Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

International Health and Medical Services is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse Manager to oversee the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to patients while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role includes managing daily operations, addressing clinical issues, and fostering a collaborative environment to promote optimal patient care and staff development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health staff for assigned areas on a 24-hour basis.
  • Use appropriate consultation with experts of each discipline he/she supervises to ensure that practice and performance issues are addressed and resolved.
  • Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
  • Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.
  • Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
  • Function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
  • Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based programs and processes.

  • Take vital signs, collects specimens for lab testing, administers medications, administers IV fluid, performs 12-lead EKG as needed.
  • Performs point-of-care testing.
  • Accurately documents care given.
  • Strictly follows all infection control guidelines to provide safe patient care.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Minimum of six years of professional nursing experience is required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Employees shall have at least one year of general experience that demonstrates the following:
    • The ability to greet and deal tactfully with the public.
    • Capability of understanding and applying written and verbal orders, rules, and regulations. All personnel shall be literate and be able to interpret printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and must be able to compose reports.
    • Good judgment, courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through knowledge of his/her position responsibilities.
    • Ability to maintain poise and self-control during situations that involve mental stress, such as fires, explosions, civil disturbances, and building evacuations.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • This position is considered hazardous duty.
  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.

  • Be a U.S. citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the U.S. for permanent residence.
  • Have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.


Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant's background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.

This position involves direct service with Respite clients, and includes treatment planning, case management and clinical contacts. Additionally, it involves oversight of group programming and includes other management responsibilities. This is a fully benefited position. The Nurse Manager will provide medication monitoring and treatment for clients and will work closely with staff while providing consultation to other nurses and clinicians on site.

As a Respite Nurse Manager:

You Will:

  • Review medications upon admission, confirm prescriptions and dosages, set-up medication charting, administer, document and monitor medications of clients staying in Respite per ES Program policy
  • Complete health assessments of clients in Respite, and report findings to Clinical Nurse or Psychiatrist, as appropriate
  • Monitor clients' physical status as needed, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and blood sugar for signs of medication side effects. Report abnormal findings to prescribing clinician on duty
  • Provide training to nurses and relief nurses as necessary
  • Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of new or revised policies and procedures aimed at addressing existing or emerging needs
  • Monitor respite clients, including hourly bed checks and documentation, and provide closer observation as needed
  • Provide supportive counseling and safety for clients utilizing the program
Your Background:
  • Must be licensed in Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of five years' experience treating adults with serious mental illness and some experience treating adolescents and children
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Experience with residential or inpatient care (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

The ANM is expected to adhere to system and department compliance policies and any applicable laws and regulations. The ANM is expected to assume accountability and responsibility for translating the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the medical center/hospital and the nursing service into effective action under the guidance of the Nurse Manager. Responsibility is centralized within five major areas: Clinical Practice and Quality Outcomes, Human Resource Leadership, Management of the Environment, Financial Growth and Stewardship, and Operational Planning. **Job Responsibilities:** **1)** Clinical Practice and Quality Outcomes The Assistant Nurse Manager administers direct nursing care to patients and serves as a clinical resource and role model of clinical excellence for staff. Delivers service promise as evidenced by metrics in all unit practices and programs. Provides leadership collaboratively with the Nurse Manager in proactively developing quality-driven and cost-effective initiatives. Initiates and partners with the Nurse Manager to lead and achieve outcomes in service-based performance improvement efforts **2)** Human Resource Leadership: The Assistant Nurse Manager in collaboration with the Nurse Manager leads a positive work environment that facilitates the delivery of excellent patient and caregiver experiences. Accountable for unit issues in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, including the adequacy of appropriate materials and equipment, until resolution occurs. **4)** Financial Growth and Stewardship: The Assistant Nurse Manager is accountable for managing within budget in collaboration with the Nurse Manager as evidenced by metrics. Stewards financial resources and promotes growth by developing business plans and budgets for their unit in collaboration with the Nurse Manager per organizational goals and other relevant factors. Establishes expectations with the Nurse Manager and holds accountable staff regarding the delivery of high-quality, affordable care. Responds to budget variances in a proactive, timely manner in partnership with the Nurse Manager **5)** Operational Planning: The Assistant Nurse Manager, in concert with the Nurse Manager, sets a progressive pace for performance improvement and based on an assessment of internal and external influences, creates and implements plans that have a positive impact on the delivery of patient care and a positive work environment. Makes healthcare operations decisions /problem resolution to facilitate proper and timely patient flow on the unit and effective operations of the unit.
