This role will be responsible for leading the plant to deliver on objectives of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, & Morale and will serve as an extension of the Director of Operations in managing the production process to deliver on all commitments and customer satisfaction. The Manufacturing Manager will be hands on and will be required to spend majority of time on the plant floor managing the production flow and leading problem solving and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the production team in the attainment of established production standards, goals and objectives, including those associated with Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale.
- Conduct ongoing review of labor efficiencies, workflow, and productivity to identify and correct issues which are negatively impacting quality, cost, schedule attainment, order fill rate or the ability to meet customer demands. Lead schedule attainment, Forecasting, and material shortages with the appropriate departments.
- Drive efforts to maximize continuous improvement process in all areas of the plant operations with direct reports, hourly team leads, and as a member of the cross functional management team. Actively work with HR, Engineering, Material, Planning & Logistics, Finance, and IT to solve problems and improve overall Operations. Actively seek opportunities for innovation and modernization of processes to leverage future growth.
- Prioritize production schedules based on inventory needs, new product introduction, equipment efficiency, labor availability and materials supply.
- Analyze production and execute actions to improve quality, capacity constraints, back-order shortages, and equipment downtime.
- Establish performance objectives for direct reports and provide formal and informal support and counsel as needed to improve performance or generate opportunities for further growth and development
- Drive and Lead changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering or Business or equivalent in a technical discipline
- 5 - 8 years experience in manufacturing related positions, with increasing management responsibilities
- 10+ years in manufacturing or related activities, ideally in a premium brand environment.
- Experience and knowledge applying lean, team-based or participative management techniques within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal and communication skills to carry out programs directed toward fulfillment of business objectives
- Project management experience desired
- Performance driven with a strong bias for action. Proven examples of accomplishments in this space.
- Must be innovative and open to change.
- Computer literacy, i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail
- Requires independent judgment
- Ability to act as a change agent
- Problem solving and decision-making ability working with cross functional teams.

A Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for managing various production activities including but not limited to: planning, directing and monitoring production to meet established specifications, schedules, department production targets and quality standards. They understand and align plant operations & production as he/she executes their role in the overall order fulfillment process to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives. In addition to planning, prioritizing, and managing production line maintenance/downtime to minimize disruptions. This position follows a monthly rotating day to night schedule with 12 hour shifts that rotate every other weekend off.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Supervises and facilitates the day-to-day shift activities of team. Utilizes knowledge and experience, providing training to team members.
+ Responsible for their individual performance.
+ Oversees scheduling, material handling issues and maintenance, as well as resolving production problems.
+ Responsible for people management actions such as performance management, rewarding, training and developing employees.
+ Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourages and leads team members to work in a safe manner and to seek improvement in work practices.
+ Supervises entry-level, and semi-skilled hourly union employees such as production, and craft workers.
+ Ensures that product quality, production efficiency, and overall productivity meet or exceeds established standards.

MISSION / SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Excellence Manager will report to the Mill Manager. * Lead various CI projects within and across operations to optimize performance.
* Deliver significant Continuous Improvement Cost Savings through the execution of complex, Mill-wide A3 and Six Sigma projects.
* Certify within the Mill Division CI Program to enhance individual CI tools / techniques and co-train, coach and mentor internally certified CI practitioners and other improvement personnel in Lean, Six Sigma, and Rational Process Thinking Methodology.
* Work directly with Mill site leadership team and others to Guide the creation, documentation, and implementation of site focused improvement plans aligned with Division and Corporation strategy.
* Create opportunities for the mill to share and develop best practices with Lean Six Sigma. Emphasis on standard work, process confirmation to drive employee engagement, reduced voluntary turn-over and improved throughput / reduced cull.
* Build and develop improved operations, processes, and procedures to support the Mill Division's strategic direction
* Facilitate a high level of employee participation on teams and in events to foster high involvement, accountability, and results.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
* Prior manufacturing experience in the production of coated paper/board greatly preferred.
* Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.
* Knowledge in lean, quality and statistical tools preferred.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
* Four-year college degree, is recommended (ideally with engineering, business management, or operations focus) or equivalent eight years of experience

+ Deliver significant Continuous Improvement Cost Savings through the execution of complex, Mill-wide A3 and Six Sigma projects.
+ Certify within the Mill Division CI Program to enhance individual CI tools / techniques and co-train, coach and mentor internally certified CI practitioners and other improvement personnel in Lean, Six Sigma, and Rational Process Thinking Methodology.
+ Work directly with Mill site leadership team and others to Guide the creation, documentation, and implementation of site focused improvement plans aligned with Division and Corporation strategy.
+ Create opportunities for the mill to share and develop best practices with Lean Six Sigma. Emphasis on standard work, process confirmation to drive employee engagement, reduced voluntary turn-over and improved throughput / reduced cull.
+ Build and develop improved operations, processes, and procedures to support the Mill Division's strategic direction
+ Facilitate a high level of employee participation on teams and in events to foster high involvement, accountability, and results.

**BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:**
+ Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
+ Prior manufacturing experience in the production of coated paper/board greatly preferred.
+ Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.
+ Knowledge in lean, quality and statistical tools preferred.
**EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:**
+ Four-year college degree, is recommended (ideally with engineering, business management, or operations focus) or equivalent eight years of experience

**Responsibilities:**
+ Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security-related procedures, following site-specific policies, and responding to emergency situations as appropriate.
+ Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
+ Conduct regular and random patrols throughout the manufacturing and industrial location, including the business premises and perimeter, to help to deter unauthorized activity.
+ Observe and report any unusual activity or security-related concerns to the appropriate personnel.
+ Assist with access control by monitoring entry and exit points and verifying credentials as required.
+ Support Allied Universal and client staff during emergency response activities and/or drills.

**What You'll Work On**
The Manufacturing Process Engineer implements and maintains plant equipment, systems, and other fixed assets to a high standard of safety, quality and productivity at the lowest possible cost while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. This role provides powder packaging equipment and powder handling support to all aspects of the operation.
**Major Responsibilities:**
+ Maintain and update reliability metrics, reports, and documentation.
+ Monitor and analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
+ Applies working knowledge of engineering disciplines
+ Independently conceives and develops approaches to problem solving that requires advanced technical knowledge
+ Solves problems that have a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements
+ Plans schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project, or in a total project of moderate scope
+ Facilitates the definition of a project scope with clients
+ Applies new technology where feasible
+ Directs the efforts of others such as technicians and outside resources
+ Interfaces with project team members, department managers, designers, R&D and Corporate and Division Engineering
+ Performs tasks such as writing RCEs, VCRs, Scope Documents, etc.
+ Manages capital projects
+ Performs other work-related duties as assigned
**Operations Technical Support:**
+ Provide technical support to the Sturgis plant, division engineering and the Quality Assurance function in the areas of powder packaging equipment, powder handling, new product introductions, new equipment start-up, manufacturing equipment optimizations, vendor qualifications and process alternative evaluations.
+ Implement new and/or current manufacturing methods into manufacturing
+ Monitor production to determine areas of improvement and react to unforeseen production/manufacturing issues
+ Provide technical training to plant personnel including engineering, equipment operators, electricians, instrument technicians and maintenance
+ Create and execute validation activities according to plant/division policy
**Design Engineering:**
+ Complete design of process systems, incorporating best available technologies while adhering to Abbott policies, regulatory requirements, GMP standards, Abbott Engineering Standards and Environmental Health/Safety regulations
+ Create equipment/process specifications, drawings, and procedures, as required, and ensure that existing documentation is accurate and appropriate
+ Research, recommend, implement, and qualify replacement parts for discontinued/obsolete components and equipment
**Cost Reduction/Productivity Improvement:**
+ Identify and implement cost reduction and productivity improvement projects within Abbott Nutrition
+ Areas of focus include process improvements, new manufacturing processes and new technologies
**EHS:**
+ Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for Environmental Health and Safety performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott's EHS program
You'll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering **OR** equivalent experience
+ 3+ years' experience in engineering/project management **OR** advanced education to achieve the level of skill
+ Good communication skills, both written and verbal
+ Strong leadership skills
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Work experience in the food/medical industry under FDA regulation
