Scope: Set-up and operate precision CNC machining equipment to produce ball bearing components.

This is a 2nd shift position, with regular hours of 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Position Summary

Timken is looking for a skilled Machine Operator to set up, maintain, and operate production machinery. You'll ensure high productivity while meeting exacting safety and quality requirements. If you have a strong attention to detail and passion for ensuring quality output, we invite you to apply.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Setup and Operations - Set-up and operate production equipment including CNC lathes, honers, and bore grinders.

  • Gauging - Basic measurement of bearing geometry using state-of-the-art computer controlled gauging equipment as well as digital calipers, micrometers, metallurgical techniques, and dial indicators.

  • Quality through Process Control - Use process control techniques such as SPC, Histograms, Pareto analysis, etc. to understand and make adjustments to the manufacturing process. Emphasis placed on recognition, diagnosis and correction of out-of-control conditions. Will make quality checks to include concentricity, roundness, barreling, and eccentricity. Tolerancing up to and including . . Problem solve to achieve above tolerancing and quality.

  • Zone Control - sound ANDON to signal abnormal condition or problem. Problem solve to correct issue.

  • Maintenance - Monitor, clean, and inspect equipment to prevent problems before they occur, tied with routine maintenance of equipment and troubleshooting problems of minor to moderate complexity. Perform operator level Preventive Maintenance.

  • Material Handling - Move work in process to adjacent operations. Complete affiliated administrative flow requirements as needed.

  • Customer Focus - Achieve a clear understanding of the customer's (internal and external) technical requirements for each order. Responsible for assuring conformance to these requirements.

  • Team Participation - Collaborate with a variety of plant teams focused on continuous improvement. Occasionally serve as facilitator of such teams. Regularly rotate to other machines and assist team members in meeting Team Metrics.

  • Training - Continuously develop and upgrade training materials used to train other technicians, and occasionally assist in training.

  • Safety - Requires daily participation and involvement in individual and team safety responsibilities such as Behavior Based Safety, daily housekeeping, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and adherence to all safety requirements and policies.

  • Continuous Improvement - Generate and implement ideas for quality improvements and cost savings.

Basic Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Machine Operator or similar role in a manufacturing environment.

  • Technical skills in machine operation and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.

  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail and quality-focused mindset.

  • High school diploma or GED.

+ Develop, prepare, and maintain plating manufacturing process routings and process sheets.
+ Under general direction creates the design and implementation of plating racks, masking, fixtures, and tools to support processes.
+ Develop and implement manufacturing engineering procedures.
+ Implement and maintain work labor standards records, including engineering and estimation of run times for plating manufacturing processes.
+ Implementing continuous improvement of processes to provide most economical means of production.
+ Interpret customer specification changes and implement changes.
+ Provides technical support for plant layout, purchase of equipment, upgrade of equipment, and feasibility studies.
+ Comply with all the applicable Environmental and Safety regulations.
+ Comply with all internal, customer and Nadcap accreditation requirement.
+ Assist in support Nadcap accreditation audits.
+ Ability to understand and perform all chemical testing laboratory procedures.
+ Performs other assignments as directed by supervisor.
**What You Bring:**
+ Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing Engineering preferred, or technically related field experience considered.
+ Must be a US Citizen.
+ Experience with following special processes: Cadmium plating, Cadmium-Titanium plating, Chromium plating, Nickel plating, Zinc-Nickel, Passivation, Anodize and Chem Film application.
+ Hands-on application of organic coatings.
+ ACAS, Aerospace Coatings Application Specialist Certification preferred.
+ CEF, Certified Electro Plating Finisher and CAF, Certified Aerospace Finisher certification from the AESF preferred.
+ Proficiency in Truechem software applications
+ Proficiency in computer aided design applications
+ Knowledge of process verification and troubleshooting methods.
+ Ability to interpret chemical processing specifications and drawings.
+ Aerospace special processing background preferred.

**Job Responsibilities**
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of manufacturing, process, and manufacturing engineers.
- Drive process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, and cost reduction.
- Manage capital projects from concept through execution, including equipment installation, layout optimization, and vendor coordination.
- Supportnew product launches and ensure manufacturing readiness through DFM, trials, and SOP development.
- Collaborate with maintenance, quality, SCM, and operations to solve complex technical challenges.
- Oversee engineering change processes, documentation updates, and standard work implementation.
- Ensure engineering compliance with regulatory, environmental, and customer requirements.
- Provide technical leadership in root cause analysis (RCA), PFMEA, control plans, and corrective actions.
- Track key KPIs such as OEE, scrap, downtime, and productivity - and lead actions to improve them.
- Maintain a strong focus on employee development, mentoring, and succession planning.
**Background & Skills**
Qualifications
Required (basic) qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field)
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement principles
- Proven project management and cross-functional leadership skills
- Proficiency with CAD, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office tools

The student will also gain experience in fixture and tooling design, helping to evaluate and maintain jigs, tools, and equipment used in BIW assembly.The role will include supporting digital transformation initiatives within the plant, such as implementing data-driven tools and visual management systems that enhance problem-solving and decision-making. In addition, the co-op will participate in structured kaizen workshops, where they will be expected to propose and implement practical solutions that deliver measurable improvements to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
This position offers a unique opportunity for a student to apply classroom knowledge in a realworld environment while developing core skills in lean manufacturing, industrial engineering, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and proactive student currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, with strong analytical abilities, curiosity for digital tools, and a willingness to work hands-on in a fast-paced production setting.
