Manufacturing Manager

This role is part of our Purina Animal Nutrition business helping our network of local cooperatives, independent dealers and other large retailers serve producers, and animal owners throughout the United States. The Manufacturing Manager will provide leadership and supervision to the production departments and oversees all manufacturing activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, inventory yields, and cost objectives. Manages process introductions, production procedures and continuous improvement efforts for multiple manufacturing areas on the third shift. Provides guidance and direction to production staff's training and development needs to maintain a competitive and competent workforce within the departments. Ensures strong documentation and communication of shift activities to other shifts and management.

Responsibilities:

EHS:

Responsible for following and enforcing company environmental, health and safety policies and associated training. Enforce work rules fairly and consistently. Provides leadership and participation in process safety related management programs. Participates in and is responsible for production related actions associated with hazard analysis and process safety reviews. Ensures that all production departments complete pre-production startup reviews and environmental, safety and health related pre-startup protocols.

Staff/Staffing:

Manage direct and temporary labor services to provide maximum throughput while minimizing costs. Ensure products are produced in accordance with plant schedule and required product specifications. Instill accountability in employees to perform at a high level. Cross train employees to facilitate flexibility and responsiveness. Maintain and update production protocols at the customer's request. Will perform necessary human resource activities such as coaching, progressive discipline and performance reviews. Cultivate and maintain healthy communications with team members.

Technical:

Understand operational and technical issues and work directly with plant management and the technical group to identify required objectives and allocate resources appropriately. Facilitate and aid upcoming equipment or system changes driven by business cost reductions, product innovations/renovations and shifts in inventory management. Responsible for the safe introduction of new processes and products into the facility.

Operations:

Provide leadership within the process areas in an effort to drive process performance and improvements to achieve maximized business profitability by increasing throughputs, improve inventory yields by reducing losses, and improving overall morale. Develop and/or approve production procedures to ensure quality products are produced in a safe and effective manner. Responsible for controlling expenses and minimizing facility repairs. Provide customer support and liaison with the customer to ensure that their needs are addressed satisfactory. Prepare and analyze various weekly and monthly reports. Ensure proper paperwork of all run sheets, batch sheets and shift reports are accurate. Responsible to maintain an accurate accounting of all shift activities. Other duties as assigned

* Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of manufacturing leadership or High School Diploma/GED and 3+ years of manufacturing leadership

Salary: $79,200 - $118,800

+ Monitors and maintains uniformity of the product being deposited into starch trays
+ Ensures against starch buildup on mold board

+ Ensures continuous proper board weight for each candy production run; documentation of board weight confirmation
+ Must respond quickly to minor malfunctions that occur with the Mogul and notify the Mechanic on duty of any problems

Manage, direct, and lead the hourly employees to meet the specific goals established for their area that corresponds to the overall company objectives. Job Requirements
* BS degree preferred or equivalent experience.
* Minimum 8 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
* Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing project management and process improvement role, or 5 years experience in a leadership role with responsibility of a team of 10 employees or more, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and Environmental regulations and employment laws.
* Experience leading in a "change environment".
* Applied knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPS, or other continuous improvement methodologies in a manufacturing environment.
* Ensure employees have the proper training, skills, and tools to work safety.
* Create and sustain a safe work environment.
* Maintain compliance with industrial workplace safety and health regulations.
* Identify improvement opportunities for safety, and either lead or recommend corrective action.
* Manage the employee safety program on an ongoing basis.
* Ensure employees have the proper training, skills, and tools to perform work which follows the documented Powell Quality System Procedures.
* Prepare workforce for ongoing Quality System Audits.
* Implement process improvements designed to improve quality system metrics, with assistance from Manufacturing Engineering.
* In cooperation with production control, manage assets and people effectively to achieve established delivery objectives.
* Meet or exceed financial objectives such as overtime allowance and variable department expenses.
* Effectively manage employee payroll system for each department.
* Ensure Powell fixed assets, such as building and equipment, are properly utilized and maintained.
* Develop and deliver effective communications with direct reports, teams, other functions, departments, and other internal and external contacts, as required.
* Lead and conduct effective meetings.
* Administer Powell policy and procedures consistently.
* Maintain accurate training records.
* Develop individuals and work teams such that they can operate effectively with minimal supervision.
* Create an environment where employees can grow and develop into greater levels of contribution.
* Develop and administer performance evaluations.
* Effectively manage performance.
* Act as a change agent; Lead and influence employees at all levels in and through the change process.
