The Lower Merion School District is hiring Staff Nurses for its busy health services department.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position beginning immediately. Salary for the 2024-2025 school year is $44,875. Flexible scheduling may be available due to after-school needs for candidates interested in a later starting position.
SUMMARY
The staff nurse performs non-mandated school nurse duties under the direction of a certified school nurse assigned to the school and/or the Coordinator of Health Services. The staff nurse may be assigned to work along with the Certified School Nurse (in the presence of or in the absence of the Certified School Nurse). The staff nurse may be assigned to monitor a student(s) health needs while riding to and from school on a school bus. The staff nurse may be assigned to monitor the needs of a child or children on field trips. The staff nurse may be assigned to provide relief to the Certified School Nurse or another Staff Nurse during the nurse's lunch period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer medication according to PA Nurse practice standards and LMSD board policy.
- Maintain records of student medication.
- Maintain student health records under the direction of the Certified School Nurse or appropriate administrator- update information on an ongoing basis and log each student contact.
- Provide nursing care for illnesses and injuries for students and staff; and maintain ongoing record of nursing care delivered via designated database or written system.
- Implement nursing procedures for children with special health needs.
- Notify parents of illness and injury and other necessary communications and keep record of communications in database software.
- Perform ongoing clerical and computer work necessary to maintain up-to-date health records for students.
- Perform data entry in the health services database to assist the Certified School Nurse.
- Accompany students on field trips or during activities to provide nursing care as needed.
- Respond to change and to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
- Report cases of suspected child abuse in accordance with district guidelines under the directions of the Certified School Nurse Home and School visitor or appropriate administrator.
- Notify and update the Certified School Nurse appropriately regarding all important developments, student injuries and illness, communicable illness, routine matters of the health office.
- Notify building administrator and Nurse Coordinator of all important developments, serious student injuries and illnesses, and communicable illnesses
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current PA RN License in good standing required
- Current CPR/First Aide/AED certification required
- Promotes and supports Health and Wellness model and school environment in addition to providing nursing care for illness and injury
- Able to make accurate decisions about medical/nursing priorities
- Able to determine when intervention from other healthcare professionals is necessary and/or emergency transport to hospital may be needed

PARTIALLY remote position as it may require onsite reviews at provider offices based on needs of the area. Schedule is flexible. Remote aspects include contacting/scheduling provider onsite reviews, requesting records from providers via fax, abstraction & entry of medical records assigned by a Clinical Quality Lead nurse. RESPONSIBILITIES will include (but not limited to):
Contacting/scheduling provider offices & traveling to onsite medical record reviews (mileage, tolls, parking reimbursed)
Communicate effectively and professionally with office managers, health systems and any other facility or care providers
Scan/Upload/Download medical records from onsite reviews daily
Medical record abstraction into database from onsite visit, assigned remote charts
Highlighting member demographics & HEDIS evidence using Adobe Acrobat Reader
Reviewing Overreads for any corrections and addressing each daily
Abide by all Code of Conduct, HIPAA, and patient confidentiality requirements
Attend & successfully complete remote training for first two weeks of project. Training includes attending HEDIS measure training via MS TEAMS, testing for proficiency, computer-based company training. Training is paid.
