**Manufacturing Engineer - Special Processes**
Our Shelby, NC site is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team!
This Manufacturing Engineer (Special Processes) provides technical support of surface treatment and plating operations. You will assist in gaining and maintaining aerospace surface treatment approvals and will be responsible for developing, documenting, and maintaining systems and procedures in support of the Special Processing department.

**Your Challenge:**
+ Develop, prepare, and maintain plating manufacturing process routings and process sheets.
+ Under general direction creates the design and implementation of plating racks, masking, fixtures, and tools to support processes.
+ Develop and implement manufacturing engineering procedures.
+ Implement and maintain work labor standards records, including engineering and estimation of run times for plating manufacturing processes.
+ Implementing continuous improvement of processes to provide most economical means of production.
+ Interpret customer specification changes and implement changes.
+ Provides technical support for plant layout, purchase of equipment, upgrade of equipment, and feasibility studies.
+ Comply with all the applicable Environmental and Safety regulations.
+ Comply with all internal, customer and Nadcap accreditation requirement.
+ Assist in support Nadcap accreditation audits.
+ Ability to understand and perform all chemical testing laboratory procedures.
+ Performs other assignments as directed by supervisor.
**What You Bring:**
+ Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing Engineering preferred, or technically related field experience considered.
+ Must be a US Citizen.
+ Experience with following special processes: Cadmium plating, Cadmium-Titanium plating, Chromium plating, Nickel plating, Zinc-Nickel, Passivation, Anodize and Chem Film application.
+ Hands-on application of organic coatings.
+ ACAS, Aerospace Coatings Application Specialist Certification preferred.
+ CEF, Certified Electro Plating Finisher and CAF, Certified Aerospace Finisher certification from the AESF preferred.
+ Proficiency in Truechem software applications
+ Proficiency in computer aided design applications
+ Knowledge of process verification and troubleshooting methods.
+ Ability to interpret chemical processing specifications and drawings.
+ Aerospace special processing background preferred.

Working under the general direction of the Plant Supervisor. This is a hands-on leadership role that is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the fabrication department, ensuring team performance, production efficiency, and machine uptime across multiple fabrication systems including Ermaksan fiber optic laser, Amada turret punches, and Ermaksan and Cincinnati press brakes. The position requires strong technical skills, leadership experience, and the ability to implement process improvements in a high-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise day-to-day operations in the fabrication department, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production goals.

• Schedule and assign work across shifts based on production priorities, staffing, and equipment availability.
• Maintain and update MDI visual management boards to track real-time performance metrics, WIP status, and key operational indicators.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with fiber optic lasers, Amada turret punch presses, and press brakes; program parts directly at the machine when rework is needed.
• Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives, including waste reduction, standard work improvements, and 5S practices to increase throughput and efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering to mark up and review BOMs, improve part designs, and implement revisions seamlessly.
• Coordinate with purchasing to optimize material flow, reduce excess inventory, and minimize job interruptions.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and safety training to fabrication team members.
• Monitor and track employee hours, vacation, and performance metrics to support accountability and engagement.
• Assist in special in-house fabrication projects and support the Coil Shop with necessary fabricated parts.

Position Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in metal fabrication leadership.
• Proficient with fiber optic laser cutting, Amada turret punch presses, and press brake operation.
• Strong troubleshooting and machine programming skills.
• Ability to read blueprints, BOMs, and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and WIP tracking tools.
• Excellent communication, time management, and team leadership skills.
