The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is responsible for ensuring structural and thermal design robustness across the Raytheon portfolio of products.  From preliminary concepts to fielded weapon system support, MA&T delivers innovative structural and thermal engineering solutions utilizing methods ranging from classical fundamental & empirically based techniques to state-of-the-art finite element methods leveraging industry leading commercial tools; all complimented and validated by tests executed in a manner to ensure cost effective yet technically balanced solutions.

Raytheon is seeking an early career Structural Engineer to join the Mechanical Analysis and Test Department. In this role you will get the opportunity to work on products throughout their lifecycle from initial design trade studies and proposals through qualification testing to enduring production support.  Engineers will join and learn from a team of 200+ engineers working in all areas of structural engineering, and can expect a wide variety of assignments, from classical stress analyses to cutting edge computer aided analysis methodologies and field test support at locations around the world.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform detailed structural analyses to support all phases of programs

  • Generate test plans required to validate analyses and verify hardware compliance to customer requirements

  • Analyze test data to validate and correlate models, and/or generate mechanical loads and environments

  • Work with experienced analysts on problems of moderate complexity to provide the answers needed under program cost and schedule constraints

  • Coordinate and lead technical peer reviews ensuring the technical accuracy of work product

  • Present results to internal stakeholders and external customers

  • Generate detailed, archival technical reports

  • Travel to test sites to support test or design discussion (depending on work assignment)

The Mechanical Engineer II - Structural Engineer job is in Huntsville, AL and the position is onsite.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience

  • Experience in using structural analysis tools (PATRAN or NASTRAN or ANSYS or ABAQUS or equivalent software)

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Working knowledge of mechanical principles to solve classical structural engineering problems both inside and outside of software tools

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment and independently

  • 5+ years of professional experience in stress/structural analysis

  • Experience in structural testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation

  • Experience with dynamic shock and vibration analysis

  • Experience with solid modeling CAD tool such as CREO or equivalent

  • Experience with Matlab

  • Experience presenting to external customers

  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written

  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities

  • Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work on the production of Shipboard Effector products and subsystems located in Huntsville, AL .

What You Will Do:

  • Provide technical guidance as the Engineering representative for the Sustainment Execution Leadership Team

  • You will be responsible for ensuring that each recertification round delivered to the customer meets all allocated requirements in accordance with the technical data package.

  • You will work closely with Integrated Product Team Leads/Program Managers to ensure that engineering requirements are defined, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are met.

  • You will ensure Technical Data Packages are maintained and updated as necessary. Decisions must be data driven in nature and require preparing technical justification analysis reports as well as presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.

  • Provide support of recertification activities at Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility (RRMIF) as needed on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville Alabama

  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineers, Production Test Engineers, Engineering IPT Leads, and REAs responsible for the product. These interactions will include but not be limited to: review of test data, assistance in failure investigations, disposition of QNs/DPDs, etc.

  • Interface directly with the customer as a technical representative

  • Provide risk assessment of technical issues to OCE

  • Monitor and coordinate changes to the hardware/software configuration

  • Coordinate or facilitate configuration change management

  • Support and/or lead proposal efforts for sustainment activities

  • Periodic travel to suppliers and government facilities (10-15%)

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Eight (8) years of directly related work experience in mechanical design and/or production support

  • Project Management experience as engineering technical leader

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5

Qualifications We Prefer:

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Mechanical Execution Planner is an integral part of the production control team. He / she will be responsible for completely dissecting a technical data package (TDP) to determine appropriate build steps including machining, fabrication, welding, plating, painting, non-destructive testing (NDT), etc. The mechanical execution planner must be able to effectively communicate with supervisors, floor techs performing the work, as well as quality control personnel. * Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and military specifications
* Create routers for all required operational steps from the requirements specified within the technical data package (TDP)
* Identify part marking requirements
* Monitor metrics for system performance management
* Prioritize and sequence work, executing work plans and implementing controls

+ Support system test monitoring, test set-up conformity, and review of test reports and qualification test reports and failure investigations reports.
+ Initiating, facilitating, managing, and validating the effectiveness of root cause analysis, corrective, and preventative actions.
+ Driving Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities through to closure.
BAE site location may either be Hudson, NH or Huntsville, AL. Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a flexible hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or 10 years of experience in lieu of degree
+ Knowledge of C or other software programming language
+ Experience performing software coding, testing, validation, and verification activities
+ Familiar with software industry best practices
+ Experience with systems engineering processes, methodologies, and tools
+ Engineering development experience
+ Ability to mine data and create visualizations of the data
+ Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
+ Well-organized
+ A passion for product / process improvement
+ Strong communicator capable of working through complex issues with peers, management, and multiple functions
**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Bachelor's Degree in related field (ie Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering) and 6 years of experience
+ Familiar working on government contracts delivering software
+ AS9100/ISO9000 certification & audit experience
+ Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
+ Root Cause/Corrective Action methodologies
