Job Summary:
  • We are seeking a Manufacturing Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in Electronic, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Mechanical Equipment.
  • The Manufacturing Technician will be responsible for the set-up and maintenance of all equipment used in the production processes.
  • Sign- On Bonus $1,500 for *qualified applicants.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for set-up and maintenance of all electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems on equipment used in the production process.
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance on designated production equipment as specified in the PM Program or as required to ensure a smooth operation.
  • Assists Engineering with the installation, debugging, and start-up of all production equipment.
  • Maintains equipment logs on assigned equipment, recording pertinent information about downtime and maintenance problems. Documents all process changes.
  • Supports Engineering in maintaining and adjusting vision systems within defined parameters.
  • Provide leadership to ensure all safety and environmental procedures and Quality System Requirements (QSR) are maintained.
  • Works directly with the Engineering Group to monitor and improve processes for output and waste levels.
  • Provide leadership to other associates in trouble shooting production equipment and ownership of process performance issues.
  • Coordinates and supports other maintenance activities as required.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by Supervisor or as required to support the business.
Minimum Requirement:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational/Technical School (Curriculum: See below listed classes) Or Associates Degree with a Major in Industrial Electronics or similar field (strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrate Knowledge of Electricity and Circuitry.
  • Ability to Demonstrate Basic Hydraulic Components on Hydraulic Print.
  • Basic PLC Understanding.

Becton Dickinson is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a direct-hire position located at their state-of-the-art facility in Sumter, SC located about 30 minutes northeast of Columbia, SC. BD is offering a competitive compensation package for this role including relocation for non-local candidates. BD's Sumter facility is a high-volume automated assembly and packaging operation for medical device products. This location makes many of the products used every day in hospitals, doctors offices, and other health organizations. This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor. Responsible for the implementation of project and process support activities toward attainment of departmental and plant goals. Primary focus in areas of capacity expansion, quality/waste improvement and cost improvement programs. Required to handle multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Responsible for the design and implementation of machine improvements and capital equipment project management activities. Proficient in mechanical design and troubleshooting.
+ Directs personnel in the troubleshooting and maintenance of cam driven mechanisms and pneumatic and hydraulic equipment used in the production process.
+ Supports the plant manufacturing effort, with proven ability to identify problems and pursue plans toward their resolution. Specific focus will be in areas of improving upon chronic levels of quality, waste and equipment efficiencies.
+ Has knowledge of proper Engineering practices and vendor relationships. Responsible for coordinating activities between equipment vendors, Division R & D and plant functional departments on his/her assignments.
+ Ability to handle projects of a small to moderate scope. Will be required to handle several assignments (project & process duties) simultaneously.
+ Completes or supervises the completion of necessary designs, drawings, calculations and specifications on associated equipment.
+ Establishes which elements comprising a job are suitable for in-house fabrication or revision and which items would be best contracted. Secure quotations and select contractors; direct the contractors efforts or the efforts of in-house forces to a satisfactory scheduled completion of the necessary work. Supervise and inspect all work in-process by contractors or plant forces; provide guidance where necessary.
+ Responsible for the recommendation of capital equipment or process modifications, their physical installation, debugging and associated training of production personnel.
+ As required within the scope of his/her duty, be responsible for all associated documentation, including; however not limited to, the following; validations, Operations Procedures, Preventive Maintenance schedules, Engineering Change Notifications, spare parts listings, etc.
+ Accountable for spending (capital or expense) within approved limits on programs.
+ Directs the efforts of support personnel such as machinists and technicians, etc. in the modification, adjustment, removal and installation of new or existing equipment as required.
**Requirements:**
+ Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering.
+ Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment. Preferably in the high-speed production of medical devices.
+ Experience in the following areas:
+ synchronous and asynchronous assembly platforms
+ cam-operated equipment
+ pneumatics
+ servo controlled assembly and AutoCAD.
+ Understanding of Lean Manufacturing initiatives with an emphasis in continuous improvement.
+ Six Sigma certification (greenbelt or blackbelt) preferred.

Reports directly to the department Cell Leader(s). Facilitates the safe execution of daily activities related to the manufacture of components and/or finished product in the department. + Coordinates weekly production schedules with Materials Control to assure timely issuance of work orders and materials vital to enhance operating efficiencies and service levels.
+ Analyzes work order variances and works with the materials coordinator and Cell Leader on corrective activities to resolve material variances.
+ Ensures that hourly teams strictly follow preventative maintenance standard work procedures to assure equipment is properly maintained to minimize downtime and meet FDA, EPA, and OSHA requirements. Ensures that PMs are carefully planned relative to advance preparation of needed materials and resources and drives urgency and accuracy for timely restarts.
+ Does whatever it takes to ensure his/her teams get the resources, repairs, standard work procedures, and support to win, (Servant Leadership)
+ Ensures that all direct reports provide DHR accuracy and maintains appropriate manufacturing documentation.
+ Initiates and maintains accurate records and reports of daily production, waste, associate status changes, levels of absence, disciplinary warnings, and any other records necessary for the satisfactory performance of the operation.
+ Owner of the TMS (Tiered Management System) Tier 1 and Tier 2 on their shift, drives daily problem solving, urgency, and escalates issues they cannot resolve with their own team. Prepares the T2 board in advance of the daily T2 meeting and is clearly knowledgeable about the WIN opportunities on his/her lines. Drives ownership and gains commitments on resolution from resources to ensure that problems are resolved.
+ Responsible for actively partnering and building teamwork with Process Engineers to improve line efficiency and reduce waste. Ensures that Process Engineers create and modify the standard work procedures as necessary for success. And communicates repetitive issues needing redesigns to the Process Engineers so that improvements can be made.

**Education and Experience:**

+ Set up and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on equipment used in the production process.
+ Perform preventive maintenance on designated production equipment as specified in the PM Program or as required to ensure a smooth operation
+ Assist Engineering with the installation, debugging, and start-up of all production equipment
+ Maintain equipment logs on assigned equipment, recording pertinent information about downtime and maintenance problems
+ Document all process changes
+ Mix silicone/solvent-based formulation which is used for the lubrication of needles (Sharps Department Only) Uses viscometer to ensure solids percentage remains within acceptable parameters.
+ Support Engineering in maintaining and adjusting vision systems within defined parameters
+ Provide leadership to ensure all safety and environmental procedures and Quality System Requirements (QSR) are maintained
+ Provide Production Supervisors with relevant information on equipment and process performance, to include production and waste information
+ Provide leadership to other associates in trouble-shooting production equipment
+ Coordinate and support other maintenance duties as required
+ Responsible for providing leadership and ownership of process performance issues
+ Reports directly to Production Maintenance and indirectly to Production.
**Minimum Requirement:**
+ High School Diploma/GED + a minimum of 4 years of Electronic/Industrial/Manufacturing experience or equivalent experience + education
+ A diploma, certificate, or document demonstrating completion & understanding of electrical safety fundamentals is required
+ Vocational/Technical School Curriculum required (see below listed classes) Relevant experience may be substituted for individual courses (except safety) or Associates Degree with a Major in Industrial Electronics or similar field (strongly preferred)
+ Able to work any shift schedule, including 12 hour shifts and nights
