Job Description
PA: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and or specialty medical care (the practice of medicine) in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions the collaboration agreement of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730) performs complete histories and physicals on patients of all ages to establish and record patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings. PA's are privileged by the Board of Governors. PA's in the Hospital care role provide outpatient and/or hospital based care to patients (more than 50% of their time) with complex, acute, and chronic health conditions. Outpatient/Hospital care PA's practice in a setting that requires the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to manage acute and chronic health problems. Must have the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
+ Must be able to work with collaborating physician.
+ Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board.
+ Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury which may include assisting surgeons in conducting operations and taking initiative in performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in response to life- threatening situations, as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board.
+ May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine and CCF policy
+ Performs specialized procedures, including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies and harvest, blood draws, designated IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis and paracentesis as well as other specific procedures as directed by the physician, following approval by CCF Credentialing Board.
+ Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking and topics related to medical specialty, with basic recommendations.
+ Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.
+ Participates in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care
+ Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.
+ Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.
+ Performs research follow-up studies.

Provides standardized education in area of expertise as well as general education including but not limited to orientation, annual competency assessment, regulatory, accreditation and certification. Assists in the design of education based on educational standards, evidenced based practice and OhioHealth policy. The Staff RN component provides general nursing care to patients and families along the illness continuum while collaborating with the healthcare team.

50% Educator/Facilitator:
Integrates principles from theories of adult learning, organizational development, system, change and quality management into educational offerings.
Applies educational processes, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of program development and management.
Supports the process of needs assessment, educational planning and design, program implementation and evaluation.
Plans, conducts and evaluates programs designed to achieve desired level of competence and critical thinking.
Collaborates with Clinical Education Lead, Service Line Leads, Organizational Development and other educators to create educational activities/programs that encompass age specific populations for various organizational needs.
Analyzes and evaluates programs/activities for effectiveness.
Assists with orientation experience for new associates Assists with ongoing education, including in-services and competency assessment.
30% Staff Nurse:
Performs initial and ongoing assessment for applicable patient population.
Collects, analyzes and documents initial and ongoing subjective and objective data from patients, significant others and communities, and communicates to the appropriate individual.
Delegates tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses LPN, Patient Support Assistants PSA and other unlicensed personnel and reviews data obtained by these individuals in accordance with specific criteria and state statutes.
Uses assessment data to identify pertinent nursing diagnosis and collaborative problems.
Initiates care plans and documents nursing interventions.
Initiates and supports discharge plans.
10% Change Agent:
Implement education on new processes, equipment, and policy.
Facilitates and supports change through effective communication with associates and management.
Participates in committees, task forces and strategic planning meetings.
10% Project Management/Researcher:
Supports the integration of research into evidence-based practices.
Build an environment of evidenced-based practice to guide education practice.
Reviews and evaluate current research from a variety of disciplines and integrates findings into associate educational programs.
Promotes associate and manager knowledge and skills in the research process.
Sets priorities in identifying and responding to educational needs of assigned area.
Initiates and/or leads performance and practice improvement initiatives.
Anticipates and interprets trends driving development of programs to assure quality and cost- effective practice Balanced Scorecard, TJ c.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
Bachelor's Degree (Required)BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, RN - Registered Nurse - Ohio Board of Nursing
**Additional Job Description:**
RN license or licensed/certified in assigned clinical area of expertise **Bachelor's prepared (BSN)** in field of expertise, Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) and external fetal monitoring experience required. Knowledge of accreditation, regulatory and Certification requirements. 3 - 5 years of experience in designated clinical area (labor and delivery preferred) 2+ Years of Experience in education-adult development, knowledge, concepts strong communication skills.
