Responsibilities

  • Assemble pretreatment and chemical feed equipment based on drawings and instructions provided by the Engineering Department.
  • Interconnect pretreatment and chemical feed systems using SCH 80 PVC, galvanized, and stainless steel pipes.
  • Connect electrical control systems using basic wiring techniques.
  • Program microprocessor-based pretreatment and chemical feed equipment.
  • Breakdown assembled equipment and package for shipment.
  • Work closely with other Techs to assemble pretreatment and chemical feed systems.
  • Loading/unloading tractor trailers
  • Packing equipment
  • Complete special projects set forth by Engineering Manager and Manufacturing Supervisor.

Qualifications

TECHNICAL

  • High School Diploma or some college related to the field
  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have ability to fit PVC and steel pipe.
  • Must have proficient use of power and hand tools.
  • Must have ability to read a tape measure.
  • Must have ability to read mechanical working drawings.
  • Must have ability to operate forklift.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical circuits and how to operate a multi-meter a plus

PHYSICAL

  • Must have physical strength and ability to lift up to 40 pounds and carry such a weight for 100 feet.
  • Must have good visual ability for close-up observations and use of analytical and control equipment
  • Must have good depth perception and ability to distinguish different colors.
  • Must have hearing sufficient to hear verbal and audible signals at a moderate distance.
  • Must be conditioned to sustain work in a manufacturing environment that ranges in temperature from 55oF - 100oF.

OTHER

  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must have reading ability sufficient to read technical manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, codes, and other technical materials.

**MISSION / SUMMARY:**
The Paper Machine Supervisor provides supervision and direction to 11 - 15 employees as well as planning and controlling production performance as measured by key performance indicators. In addition, they ensure compliance to established safety rules/policies, customer quality and production specifications. Actively leads and participates in the plant safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement efforts. Works with employees to develop the necessary skills to perform job tasks as outlined in the work instructions.
**JOB FUNCTIONS:** _Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:_
+ Provides daily communication to the shift, directs the day-to-day activities of the shift and responsible for the resolution of shift issues.
+ Ensures all schedules and releases are met.
+ Responsible for performance management of individuals for unacceptable performance relating to safety, attendance, training, quality, productivity, and/or inappropriate behavior to include disciplinary action if required.
+ Prepares and distributes shift report daily.
+ Performs daily audits to ensure that safety, housekeeping, basic care rounds, and established job standards are followed. Uses audit findings and reviews countermeasure sheets to upgrade standard work or install new systems to prevent problems from reoccurring.
+ Serves as a liaison to communicate identified problems to support team as well as problem status feedback to the crews.
+ Supports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement.
+ Accountable for overall shift performance in accordance to established key performance indicators (KPI's) to include safety, environment, overtime, housekeeping, quality, cull, and production efficiency. Takes necessary actions to ensure goals are achieved in a team environment by leading or promoting problem solving and development of countermeasures with or by crew members.
+ Completes all shift accident investigations within 24-hour period. Ensures corrective action is taken to address issue.
+ Manages individual job assignments and crew member training plans with assistance from other departmental personnel.
+ Mentor and coach and help develop technical mastery of operations personnel on paper machine fundamentals, skill development, and all aspects of paper machine department.
+ Foster employee engagement initiatives.
+ Encourage a behavior-based crew lead safety process.
+ Liaison with other department managers to optimize mill production.
+ Partner with technical training department to ensure the training program for operators is current and appropriate training goals are on target.
+ Promote ISO standards throughout department.
+ Administer and implement Labor relations (CBA) through consultation with the Human Resource.
+ Provide leadership with the implementation of problem-solving strategies and execution of key performance objectives in the department.
+ Sponsor employee ownership with operators to assure continuity in reaching common production goals.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:**
- Five to seven years of previous Paper Machine Supervisory Experience preferred.
- Good people skills and ability to influence people
- Good Organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- SAP experience is a plus.
**EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:**

**JOB FUNCTION:** _Job functions include, but are not limited to the following._
The E & I Supervisor directly supervises hourly employees and must possess the ability to manage by key performance indicators. This role actively leads and participates in plant safety, housekeeping, 5S, and lean manufacturing programs, ensuring that departmental goals are met.
+ Coordinate with E&I Planners to ensure that all PMs are scheduled and completed.
+ Attend Maintenance Planning and Coordination meetings to help prioritize scheduled work and efficiently handle "break-in" work as necessary.
+ Prioritize work to be performed by E&I Technicians and consult with Planner or Reliability Engineer on work to be contracted.
+ Work with the Reliability Group to ensure that Preventive Maintenance programs or Permanent Electrical equipment modifications are put in place to address the "Root Causes" of downtime and quality issues.
+ Ensure safety best practices and policies are followed.
+ Schedule work assignments and vacations, and address other personnel issues for E&I Department maintenance personnel.
+ Assist in the development and execution of the "Outage" strategy and plan.
+ Collaborate with Production Operators to understand operational issues as well as process and equipment opportunities.
+ Teach technical fundamentals to E&I Technicians and operations personnel when appropriate.
+ Monitors and participates in operations in assigned areas, including inspecting projects and developing and implementing modifications and improvements.
+ Maintains effective working relationships and works in cooperation with the management team to effectively meet departmental objectives.
+ Provides input into the development of the operating budget for the assigned area of responsibility; orders materials and supplies; assists in the monitoring and tracking of expenditures.
+ Respond to emergencies as requested; coordinate activities with others; direct the work and utilization of resources to effect repair.
+ Prepares records related to the work performed and materials and supplies used.
