Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position: To assist the production Team Leader in daily communication, to coordinate productionschedules, assignments and direction of production personnel to expedite the flow of product through the plantin the most efficient manner. Be the front-line leadership of the area/department by coaching and assistingfloor personnel to resolve daily issues while always observing personnel behaviors and reporting all code ofconduct violations to a supervisor immediately.

Major Responsibilities /Ongoing Tasks:

  • Review production needs and schedule objectives with Team Leader, communicating them to plant floorpersonnel through oral or written communication.

  • Conduct thorough shift handoffs and maintain shift handoff log daily.

  • Identify and isolate the source of problems whenever possible, taking corrective action with the direction ofthe production supervisor.

  • Maintain close interface with cable support groups.

  • Always monitor quality of product being produced.

  • Escalate recurring issues to a supervisor, MET and Engineering.

  • Document issues, resolutions or deviations in the shift handoff.

  • Ensure and validate product is flowing through the process in the correct order/sequence to maintain ontime schedule performance.

  • Coach floor personnel on run sequence and report any violations of the run sequence to a supervisor.

  • Monitors skill levels of personnel suggest training classes/certifications and ensures operators haveadequate skills to perform their responsibilities.

  • Any gaps in training or certification outside of the normal training plan must be communicated to the TeamLeader. An example is having a certified operator who is unable to complete task in a safe or efficientmanner resulting in potential hazards or inefficiencies.

  • In the absence of the supervisor and with the assistance of available Manufacturing, resources areresponsible for coordinating and directing the cable production operation including normal productionsupervisor responsibilities excluding disciplinary action or reprimands. If disciplinary actions or other majorproblem conditions arise, the supervisor or other designated management representative is to be contactedimmediately.

  • Maintains safety and good housekeeping by being directly responsible for performing work in a safe mannerand maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Is responsible for his/her safety as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working orvisiting.

  • Is responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive for reporting any unsafe conditions.

  • Performs as assigned or as outlined in Production Coordinator Expectations.

  • Recognizes team work and high performance in the department, communicates to supervisor.

  • Maintain success as measured by shift goal numbers.

  • Report excessive downtime to a Supervisor within 30 minutes of the line/equipment being down beyond thescheduled/allotted time.

  • Highlight and communicate personnel gaps and overages to a Supervisor and team PCs.

  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings required by plant management, including the daily PC/TLmeeting.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to direct cable production processes in accordance with SOP’s and M.I.’s. Ability tocommunicate to production personnel, the processes and procedures necessary to ensure the product andthe quality of fiber optic cable.

  • Knowledge of cable processing, manufacturing equipment and raw materials used throughout plant, morespecifically in Ribbon.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Demonstrated motivation and initiative.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Certified and experienced Manufacturing Associate.

**Purpose of New Position:**

+ Associates should proactively report any equipment issues as soon as they become aware.

The Manufacturing Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, components, and equipment necessary for the manufacturing process. This role is critical in maintaining a consistent supply of high-quality materials at competitive prices, managing overall costs, and fostering strong relationships with suppliers to support efficient production operations.



Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for raw materials, components, and equipment to support manufacturing needs.
  • Research and identify qualified suppliers based on criteria such as quality, cost, reliability, and delivery capabilities.
  • Issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure the best deals.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals and select the optimal supplier based on pre-determined factors like cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Issue purchase orders and manage vendor contracts to ensure compliance and reliability.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including tracking quality, delivery times, and pricing to ensure consistent supply chain performance.
  • Track inventory levels and proactively manage stockouts to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
  • Identify and pursue cost-saving opportunities through negotiations and value analysis with suppliers.
  • Stay informed on market trends and fluctuations in material costs to adapt sourcing strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production planning, and quality control departments to ensure materials meet specifications and production goals.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation to ensure compliance and support audits or reviews.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing procurement or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of sourcing strategies, negotiation techniques, and contract management processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and implement effective purchasing solutions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills to build relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (preferred).
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and procedures (a plus) to ensure materials meet production standards.

Essental Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the safe operation of production equipment to produce quality products by continual adjustments of gauges that control speed, temperature, and pressure. Perform product labeling, packing, wrapping and helping to supply line for production. Assists with all required quality inspections, testing, and documentation. Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
**Role Purpose**
**By applying to this role, you agree that you are available to be a Section Supervisor at either the Hickory, NC, Newton, NC or Trivium, NC Site as selected by the hiring team.
Responsible for leading and managing a group of front-line supervisors and hourly associates. This role will have direct responsibility for safety, quality, cost, delivery, and team morale. This position includes both direct and indirect reports along with cross-functional partnership with engineering and maintenance.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Drive results through manufacturing performance and deliver daily, weekly, and monthly production metrics (must be able to quickly identify bottlenecks, work through changes in staffing, and manage/maintain proper queue levels for efficient operations).
+ Manage and control department overtime and understand associated spend (use overtime as a lever where needed, while also understanding the trigger point to hire in order to effectively balance cost).
+ Maintain the department staffing model (address critical gaps in staffing, anticipate changes in staffing based on capacity additions, and drive labor efficiency improvements through cross-training efforts).
+ Partner with planning and scheduling resources to ensure proper execution of the production plan provided for the week and for the month. This collaboration drives department OTM (on time to manufacture) and customer facing OTP (on time to promise) metrics. Be able to manage large product/process changeovers, equipment upgrades, experiments with engineering, and required maintenance activities.
+ Support operational readiness activities for major equipment upgrades and department specific new product introductions. Champion change while continuing to meet production targets.
+ Identify and understand critical bottleneck processes within the operation (partner with the lean organization to drive operational improvements, specific to availability gains in OEE through setup time reduction and unplanned downtime).
+ Provide leadership and direct supervision to both direct reports and indirect manufacturing teams. Hold the team accountable to clear metrics centered around improving safety and quality performance through individual and department scorecards.
+ Deploy Corning's talent management programs within the department to effectively attract, develop, and maintain manufacturing talent, ensure that all salaried employees have training and development plans.
**Required Education and Experience**
+ Bachelor of Science (technical or business degree preferred).
+ Minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing with proven track record of leadership progression.
+ Highly motivated, results-oriented, and with a high commitment level to the business and department.
+ Energetic, effective under pressure, and can respond positively to constructive feedback.
+ Direct people management experience (for both salaried and non-exempt employees) with demonstrated leadership skills of conflict resolution, coaching, active listening, and employee effectiveness.

+ MBA or advanced technical graduate degree.

Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. **Summary:**
Manufacturing is a pillar within Meta's Delivery Team supporting data center construction. We exist to support the predictable delivery of capacity at scale through manufactured solutions.The Manufacturing Team's primary focus is supply chain engagement and optimization. We accept Manufacturing Informed Designed (MID) components and orchestrate their detailing and prototyping to optimum manufacturability then work with our partners in Delivery to plan logistics and integration to avoid challenges in construction.This team is comprised of strategic designers, strategic builders, tactical specialists, plus internal and external subject matter experts (SME) including preconstruction managers, contractors, schedulers, equipment reliability engineers, and sourcing specialists. This position will lead program management of all manufactured components in support of Meta's RPL project. This mega-project is of such scale that it requires a high-performing PM to drive strategic and tactical aspects of first-of-kind prototyping, logistics, and integration. Never before have we relied so heavily on offsite construction; a necessity here to deliver a project of this magnitude on an aggressive timeline. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the timely delivery of this capacity on what will be the largest project in Meta's history and one of a few of the largest data centers in the world.
**Required Skills:**
Program Manager, Manufacturing Responsibilities:
1. Program Management - Lead coordination, document, and anticipate program needs to ensure cost, schedule, and quality in concert with the mega-project construction
2. Primary Interface with the Manufacturing CAPs (Component Accountable PMs) - to coordinate on Supplier production (manufacturing execution) including configuring supply chain, production, scheduling, strategic inventory, logistics, and integration in collaboration with our delivery and quality teams
