The Impact You Will Make:
The Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing is responsible for maintaining and developing best practices for the production of the Copper Press product line. This includes but is not limited to: updating drawings for parts and tooling, troubleshooting machine problems, development of standard work, and participating in lean production activities. The Engineer will serve as an integral team member within the Manufacturing Engineering Group, reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
A Typical Day:
- Evaluates and recommends changes in methods and procedures in assigned area of responsibility.
- Assesses new manufacturing technologies for potential investment.
- Specify and assist in the specification, procurement, and installation of machinery and tooling.
- Design tooling, fixtures, and inspection equipment through the use of 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting software.
- Provide support in the form of troubleshooting tooling and machinery problems.
- Assists in the development of maintenance (TPM) plans and instructions for all machinery in the department.
- Performs other special projects/tasks assigned by management.
- Participates in continuous improvement or problem/solving activities.
- Assist in the development and upkeep of Standard Work.
Your Expertise:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology preferred.
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing basics (8 Wastes, TPM, Kaizen, SMED).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software, Solid Edge a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Able to function in a highly collaborative environment and interact positively and openly with employees, supervisors and other departments.
- Able to work constructively in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Familiarity with BOM, Routings, and Time Studies.
- High level of attention to detail

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. A manufacturing engineer monitors and improves established manufacturing processes and equipment. **Scope of Position**
+ Work closely with development teams to maximize potential for success of incoming manufacturing/products
+ Collect data for incoming products and compare vs. metrics
+ Perform trend analysis (by equipment, attribute, product) and monitor/response plans
+ Recommend improvements to manufacturing processes/equipment and drive equipment robustness
+ Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions
+ Ensure accurate documentation for incoming manufacturing/products
+ Create manufacturing improvement corrective action plans and solutions
+ Provide inputs about equipment maintenance requirements and shortfalls
+ Identify when engineering support is required to address significant production platform/process/specification issues or changes

**Roles and Responsibilities**
Be a leader of managers for a multi-functional team responsible for Wilmington's Fuel Manufacturing Operation (FMO) processes. Provide overall responsibility for safe and compliant completion of nuclear fuel manufacturing activities. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Lead a strong nuclear safety and EHS compliance culture with emphasis on employee involvement.
+ Responsible for meeting or exceeding customer requirements and operational metrics.

**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university (or verified equivalent) plus a minimum of ten (10) years of supervisory or technical experience in a nuclear, manufacturing, operations, military, or other technical field. Of that experience, at least five (5) years of experience must be in a supervisory/managerial position.

+ Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university (or verified equivalent) plus twelve (12) years of supervisory or technical experience in a nuclear, manufacturing, operations, military, or other technical field. + Ability to walk up and down stairs. Ability to move around and under manufacturing equipment.
+ Ability and willingness to cover off-shifts, as the manager of a 24-hour operation. Must maintain after hours cell phone availability.
