The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct basic nursing care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) as defined in RCW 18.79.260(3)e. The individualized plan includes meeting patients' routine care needs and providing comfort measures. The CNA communicates changes in patient care needs or concerns directly to the supervising licensed nurse. He / She must demonstrate compassion and concern in the care of others, and be able to accept direction. The CNA must utilize good time management skills and infection control practices to facilitate efficient and safe patient care.
By maintaining high standards of excellence, a qualified CNA will demonstrate the ability to support and further a patient-centered care culture. He/She will demonstrate the core values of WhidbeyHealth. PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Receives Orders:
- Receives patient assignment from supervising clinical team member.
- Setup / Preparation:
- Prepares equipment and supplies for patient care related to ADL's.
- Care Provided:
- Assists in ambulation, bathing, oral hygiene, pressure relief or other ADL's as appropriate.
- Quality of Care:
- Reports on patient abnormalities or injuries to the supervising clinical team member in a timely manner.
- Documentation of Care:
- Completes documentation for care provided as well as vitals, intake/outtake, or any other specialty patient care data in accordance with department policy.
- Other Duties As Assigned:

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
Training and Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. At least six (6) months recent patient care experience preferred. Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
Proficient in providing age-specific basic nursing care. Current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) verification.

- Ensure individualized care plans are followed and provide care planning staff with specific information, changes, and observations of the residents' needs and preferences
- Attend to the resident's needs, including; grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communication, in keeping with the individuals' care requirements
- Maintain each resident's skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers to fragile skin
- Protect the personal belongings of each resident and promptly report missing items according to established policy
- Take vital signs, residents' weights, apply creams/ointments, collect specimens, lift, move, and transport residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices to prevent accidents
