Refractories Quality Control Technician

Location: ON-SITE HAMMOND, INDIANA (no relocation)

Department: Quality

Reports to: Multi-Site Quality Control Manager

Job Summary:

The Refractories QC Technician is responsible for ensuring that refractory materials, products, and processes meet established quality standards in the manufacturing of refractories. This includes conducting regular inspections, testing, and analysis of materials to verify compliance with specifications, identifying areas for improvement, and assisting in the resolution of quality issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety & compliance:

• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tests and handling materials.
• Ensure that all quality control activities comply with environmental and health standards.

Materials Testing & Inspection:

• Perform physical and chemical testing of refractory materials (e.g., bricks, mortars, castables) to ensure conformity with internal and external specifications.
• Conduct tests such as compressive strength, porosity and density.
• Inspect refractory products during various stages of production to ensure quality standards are met.

Data Collection & Reporting:

• Record and document test results, inspection findings, and quality control reports.
• Maintain accurate logs of test results for certification or audits.
• Provide regular updates to the QC Manager and production teams on material quality and performance.

Nonconformance Management:

• Identify any deviations from quality standards and report non-conformances to the appropriate departments.
• Assist in investigating root causes of quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Support the implementation of corrective actions and follow up on effectiveness.

Equipment Calibration & Maintenance:

• Ensure calibration of testing equipment is performed regularly and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of testing equipment when necessary.

Collaboration:

• Work closely with the production and procurement teams to communicate material quality issues and improve overall processes.
• Assist in training production staff on quality standards and best practices for refractory materials.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Familiarity with laboratory testing procedures and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in materials or processes.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to handle and safety use testing equipment and tools.

**Primary Responsibilities:**

Job Title: MQA Associate
Job Description:
We are seeking an MQA Quality Associate to join our team on the 2nd shift. This role involves assisting with AQL testing, batch record review/release, CAPAs/investigations, and line clearances, ensuring proper calibration of equipment, cleanliness, and accountability of raw materials.
Responsibilities:
+ Pull AQL samples during packaging of finished products according to sampling instructions.
+ Perform AQL testing by verifying appearance, weight, dimensions of pouch and strip, presence of print on strip and pouch, and seal integrity for each sample.
+ Record results from each AQL test performed.
+ Communicate AQL alert, action, or failure limits to the Quality Assurance and Operation Supervisor.
+ Segregate impacted population criteria based on AQL testing results and communicate criteria to Operations Supervisor and packaging operators.
+ Perform stability sampling, finished product sampling, micro and in-process sampling, and bring samples to the lab per the appropriate protocol or sampling instructions.
+ Demonstrate good understanding of AQL procedures and guidelines after training.
+ Train and perform batch record review during production operations, line clearance, control procedures, IPC testing, scale/balance verification, and other production support duties.
+ Monitor all operations related to manufacturing to ensure adherence to AQST policies and procedures.
+ Conduct routine internal audits and facility walkthroughs to ensure compliance with internal quality system requirements.
+ Initiate and investigate nonconformances, managing projects to resolve quality issues.
+ Author and review Forms, Batch Records, WI, SOPs, and Protocols in electronic document management system.
+ Investigate assigned product quality complaints utilizing knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes.
+ Own CAPA records and action item implementation, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and effective.
+ Coordinate the Environmental Monitoring program, including third-party water testing, sampling, and report generation.
+ Manage short to medium-term quality projects to improve efficiency or compliance profile.
+ Understand the manufacturing schedule and provide quality support for business continuity and seamless transitions.
+ Perform real-time review of operational records, including Batch Records, and assist in obtaining required corrections.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $29.00/hr.
