**Position Summary**
At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our Certified Nursing Assistants are valuable members of our team, who provide high quality and compassionate care to our residents, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under the supervision of a RN/LPN, Certified Nursing Assistants have frequent interactions with the residents for the purpose of providing activities of daily living. **Description of duties of a Certified Nursing Assistant include but are not limited to:**
+ Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs in order to maintain in the clinical facility an atmosphere conducive to treatment and comfortable for residents in care.
+ As directed by professional staff, moves, positions, lifts and transports residnets in care using a variety of lifts and other aids in order to make them more comfortable, to prepare them for treatment and to deliver them to appropriate treatment facilities.
+ Talk and listen to residents in care and respond by encouraging them to cooperate and participate in treatment activities in order to help them achieve attitudes conducive to treatment and rehabilitation.
+ Transport resident and supplies on occasion.

**Duties of a Nursing Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:**
+ Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
+ Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
+ Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
+ Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure and respiration rate.
+ Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs in order to maintain in the clinical facility an atmosphere conducive to treatment and comfortable for persons in care.
+ Feed persons requiring assistance in order to assure that such individuals receive appropriate nourishment.
+ Bathe and dress, brush teeth and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.
+ Maintain persons in care rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
+ On occasion and in conjunction with providing care, may perform a variety of housekeeping and cleaning duties as related to direct care in order to assure that the clinical facility is clean, sanitary, orderly, and properly supplied.
**Qualifications**

Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities during the probationary period.
**_NURSING ASSISTANT 2-Required_**
One year of satisfactory full-time experience in the provision of simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision.
**Preferred** **:** NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved certified nursing aide training program, one year of patient care experience and a High School Diploma or GED.

Patient Care Assistant I Responsibilities:
- Provides assistance and reassurance to patient upon admission to Care Center
- Performs general nursing care functions as part of the care team on a specific Care Center to provide patients with optimal health care
- Performs a variety of technical and clinical tasks based upon patient acuity which result in positive outcomes for the patient
- Performs phlebotomy services for patients based upon patient acuity
- Performs EKGs according to the physician's orders
- Provides care that reflects an understanding of individual cultural and religious diversities and needs as well as recognition of patient rights
- Other functions and performance indicators as needed by the department
- Must pass annual telemetry exam with a 90 or above
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of a NYS CNA training class and/or completion of Fundamentals of Nursing in a nursing program preferred

- Completion of program in phlebotomy, EKGs, and BLS preferred
