The Medical Assistant will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care.

Responsibilities

• Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Organize patient flow.
• Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
• Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
• Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
• Check to-dos/Nurse line.
• Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule. Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
• Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
• Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
• Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
• Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
• Anesthesia/Inject for procedures.
• Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.

• Must maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications

• Able to triage patient problems.
• Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
• Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
• Experience administering injections.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Knowledge of office financial policies.
• Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
• Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Fluent in English.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
• Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
• Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
• Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

• High School Graduate or GED required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor's degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
• CPR certified preferred.
• 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
• Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
• Use of hands and fingers.
• Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
• Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
• Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
• Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.

Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant is the first point of contact for patient care. Responsible for administrative duties in addition to patient care. The Medical Assistant performs varied activities and moderately complex administrative/operational/customer support assignments. Performs computations. Typically works on semi-routine assignments.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities: (Included, but not limited to) • Assisting all Doctors/Nurses/Reps/Coordinators/Managers in support of delivering expert medical care to our patients • Direct interaction with patients (Greeting/Collecting intake info/Setting up Exam Rooms/Phone Calls, etc.) • Other Day-to-day activities include fax correspondence, point-of-care testing, preparing/assisting for surgical procedures • Deliver our mission of bringing state-of-the-art expertise and patient care to our clientele. Requirements of the Medical Assistant: • Completion of a technical/vocational training school program with either CMA, AAMA, RMA, or CCMA Medical Assistant certification -OR- • Emergency Medical Technician certification; as well as a high school diploma or equivalent preferred • BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification • Medical Assistant experience or the equivalent thereof in a high-volume medical setting with the ability to read, write and interpret medical terminology • Scheduling flexibility to be able work morning/afternoon/evening hours four to five days per week as needed • Demonstrated ability and strong commitment to exceptional patient care and customer service principles • Positive and energetic attitude which inspires other team members • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with an ability to remain focused under pressure • Aptitude to communicate effectively, balance multiple tasks, set priorities, and solve problems independently or in a group. • Technology proficiency is critical, including previous EMR/EHR experience as well as working knowledge of Microsoft software products such as Word and Outlook, • Scribe/Document for physician while in the room. Medical Assistant Triage Responsibilities:

• Answer incoming patient calls, portal messages, and voicemails promptly
• Gather detailed patient information for a multi provider, multi site practice to determine appropriate course of action for patients concerns
• Use appropriate medical terminology and document patient reported issues in the EHR (EMA)
• Provider empathetic and professional communication, escalating concerns to the proper leadership when necessary
• Follow triage protocols to identify urgent vs non urgent concerns
• Knowledge and experience of medications, procedures, and surgeries specific to dermatology
• Provide wound care directions following triage protocols for general dermatology and Mohs surgeries.
• Record all interactions in the EHR
• Scheduling patients for wound checks when necessary

Requirements:

• Medical Assistant experience or the equivalent medical background in a high-volume medical setting with the ability to read, write and interpret medical terminology, dermatology a plus.
• Ability to speak other languages a plus.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Eligible for hybrid schedule after 90 days.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Must be a graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program; Medical Assistant curriculum must include pharmacology and medication administration. Certification/registry must be obtained by the last day of the sixth month of hire, and an education agreement signed. Certification/registry accepted: CMA with the American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), CCMA with the National Health Career Association (NHA), RMA with the American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (NHCWA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) American Allied Health (AAH), and RMA with the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA). Alternative Work Experience (for eligibility to take NHA, ARMA, NHCWA, NCCT, NAHP or AMT exams, if not already certified or registered on hire): Applicant shall be employed as a supervised medical assistant for a minimum of one (1) year (NHA or NHCWA) within the last three (3) years, for a minimum of 2 years (NCCT, NAHP), for a minimum of 3 years (ARMA), for a minimum of 5 years (AMT) of the last 7 years (with no more than 2 of those years as an instructor in a post-secondary medical assistant program). Or graduate of an Accredited School of Professional Nursing. Experience must include both clinical (including medication administration) and administrative duties.
• Experience: Previous work in a medical office, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Current certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire as CMA, RMA or CCMA, required.

  • Current State Drivers License (Palliative Care Only), required.
• Additional Skills (required): Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency testing.
