Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Manufacturing Coordinator Purpose of Position:
-
To assist the production Team Leader in daily communication, to coordinate production schedules, assignments and direction of production personnel to expedite the flow of product through the plant in the most efficient manner.

Be the front-line leadership of the area/department by coaching and assisting floor personnel to resolve daily issues while always observing personnel behaviors and reporting all code of conduct violations to a supervisor immediately.
Major Responsibilities /Ongoing Tasks:
A. Review production needs and schedule objectives with Team Leader, communicating them to plant floor personnel through oral or written communication. Conduct thorough shift handoffs and maintain shift handoff log daily.
B. Identify and isolate the source of problems whenever possible, taking corrective action with the direction of the production supervisor. Maintain close interface with cable support groups.
C. Always monitor quality of product being produced. Escalate recurring issues to a supervisor, MET and Engineering. Document issues, resolutions or deviations in the shift handoff.
D. Ensure and validate product is flowing through the process in the correct order/sequence to maintain on-time schedule performance. Coach floor personnel on run sequence and report any violations of the run sequence to a supervisor.
E. Monitors skill levels of personnel suggest training classes/certifications and ensures operators have adequate skills to perform their responsibilities. Any gaps in training or certification outside of the normal training plan must be communicated to the Team Leader. An example is having a certified operator who is unable to complete task in a safe or efficient manner resulting in potential hazards or inefficiencies.
F. In the absence of the supervisor and with the assistance of available Manufacturing, resources are responsible for coordinating and directing the cable production operation including normal production supervisor responsibilities excluding disciplinary action or reprimands. If disciplinary actions or other major problem conditions arise, the supervisor or other designated management representative is to be contacted immediately.
G. Maintains safety and good housekeeping by being directly responsible for performing work in a safe manner and maintaining a safe work environment. Is responsible for his/her safety as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting. Is responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive for reporting any unsafe conditions.
H. Performs as assigned or as outlined in Production Coordinator Expectations. Recognizes team work and high performance in the department, communicates to supervisor.
I. Maintain success as measured by shift goal numbers. Report excessive downtime to a Supervisor within 30 minutes of the line/equipment being down beyond the scheduled/allotted time. Highlight and communicate personnel gaps and overages to a Supervisor and team PCs.
J. Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings required by plant management, including the daily PC/TL meeting.

**What you'll do.**
In this key role, you will provide manufacturing engineering leadership throughout a new model development program - from initial concept through final assembly. This will involve the application of lean manufacturing principles to ensure the highest quality, most efficient processes and products possible. You will:
+ Provide manufacturing engineering leadership throughout a new model development program, beginning at initial concept through launch at the final assembly facility.
+ Development of tooling and facilities based on product and process.
+ Apply lean manufacturing principles.
+ Lead virtual manufacturing assembly builds.
+ Drive resolution of manufacturing issues.
+ Interface with Design and Release activities.
+ Develop formal assembly process instructions and enter the process sheets into VPS system.
+ Lead assembly tooling specification purchase, installation, start-up, and commissioning at the assembly site.
+ Track all open tooling and process issues and drive to closure including meeting all exit criteria deliverables - cycle time, throughput, workstation readiness, etc.
+ Prepare management presentations.
+ Drive quality, cost and labor improvements.
+ Support new model launches. During launches, the position will require extensive travel, standing, and walking in a plant environment.
+ Deliver dimensionally in-spec parts for their respective system. Understand component data and a system impact.
+ Deliver cycle line layouts and work with the assembly plants to have a complete operator/equipment workstation ready for launch.
+ Operate in stressful situations within timing constraints
+ Work with minimal direct supervision
**You'll have.**
+ Bachelor's degree in mechanical or an equivalent manufacturing engineering
+ Willingness to travel and support launch activities at our North American Assembly plants (USA, Canada & Mexico)
+ Travel is required including co-location at a North American Assembly plant for 9 or more months depending on scale of vehicle launch.
+ 1 or more years of Microsoft Office experience to include Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
+ Up to 40-50% travel required

Responsible for leading and managing a group of front-line supervisors and hourly associates. This role will have direct responsibility for safety, quality, cost, delivery, and team morale. + Maintain the department staffing model (address critical gaps in staffing, anticipate changes in staffing based on capacity additions, and drive labor efficiency improvements through cross-training efforts).
+ Partner with planning and scheduling resources to ensure proper execution of the production plan provided for the week and for the month. This collaboration drives department OTM (on time to manufacture) and customer facing OTP (on time to promise) metrics. Be able to manage large product/process changeovers, equipment upgrades, experiments with engineering, and required maintenance activities.
+ Support operational readiness activities for major equipment upgrades and department specific new product introductions. Champion change while continuing to meet production targets.
+ Identify and understand critical bottleneck processes within the operation (partner with the lean organization to drive operational improvements, specific to availability gains in OEE through setup time reduction and unplanned downtime).
+ Provide leadership and direct supervision to both direct reports and indirect manufacturing teams. Hold the team accountable to clear metrics centered around improving safety and quality performance through individual and department scorecards.
+ Deploy Corning's talent management programs within the department to effectively attract, develop, and maintain manufacturing talent, ensure that all salaried employees have training and development plans.
**Required Education and Experience**
