Paperwork is normally completed in an office at a desk or table.
Lifting
Bulk product deliveries are made twice a week or more and are unloaded by the team member using a hand truck.
Deliveries may include cases of ingredients and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds with dimensions of up to 3' x 1.5'.
Cases are usually lifted from floor and stacked onto shelves up to 72 high.
Carrying
Large cans, weighing 3 pounds, 7 ounces, are carried from the workstation to storage shelves.
Occasionally, pizza sauce weighing 30 pounds is carried from the storage room to the front of the store.
Trays of pizza dough are carried three at a time over short distances, and weigh approximately 12 pounds per tray.
Pushing
To move trays which are placed on dollies. A stack of trays on a dolly is approximately 24 - 30 and requires a force of up to 7.5 pounds to push.
Trays may also be pulled.
Climbing
Team members must infrequently navigate stairs or climb a ladder to change prices on signs, wash walls, perform maintenance.

Function / Position Summary
Responsible for all duties related to the preparation and serving of student meals and snacks (daily). Adheres to the National Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack Programs guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Provides excellent customer service to all. Attend monthly Safety meeting, required trainings and in-service meetings. May be required to leave the main work site on occasion for meetings, etc.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Responsible for the proper handling and storage of all food and supplies.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary workspace, in the kitchen area.
- Maintains a required system of accountability.
- Prepares weekly projections to order food and supplies for menus.
- Utilizes correct measuring and serving utensils to ensure accurate meal portioning as specified by district policy.
- Performs and documents temperature/sanitation checks as required by law.
- Ensures dishwashing is always ongoing/completed to meet sanitation expectations.
- Ability to operate a cash register, make change accurately, balance and close in a timely matter (when assigned).
- Exemplify leadership attitude ensuring that all meals are served in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently all positions in the kitchen.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
- Experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Excellent customer service.
- Hold a State of Illinois Food Handler card and demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job which includes. If Certification is not current, must be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Minimum of one (1) years' experience cashiering, customer service, cafeteria line server or related field, preferred.
- Ability to successfully complete required written documentation.
- Ability to verbally communicate.
- Responsible for checking and responding to work related emails in a timely manner.
Physical Demands
- Ability to assist in lifting 50 lbs. with proper technique.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must wear appropriate, clean uniforms, hair covering, and safety shoes provided.
- Ability to work in very hot and very cold conditions.
Terms of Employment
- This is a ten (10) month, part-time SEIU position. Salary and benefits as per the current collective bargaining agreement and approved by the Board of Education.
- Must be able to adhere to all Blackout dates according to the Food and Nutrition Calendar.
- Must complete all FNS and District mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due date.
- May be asked to come in two days before school starts to open kitchen.
- May be asked to come in one day after school ends to close kitchen.
- Maintain a positive attendance record as specified in FNS Department Handbook & SEIU contract.

PAY RANGE: $16.20-$20.00
Department MissionTo provide leadership using policies, procedures and available systems to support the Harbor Light Center in meeting the mission of The Salvation Army.
Program/Client EnvironmentThe backgrounds of the clients served by The Harbor Light Program will manifest a variety of inappropriate behaviors. When this occurs, employees are to respond within the context of the treatment environment of the site. Employee conduct (actions, dress, etc) and interactions (conversations, written communications, etc.) with clients must also be within the treatment environment of the facility.
OutcomesThis position assists in the general preparation, service, and clean up of the meals provided at Harbor Light.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- The steam table, coffee and drink station are set up prior to each meal. Salad, fruit and coffee are made in accordance with quality standards.
- All meals are served in a timely fashion. Leftovers are stored, labeled and dated properly.
- Steam table, counters, dishes and other serving areas are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Dining room is cleaned as needed. All trash is removed promptly.
- All preparation for the following day meal is prepared in a timely fashion.
- Assist with the reception and storage of food and non food items.
- All daily cleaning tasks assigned are completed and documented. Documentation is properly maintained.
- All other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
This position reports to the Food Service Manager.
In contacts related to this position's duties this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
Performance Measurements
This individual will be evaluated on how effective the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
Education/Experience- Food Handlers Certificate required.
- Kitchen experience is required, especially institutional food services.
- Able to work as a team member and well with others.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work at fairly fast pace.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.
- An attention to detail.
- A positive attitude and ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
- Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Food Service Manager informed on all critical issues relating to her/his area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
- This position is required to do light physical work. Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 50lbs.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard kitchen equipment.
- The work environment for this position includes a kitchen environment with a low to high noise level.
- Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
