We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented 5-Axis CNC Mill Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and maintaining 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce precision components according to engineering specifications.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce complex parts with tight tolerances.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
• Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
• Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and CMM.
• Troubleshoot and adjust machine settings to ensure optimal performance and part quality.
• Maintain accurate documentation of setups, tool changes, and production logs.
• Collaborate with engineers and programmers to optimize machining processes.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and work area.
• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in setting up 5-axis CNC milling machines.
• Experience with Haas and Fanuc controls.
• Ability to machine materials such as Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel.
• Proficiency in G-code and CNC programming.
• Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in machining or manufacturing preferred.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Setup and operate Manual Mill with little assistance. Validate work instructions before machining to assure accuracy of operations. The ability to be flexible / adaptable to work on CNC machines / manual machines. Detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required. Document actions by completing work order routings. Work as a team player with others in a demanding fast-paced environment to meet frequently changing production. 100% inspections to ensure dimensional and surface finish requirements are met for all parts machined. Comply with all NOV Health Safety Environmental (HSE), HR, & Quality polices & procedures. Required PPE: safety eye protection, steel toe boots, and hard hat at all times. Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance. Must have a high standard of quality by minimizing scrap rate. Keen attention to detail. Must be familiar with precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc. Load parts utilizing overhead lifting equipment if needed, operating controls, deburring. Facilitate objectives for Safety, Quality, Innovation, provide feedback on process improvements, cost savings, and opportunities to work more efficiently and / or safely. Must have own tools. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Effective Communication. 3-5+ years machining experience, Manual Mill experience strongly preferred. Experience setting up and operating computer and mechanically controlled machine tools such as grinder, drill press, hydraulic press, etc. High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational education (commercial or shop training; technical school) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Ability to adapt to change. Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges. Experience with G-code Programming. Ability to accept feedback and deal calmly and effectively with stressful situations. Knowledge of lathes a plus. Operate a small LP forklift. Operate raw stock horizontal band saw. Good work ethic and flexibility to work overtime when needed. Ability to transition to CNC machines eventually. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating various horizontal and vertical mills, interpreting detailed blueprints, and ensuring precision in parts with tight tolerances. The role requires proficiency with Fanuc controls and G/M Code.

Responsibilities

• Operate and manage horizontal and vertical mills efficiently.
• Read and interpret in-depth blueprints accurately.
• Complete offsets and change tooling as required.
• Utilize precision measurement tools to ensure tight tolerances (+/- .0008).
• Ensure all parts meet client specifications.
• Work with Fanuc controls, specifically G/M Codes.

• Set up and operate CNC 4 axis mills with G code programming using one to eight work shifts, 10 to 40 tools.
• Ability to write and edit complex G code mill programs with the ability to calculate trigonometry equations.

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-2 years' experience in Manual Lathe and Mill operation
• 3-5 years' experience in CNC Lathe operation
• Experience in an Engineer-to-order Make-to-Order shop environment
• Experience or training in and can demonstrate an understanding of "Lean Manufacturing Principles"

• Proven ability to read and understand blueprints
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Working knowledge of MS Office programs, i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook
• Demonstrated ability to setup a machine and run the job with no supervision

Temp-to-Hire

Pay: $25.00 - 27.00/hr. (DOE)

Shift: 6:30 am - 2:30 pm (OT Flexible)

Skilled CNC Mill Programmer & Operator to run our Haas VFS-2 3-axis vertical mill. This person will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating the mill to produce both prototypes and production parts from engineering drawings.

In addition to running the mill, this person will program other CNC equipment (such as laser tables and plasma tables) as needed though they will not operate those machines day-to-day. They will collaborate closely with engineering/drafting to provide design-for-manufacturability feedback.

• Program, set up, and operate the HAAS VFS-2 CNC mill using G-code and Fusion 360 CAM software.
• Program additional shop equipment (laser tables, plasma tables) for production, when needed.
• Design and set up simple fixtures and work holding solutions.
• Select proper tooling, speeds, and feeds for quality and efficiency.
• Produce both prototypes and production runs per engineering drawings.
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality using precision measuring tools.
• Provide design-for-manufacturability feedback to engineering/drafting.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot issues.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Required:

• 3+ years of experience programming and operating CNC mills (HAAS strongly preferred).
• Proficiency with Fusion 360 or similar CAM software.
• Ability to independently take apart from print to finished product.
• Strong G-code programming skills and knowledge of tooling/fixtures.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, and other precision inspection tools.

Preferred:

• Experience programming for additional CNC equipment (laser, plasma).
• Basic fixture design experience.
• Certifications (NIMS, trade school diploma) are a plus but not required.

Join a dynamic manufacturer in the South Bend-Mishawaka area as a CNC Mill Machinist on the 2nd shift. Be part of a team operating across five different CNC Machine cells, totaling around 20 CNC machines. You will primarily work with Horizontal Mills (4- or 5-axis Mills) and engage in both high-volume runs and custom part production.

Responsibilities:

• Operate both 4 and 5 axis mills.
• Read and interpret blueprints to set up tooling and jaws.
• Perform 1-3 machine setups per shift.
• Conduct first-piece inspections using quality tools.
• Make adjustments to CNC machinery and touch off tooling.
• Ensure parts meet client specifications using quality instruments.

Essential Skills:

• 3-5 years of experience operating CNC Mill machinery.
• Proficiency in using quality instruments such as micrometers and gages.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Physical capability to lift 25+ pounds repetitively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• NIMS Certification in CNC Machining is a plus.
