Our nonprofit client is looking for Media Relations Coordinator to join their team remote (based on the West Coast), 15-20hr/wk for 3 months. In this role, you will focus on managing communication strategies and fostering positive relationships with media outlets to promote our organization's goals.
Responsibilities:
+ Coordinate media relations activities, from helping prioritize media opportunities to gathering information for journalists to vetting new media inquiries.
+ Track media coverage daily and compile coverage report on a weekly or biweekly basis.
+ Assemble reports summarizing results for various topics, issues, and projects or clients, as well as challenges and opportunities.
+ Monitor news around issue areas of focus; capturing and reporting out themes; identifying opportunities and recommendations on how best to take advantage of them. Research specific reporters to understand their beats/style.
+ Build and maintain media lists focused on different issue areas, media, and markets.
+ Assist with media event production, such as press conferences or briefings.
+ Provide support to the department leaders, such as taking notes during check-ins and other internal meetings; drafting agendas, notes, and next steps; and updating action plans.
Requirements
+ 2-4 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within a government, electoral campaign, or policy environment, and at least 2 years coordinating media relations activities.
+ Experience in communications and an understanding of how the media industry operates, particularly in service of social justice.
+ Strong writing, editing, copy editing, and proofing skills, with strategic attention to messaging, voice, and accuracy.
+ Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

As the Director of Media Relations, you will lead and develop media strategies to create awareness and drive demand for the company’s early cancer detection product Shield.   • Provide strategic counsel, direction and guidance on the right forum, timing, and messaging to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage communications around key milestones including important data announcements, regulatory milestones and product launches
  • Drive day-to-day media relations, managing press outreach, responding to media inquiries, and executing proactive media campaigns to increase awareness of the early cancer detection portfolio
  • Lead the development of communications materials including press releases, Q&As, fact sheets, videos, website content, executive talking points and product and company milestones
  • Serve as a media spokesperson, build and expanding relationships with key reporters
  • Prepare company spokespeople for media interviews and other engagements, including training spokespeople, as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience; relevant experience at a PR agency or in-house at a healthcare, biotech or diagnostic company preferred
  • BA or BS required, degree in communications, journalism, public relations, business or relevant field preferred
  • Product launch experience highly preferred.

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model : At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $210,400 to $289,300. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Your work will help connect the public with beekeepers, ensuring more honey bee colonies are saved this spring.

About Swarmed

Swarmed is a volunteer-run, community-driven project that helps people report and rescue bee swarms by connecting them with local beekeepers. Every year, thousands of honey bee swarms end up exterminated simply because people don’t know what to do. We make it easy for anyone to find help.

Swarmed isn’t a company or startup—it’s a public resource built by and for beekeepers and local communities. Since its launch, Swarmed has facilitated the rescue of over 2,000 swarms , helping beekeepers relocate them to safe new homes instead of losing them forever.

What You’ll Do

You’ll manage our PR agency, build relationships with key reporters, and oversee press announcements, media briefings, and events. You’ll also develop and execute communication strategies that support executive visibility, align internal messaging, and reinforce our brand across channels. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and agency partners to drive consistent, high-quality coverage and ensure our messaging reflects the company’s goals and values. This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring strong writing, relationship management, and execution skills. What will you do? Media Relations: Manage relationships with our PR agency to ensure high-quality, impactful media coverage Serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries, including radio, television, print, and social media. Forge and maintain strong relationships with key press contacts and media outlets Draft, edit, and oversee the distribution of press releases, articles, and other communications materials across multiple platforms. Strategic Communications: Develop and implement PR strategies to enhance the company’s reputation and visibility. Coordinate strategic news announcements, thought leadership initiatives, and public events. Manage crisis communications and act as the spokesperson during significant events or incidents. Provide strategic communications support to the executive team and other key stakeholders within the organization. Content Development: Oversee the creation and editing of content for press releases, speeches, and public statements. Coordinate closely with the marketing team to integrate PR campaigns and messaging with broader marketing initiatives, including social media, blogs, website content, video production, webinars, conferences, and events. Develop executive, internal and external communications content Collaborate with internal teams to assist with content and production of internal events such as Friday Sync, Half Kick Offs and Quarterly updates Awards and Recognition: Identify and pursue opportunities for industry awards and honors. Prepare submissions and manage the recognition process. External Communications: Act as the principal contact with regulatory agencies, government bodies, and other external organizations as needed. Ensure all external communications comply with company policies and regulatory requirements. Measurement and Reporting: Track and report on PR campaign effectiveness and media coverage. Provide regular updates to leadership on PR activities and outcomes. What do you bring to the table? Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. 6+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, corporate communications, and/or marketing, with a proven track record of success in these areas. Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editing skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Deep understanding of media relations and digital media strategies. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with experience managing complex stakeholder relationships and working with executives. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Experience in technology, Generative AI, or SaaS industries. Familiarity with digital media and social media platforms.
