Follow good manufacturing practices (GMP): line clearance, work instructions, documentation, etc. Work closely with engineering to develop new process parameters, tooling, and methods for manufacturing Work with engineers to streamline process to meet manufacturing build time, cost, and yield targets Work with engineers to generate clear and concise work instructions, test methods, and visual standards Work with and train other skilled technicians/operators in the manufacturing techniques, inspection methods, and required documentation Communicate issues to engineering for collaborative continuous improvement Be willing to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and have ability to modify work shift as needed by business conditions Perform other duties as cation, Experience and Requirements Two-years related manufacturing experience Prior Filmcast and braiding experience is preferred Able to troubleshoot moderately complex process, equipment, and tooling issues. POSITION PURPOSE

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for sustaining and improving the Dayton facility’s manufacturing performance by providing technical leadership to enable the plant to optimize capacity and capabilities of key processes and equipment. This includes reducing machine downtime and unscheduled maintenance through improved equipment reliability and managing an effective preventative maintenance program. This role is responsible for capital project execution and business continuity as it relates to site facilities, equipment, and utilities.

This position is a hybrid of technical and managerial work, requiring execution of strategic technical projects and supporting the daily needs of the plants to include Safety, Quality, Flow and Delivery improvement initiatives. Areas of managerial responsibilities include but are not limited to the application of Lean practices, product launches and improvements, process development, process control strategies, safety and environmental issue resolution, project management and Operational Technology deployment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure plant readiness to launch new products and enhancements.
  • Leads implementation of new technology and/or equipment in the Factory, tracking completion against the plan, preparing SOPs, and delivering training.
  • Lead site related FMEA and Site Acceptance Testing activities.
  • Optimize processes by effectively driving OEE consistency and improvements.
  • Lead the plant in the facilitation of cost improvements plans.
  • Responsible for Capital Asset and Expenditure Management.
  • Manages building repairs, improvements and alterations; oversees construction projects and continuous maintenance of equipment.
  • Leads all aspects of facility maintenance; arranges for the procurement of contractors to conduct these or other specific maintenance and repair assignments where applicable.
  • Develops and maintains operating budget and capital spending plan.
  • Monitors achievement of performance goals and objectives.
  • Ensures employee conformance to established best practices and proper training of staff.
  • Collaborates with other departments toward resolution of plant and production issues.
  • Develop plans for efficient use of materials and equipment.
  • Develops ongoing performance management and feedback systems.
  • Manages the identification, initiation, and completion of profit improvement projects, outlining successful outcomes with recommendations to leadership and innovation teams on process improvements.
  • Participates with the Global Manufacturing Engineering Team in benchmarking, researching, evaluating and the specification of new technology and/or equipment for process improvement projects.
  • Participates in regional and cross-functional analysis of Safety, Quality, Capability, Capacity, and financial impact of new technology / equipment / process on Plant Operations developing and implementing strategies and execution plans to integrate the technology into the Factory.
  • Provides feedback to Marketing and Engineering departments on product redesign or new product development projects.
  • Works in the plant environment to manage the addition of new products to existing assembly lines or to set up new assembly lines for products.
  • Audits existing processes for conformance to standards.
  • Participates in the Daily Tier communication process prioritizing the Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities Team to provide tactical support while balancing strategic projects.
  • Builds a strong team of engineers and technicians through leadership, example setting, experiences, training, mentorship and coaching to team members.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will report to the Dayton Plant Manager. The position will have salaried and hourly direct reports.  The role will collaborate with both the Site Leadership Team and BAC’s Americas Manufacturing Engineering Team. The position will be based in Dayton, TN but may be expected to travel to other BAC facilities and headquarters offices periodically, with up to twenty percent travel.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum five years of leadership and management experience with multiple direct reports.
  • Minimum five years of project management experience, inclusive of budgeting, scheduling, critical path, and task / timeline management.
  • Minimum five years of demonstrated equipment reliability and facilities experience.
  • Experience with lean and continuous improvement process philosophy.
  • Experience with industrial equipment and related performance measurements such as OEE.
  • Preferred technical knowledge / experience in welding, robotics / PLC, sheet metal fabrication, metal machining, mechanical assembly, product testing.
  • Demonstrated cross functional business acumen.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of business systems / ERP, preferably SAGE or SAP.
  • Excellent history of process improvement.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced dynamic organization.

POSITION PURPOSE

A shop hourly position with the primary responsibilities of assembling a wide variety of mechanical units at workstations from engineered drawings and blueprints using standard work for assembly. As an experienced mechanic, the Mechanic II has a high level of proficiency in assembling a wide variety of mechanical units and is competent to work independently in the majority of functions. The Mechanic II model's BAC's values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation to co-workers and provide training to junior mechanics as assigned. The purpose for every position at BAC regardless of department or level can be summed up as doing the right thing in the right way.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Accurately assemble BAC product in accordance with engineered drawings and standard work instructions.
  • Owns personal and team safety. Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Utilize standard work to assemble mechanical support assemblies to specification.
  • Perform functions in a majority of assembly line stations, with the exception of welding and work centers
  • Operate equipment in a manner that maximizes productivity and quality.
  • Safely operate JIB cranes to lift, move, and position components.
  • Help assist and train junior mechanics.
  • Continuously grow skills and expertise in order to flex to the maximum number of workstations
  • Meet or exceed production goals for shift.
  • Knowledgeable of and meets quality standards on a consistent basis.
  • Committed to achieving departmental safety goals.
  • Maintains and sustain 5's in the department.
  • Fulfill the role of MI senior mechanic in his or her absence

NATURE & SCOPE

Reports to Team Leader, Station Leader or senior mechanic as assigned. Work is primarily related to home department but may be flexed to other departments as order demand dictates. May be assigned the training and mentoring of junior mechanics.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Demonstrated competent writing skills including the ability to document a process in a logical and coherent manner. Ability to communicate to supervisors and co-workers with written memos or email that are professional, concise and clearly understood.
  • Working command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally with BAC customer and co-workers. The ability to share information verbally that is clearly understood and technically accurate
  • Demonstrated intermediate level knowledge of the plant IPI process and CAP program.
  • Competent in math including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional computations, and fraction to decimal conversions.
  • Good overall knowledge of the variety of BAC products.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate JIB cranes; achieved through required certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and shop paperwork.
  • Demonstrated competence in locating and following BAC shop paperwork.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on knock downs, packing and crating procedures.
  • Able to flex to other assembly lines with minimal training and supervision.
  • Understanding of elementary and intermediate LEAN principles including 5S, Kanban, one piece flow, and basic continuous improvement techniques.
  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and standard work instructions for their area.
  • Demonstrated competence in BAC quality procedures and processes to follow when a quality issue is identified
  • Computer skills include competence in locating relevant instructions and forms on the LAN or other databases

  • Ability to use hand held measuring tools including tape measure, micrometer, and protractor.
  • A minimum of one year experience in the department is preferred
  • Knowledge of unit specifications as it relates to motors, plumbing and electrical work of units.
  • Know how to interpret customer changes and record a shortage.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate overhead and JIB cranes; achieved through required certification.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and ability to support root cause analysis for identified quality issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of all hazards related to cranes, fixtures and related safety sensitive areas of the department and plant.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety standards.
  • Computer competency with MS Excel including updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to work at multiple department work stations and adapt to change.
