The manufacturing engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
· Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training
· Improves manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency
· Prepares and presents plans for the above and coordinate deployment including training of team members
· Assists Operations in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and training
· Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment
· Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
· Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
· Designs, develops, and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
· Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency
· Assist in the day-to-day resolution of problems arising on the production floor
· Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams
**Requirements**
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
* Knowledge of manufacturing, quality, tooling, tool design, preventative maintenance and engineering processes/methods.
* Knowledge of standard lean tools and concepts (5S, value stream mapping, flow, standard work).
* Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
* Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
* Ability to prioritize multiple projects
* Microsoft suite, Solidworks (or equivalent), Autocad (or equivalent)
**Other Skills/Abilities**
* ASME Certified Manufacturing Engineer
* AWS Certified Weld Inspector
* Lean master facilitator certificate
* Prior experience with advanced quality processes and tools (PPAP, FMEA, etc).
* Six Sigma Green or Black belt certified

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing manufacturing processes during off shifts.
This position involves collaboration with manufacturing and production support leaders to enhance production floor performance. The role requires a proactive approach to planning, scheduling, setup, and execution of manufacturing activities while ensuring the efficient distribution of materials and adherence to labor and material requirements.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with experience in an automotive manufacturing environment, and should be comfortable with hands-on work, spending approximately 70%-80% of their time on the floor.
Responsibilities
+ Maintain manufacturing production processes by monitoring progress and expediting material flow and work results, resolving problems.
+ Improve manufacturing process workflow by eliminating stoppages, analyzing delays, and testing new methods.
+ Record manufacturing production by completing daily shift reports and calculating yields and recoveries.
+ Maintain process flow by communicating production status, requirements, and problems to the next shift.
+ Ensure compliance with union terms by adhering to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Work Environment
This position involves working on the floor 70%-80% of the time, providing support for production, root cause analysis, and product disassembly.
The role is part of a larger team of 35 individuals, with three other engineers.
Work typically involves 45 hours per week, with a possibility of extending to 50 hours during peak times.
Open positions are on off-shifts which are: 2nd shift from 2pm-10pm, and 3rd shift from 10pm-6am, with potential for starting 30 minutes early or staying 30 minutes late for handoff.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $40.87/hr.

+ Implement new and/or current manufacturing methods into manufacturing
+ Monitor production to determine areas of improvement and react to unforeseen production/manufacturing issues
+ Provide technical training to plant personnel including engineering, equipment operators, electricians, instrument technicians and maintenance
+ Create and execute validation activities according to plant/division policy
**Design Engineering:**
+ Complete design of process systems, incorporating best available technologies while adhering to Abbott policies, regulatory requirements, GMP standards, Abbott Engineering Standards and Environmental Health/Safety regulations
+ Create equipment/process specifications, drawings, and procedures, as required, and ensure that existing documentation is accurate and appropriate
+ Research, recommend, implement, and qualify replacement parts for discontinued/obsolete components and equipment
**Cost Reduction/Productivity Improvement:**
+ Identify and implement cost reduction and productivity improvement projects within Abbott Nutrition
+ Areas of focus include process improvements, new manufacturing processes and new technologies
**EHS:**
+ Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for Environmental Health and Safety performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott's EHS program
