A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) seeks an exempt Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Intern at the St. Louis Dental Center. This position reports to the Director - SCU of OMFS and Vice Dean, Clinical Operations, Clinical Education & Community Partnerships. The OMFS Intern is responsible for performing various types of oral surgical procedures on patients under the supervision of OMFS faculty at MOSDOH (1500 Park), assuring high quality oral surgery services to patients of OMFS and its rotating specialties including urgent dental care and comprehensive dentistry, and teaching and guiding pre-doctoral (DMD) with the fundamental of Oral Surgery rotating in SCU of OMFS. This is a paid internship.
Requirements
**Major Job Duties**
+ Surgical consults, diagnosis, treatment planning, individually performing an array of surgical procedures with direct supervision of OMFS faculty members
+ Surgical workup, treatment alternative critical discussion with faculty and patients, first assistant with the faculty members of OMFS
+ Interact with dental students in performing outpatient procedures on a daily basis
+ Interact with residents of other specialties (Periodontics, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Implant Surgery) for collaborative treatment.
+ Interact and assist general dental faculty members' patients during urgent or emergent surgical needs
+ Attend medical emergency situations on the clinic floor as needed
+ Assist and attend all sedation-based OMFS cases
+ Participate in the weekly OMFS-evidence-based dentistry presentation by pre-doctoral students
+ Present elaborate and complex OMFS topics and Journal club at the OMFS club
+ Participate at the Saint Louis University- grand rounds when needed
+ Participate in advanced skill lab (suturing, manikin-based skill assessment)
+ Attend OMFS faculty lecture/ presentation series to Interns & students (as schedule permits)
+ Rotate with external surgical and specialty clinics with Dept of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Anesthesiology in affiliated Hospitals and Universities
+ Rotate with the internal specialty care unit of oral implantology
+ Prepare and present a poster or oral presentation in a State or National level professional meeting
+ Associate with existing research projects in the SCU of OMFS

We perform complex dental implant procedures, third-molar surgery, complex dentoalveolar and facial procedures, and provide deep IV/general anesthesia in-office with state-of-the-art monitoring (Sensei Cloud PMS, Vatech Green2 CBCT, hospital-grade anesthesia delivery systems). As we scale, were seeking an anesthesia-trained dentist who is passionate about perioperative care in an oral-surgery setting.
The Opportunity:
- Role: Full-time (4- or 5-day schedule) Dental Anesthesiologist.
- Scope: In-office IV & GA for full-arch implants, third molars, grafting, facial trauma, and select cosmetic procedures.
- Case Mix: 80 % OMS surgical anesthesia, 20 % consults, airway assessments, clinical QA, and staff training.
- Environment: Dedicated OR suites, certified anesthesia assistants, paperless charting, full ACLS crash cart, EMR-integrated vitals capture.
- Growth Track: Leadership in developing regional anesthesia service line; optional equity in future satellite locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive pre-anesthetic evaluations (ASA III primarily).
- Administer IV moderate, deep sedation & GA; manage airways (LMA, nasal/oral intubation).
- Continuously monitor patients using AAOMS & ASA standards; document anesthesia records for optimal insurance reimbursement.
- Direct and train DAANCE-certified assistants; champion safety drills & mock codes.
- Collaborate with surgeon on scheduling efficiencies, case turnover, and post-op pain protocols.
- Maintain DEA, MO dental, sedation permits, and board certification/recertification.
Ideal Candidate:
- DDS/DMD + CODA-accredited Dental Anesthesiology residency.
- Board-Certified/Board-Eligible by ADASA/ABDA (or equivalent).
- Active Missouri dental & conscious/deep sedation permits (or eligibility within 120 days).
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS .
- Documented experience with high-volume dentoalveolar or implant anesthesia (>500 cases preferred).
- Calm, engaging chairside manner; thrives in a fast-growing entrepreneurial culture.
