  • Responsible for designing control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and supervisory control and data acquisition.

ENGINEER III – Manufacturing, concentration on Electrical Controls

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ENGINEER III – Manufacturing, concentration on Electrical Controls 

  • Responsible for designing control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and supervisory control and data acquisition.
  • Conduct functional tests, troubleshooting issues, and document results to ensure that control systems operate correctly and efficiently.
  • Ensure systems meet specific requirements and industry standards.
  • Manage the upgrade, rebuild, installation and start-up of process equipment.
  • Provides leadership in the development of new equipment specifications.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution equipment up to 13.8 kV.
  • Experience with PLCs including safety and material tracking.
  • Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution System) interfaces.
  • VFD (Variable frequency Drive) programming and commissioning experience
  • Analyze key process measures and determine major issues and their root causes.
  • Identify equipment safety issues and implement solutions.
  • In addition, provide technical assistance and an interface function on process, product, and maintenance problems.
  • Manage outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for assigned projects.
  • Work within and develop the appropriate standards, specifications, and procedures, including but not limited to those required for production, technical, safety, and environmental activities.
  • Define equipment engineered rates.
  • Review new process equipment and make recommendations for purchase/installation.
  • Manage the implementation of moderate-sized capital projects.
  • Responsible for parts and supply development and reverse engineering.
  • Understands opportunities for OEE improvements and leads OEE improvement initiatives.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE ENGINEER III – Manufacturing, concentration on Electrical Controls 

  • Four-year college degree in an Engineering discipline preferred. Two Year college degree and/or five years’ engineering support experience required.
  • Five or more years of experience in an engineering support position.
  • Effectively manages small projects or sub-teams, including coordination of resources outside of their own area.
  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements for small projects or sub-teams.
  • Monitors and controls costs within own work and may manage costs for small projects or areas.
  • Knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques.
  • Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests.
  • Works independently to address a range of standard and non-standard situations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions, to perform assignments with general direction, and to operate a computer workstation and the appropriate software/hardware.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment, to train and develop others, and to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. 
  • Willing to work in a fast- paced, ever-changing work environment.

Operating on a 4x10 schedule (Monday–Thursday, 6:30 AM–5:00 PM), the position may occasionally require support on Fridays or weekends during production recovery periods. Responsibilities include developing and optimizing manufacturing methods, troubleshooting equipment issues, supporting quality initiatives, and leading new product launches. The engineer will also estimate costs, standardize processes, and manage capital projects.


Must have requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 2 years of product manufacturing experience
