Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. **The Purpose of This Position** : Manufacturing Associates are responsible for raw materials, In- process ware flow, subassemblies, and finished goods used within the cable manufacturing process.
**Duties And Responsibilities**
+ Work schedule is 12-hour rotations.
+ First day of rotation mandatory pre-shift meeting/huddle 15 minutes before start of shift.
+ Standing/walking the majority of the shift
+ Tobacco-free facility
+ Beginning of shift check with Production Coordinator regarding assignments and production priorities.
+ Responsible for assembling shop papers, MI's and raw materials prior to start up. Start up and change overs are per standard operating procedure.
+ Monitor lines while running to ensure quality product, perform necessary PQA checks to ensure product is manufactured to specification.
+ Associates are required to report nonconformance.
+ Ensure workspace is 5S ready, clean and orderly.
+ Associates are expected to know performance metrics and work toward targeted objectives.
+ May perform weekly associate maintenance.
+ Associates should proactively report any equipment issues as soon as they become aware.
+ Perform preventive maintenance procedures, may occasionally troubleshoot.
+ Assist RD&E with experiments as requested.
+ Loading and unloading raw materials. Attention to consistent material handling procedures with an awareness of safe material transport according to environmental and hazardous materials protocols.
+ Receiving materials to stock, storing, issuing raw materials and miscellaneous items for production use while maintaining inventory accuracy using cycle counts and daily transactions.
+ Properly label and package reels for shipment to customer.
+ Verify Quality Check paperwork, barcode and data sheets, with reel tag.
+ Physically inspect reel via traverse, damage, and print statement.
+ Work in a team environment to optimize output of quality product, assist others as necessary, and promote safety awareness.

Wieland is hiring a Manufacturing Cost Estimator . The Manufacturing Cost Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed cost estimates and quotes for precision aerospace components and mass-produced data center parts. Both part families consist of CNC machining, friction stir welding (FSW), and complex fabrication processes. The Estimator will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to generate competitive, well-documented quotes for both new and existing programs. A strong background in machining industry cost modeling is essential. This role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
Manufacturing Cost Estimator Responsibilities:
- Interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications to understand scope and manufacturing requirements.
- Analyze customer RFQs and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for CNC machining, welding (especially FSW), fabrication, and assembly operations.
- Determine material, labor, machine time, tooling, and subcontracting needs.
- Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing staff and outside vendors to verify feasibility and optimize cost.
- Maintain historical cost data and standard estimating practices.
- Participate in proposal reviews and provide cost breakdowns as needed.
- Support make-vs-buy decisions and vendor cost evaluations when necessary.
- Update cost models based on actuals and lessons learned from completed jobs.
- Provide input to strategic pricing decisions based on cost drivers, market conditions, and customer priorities.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Expertise with CAD/CAM software and quoting tools.
- Background in low- to medium-volume aerospace production environments.
- Prior exposure to government or defense contract estimating.
- Prior exposure to AS9100 practices.
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the ability to access and handle ITAR Technical Data as defined by 22 CFR

Wieland is hiring a Manufacturing Cost Estimator . The Manufacturing Cost Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed cost estimates and quotes for precision aerospace components and mass-produced data center parts. Both part families consist of CNC machining, friction stir welding (FSW), and complex fabrication processes. The Estimator will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to generate competitive, well-documented quotes for both new and existing programs. A strong background in machining industry cost modeling is essential. This role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on-site.
ResponsibilitiesManufacturing Cost Estimator Responsibilities:
- Interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications to understand scope and manufacturing requirements.
- Analyze customer RFQs and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for CNC machining, welding (especially FSW), fabrication, and assembly operations.
- Determine material, labor, machine time, tooling, and subcontracting needs.
- Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing staff and outside vendors to verify feasibility and optimize cost.
- Maintain historical cost data and standard estimating practices.
- Participate in proposal reviews and provide cost breakdowns as needed.
- Support make-vs-buy decisions and vendor cost evaluations when necessary.
- Update cost models based on actuals and lessons learned from completed jobs.
- Provide input to strategic pricing decisions based on cost drivers, market conditions, and customer priorities.
Manufacturing Cost Estimator Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Expertise with CAD/CAM software and quoting tools.
- Background in low- to medium-volume aerospace production environments.
- Prior exposure to government or defense contract estimating.
- Prior exposure to AS9100 practices.
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the ability to access and handle ITAR Technical Data as defined by 22 CFR 120.33 is an essential function
