+ Educate and consult with Directors of Nursing, Executive Directors and others to develop policies, systems and processes to enable WesleyLife to prepare for changes in requirements and ensure successful implementation of changes that will meet the intent of the regulations.
+ Conduct audits and assessments within our communities (e.g., mock surveys) within our health centers and assisted living services to review clinical standards of practice as well as compliance with State and Federal regulations and standards. Assess levels of compliance, identify areas for improvement and partner with local team members to develop plans of action to improve performance.
+ Facilitate the development and implementation of clinical systems and services related to Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), Social Services Consultation, and Dietary Consultation.
**Qualifications:**
+ Prior experience in nursing administration within a geriatric setting is required with three to five years of previous leadership experience expected
+ Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with other internal resources such as other Directors of Health Services as well as external resources, including state and federal resources, to stay ahead of current information and to proactively prepare for future services and/or trends within the industry.

The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 2 may be an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) for new employees who meet the RN CAP 2 criteria or attained through advancement from RN CAP 1. This position is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health care team, this position participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
All duties and responsibilities are expected to be performed in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state, and federal regulations.
+ Performs all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses.

**GENERAL SUMMARY:**
Provides individualized, high-quality nursing care to patients of all ages. Uses a team approach to delegate and coordinate patient care at admission, transfer, and discharge. Independently delivers nursing care using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, ethical principles, and professional judgment. Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Job duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
· Administers nursing care to patients; includes assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the patient's care plan in coordination with the physician.
· Provides nursing care guided by physician orders, unit protocols and professional judgment.
· Communicates effectively and appropriately with staff, physicians, patients, families and other healthcare team members.
· Participates in ongoing educational activities related to clinical knowledge and professional issues.
· Contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues by sharing knowledge and skills.
· Delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights.
· Considers factors relating to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning/delivering patient care.
· Provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling in recognition and solution of physical, emotional, and environmental health problems.
· Utilizes hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information.
· Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records.
· Works independently with limited direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment.
**MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:**
· Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
· Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association.
· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to populations served within three (3) months of hire.
· Ability to read, write and speak English language.

**Essential Functions:**
+ Oversees daily unit operations and staffing to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
+ Supports clinical staff, resolves issues, and facilitates communication across care teams.
+ Provides mentorship, staff education, and input on hiring and scheduling.
+ Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, documentation, and quality initiatives.
+ Leads interdisciplinary rounds, huddles, and patient/family care coordination.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
1. Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
2. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
3. 12 months of RN experience required. 24 months preferred.
4. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
5. Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
6. Unit specific credentialing and education active and in good standing.
**Position Purpose:**
The dedicated Charge Nurse is a registered nurse responsible for providing shift-to-shift leadership for the practice and delivery of safe, effective, efficient, ethical, and culturally competent care to the unit patient population. This pivotal role bridges direct patient care with administrative responsibilities, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership, resource allocation, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Charge Nurse ensures adherence to established policies, promotes a collaborative work environment, and supports staff development while maintaining patient safety and satisfaction.
