General Summary

The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team.   • The Medical Assistant will perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor.
  • The Medical Assistant will consistently confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments of patients.
  • Greets and prepare patients.
  • Measures and records vital signs.
  • Records patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
  • Provides patient education with regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and performs routing screening tests.
  • Assists physicians with exams.
  • Performs phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens. Performs basic lab tests.

  • Change dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures.
  • Uses CPR skills when necessary.
  • Prepares accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Opens office in the morning and closes in the afternoon.
  • Assist in maintaining patient logs for the following: Lab requests, CT scans and other treatment orders for the patients.
  • Maintains prescription ledger when needed.
  • Ensures the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full and assists with room turnover.
  • Performs new patient thorough work-up (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).
  • Adds medical history on all new patients and updates all established patients' history accurately.
  • Performs accurate and complete room set-up for physician.
  • Ensures that all patients medication is updated before physician visit.
  • Handles set-up for in office surgical procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate consent form is completed correctly avoiding the use of too many medical abbreviations within the consent forms.
  • Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.
  • Prepares for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation for next day visit.
  • Completes patient medical record requests when necessary.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed.
  • Meets established attendance criteria and starts work promptly. Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.
  • Respects and acknowledges the organizations commitment to cultural diversity, which is expressed through behavior, language and actions.
  • Consistently demonstrates good use of time and resources.
  • Adherence to HR, & Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.
  • Ensures compliance of healthcare regulations, medical laws and high ethical standards.
  • Regularly adheres and supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.

+ Specimen management: obtain specimens for testing if applicable (including performing phlebotomy and anterior nares nasal swab collections), performs laboratory and screening tests, records results in EMR and reconciles with logs where appropriate, documents and reports findings to providers, performs all quality controls as per Point of Care Testing guidelines, prepares specimens for transport as necessary.
+ Performs EKGs and other outpatient screening tests as per MD order and after properly preparing the patient; accurately documents results in EMR.
+ Assists with minor surgical procedures by handing instruments, maintaining sterile field, positioning of patient and other duties within scope of responsibility. Functions as a witness for procedural consents if required.
+ Responds appropriately to emergency/code situations.
+ Demonstrates competence in the observation, treatment, and care of the specific patients served in that practice, whose ages may range from neonate to geriatric.
+ Clinical Care Associates (CCA) MAs - if applicable as per regulatory guidelines: administers prescribed medications, gives injections and vaccines; reads PPD results, under the direction of the provider/orders and documents in EMR.

+ Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instruments and equipment according to protocols and checks that the instruments and equipment are in proper working order. Notifies Supervisor of malfunctions. Sets up equipment and instruments as per practice protocol.
+ Cleans and restocks equipment as needed. Authorized to access secured area to obtain items such as intravenous solutions and medication preparation supplies for the purpose of stocking and maintaining pars in the medication carts. Retrieves supplies and medications/blood products from tube system. Secures stock items in appropriate location. Delivers patient specific medications/blood products to the assigned nurse or provider.
+ Maintain temperature log for refrigerator or room temperature as needed.

Job Description

The Department of Neurology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), located in beautiful northern New England, is searching for a dynamic physician to become the new Section Chief of Headache Medicine. The new Section Chief will lead Headache Medicines clinical and research operations.

The Section Chief of Headache Medicine will lead a diverse group of physicians and advanced practice providers to provide state-of-the-art patient care, to advance novel research, and to train the next generation of clinicians in headache medicine. The section has a UCNS-accredited headache medicine fellowship program to be overseen by the Section Chief.

The Section Chief of Headache Medicine should be a skilled physician with experience overseeing a busy outpatient service, as well as be familiar with the tripartite academic mission of clinical care, education, and research. UCNS certification in headache medicine is required, as is current licensure (or ability to be licensed) in New Hampshire and Vermont. The position will be a mix of clinical, administrative, and research/education activities, which will vary based on the candidates background.

The Section Chief of Headache Medicine is the physician member of the Section leadership team, which also includes the Practice Manager and the Nurse Manager. Together this team is responsible for the overall direction, operation, and management of the Section of Headache Medicine in accordance with its operational, educational and research missions, which are in turn aligned with the Department of Neurology, Dartmouth Health, and the Geisel School of Medicine. As a leadership team, they create a work environment of mutual respect and psychological safety, based on commitment to a shared purpose.

The Section Chief serves as a physician role model of appropriate, expert, compassionate, and high-value clinical care, of effective teaching of learners at all levels, and of respectful and inclusive relationships with interprofessional colleagues within the Section and throughout the Organization. The Section Chief is appointed by, reports to, and serves at the discretion of the Department Chair.

Minimum qualifications:

Qualified candidates will qualify for the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine; have experience as a leader in an academic medical center; be UCNS Certified in Headache Medicine; be board-certified in either Neurology, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine by the ABPN, ABIM, or AOA; and be eligible for licensure in New Hampshire and Vermont.
