12 Hour Night Shift
**Description:**
· Consider bringing your expertise to a dynamic unit. The selected candidate will join a team of Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Physicians, Residents, and other esteemed members of the interdisciplinary team to provide care to our valued patient population.
Support staff on the unit includes Stroke Coordinator, Respiratory Therapy, physical and occupational and speech therapy, case management, nutritional services, social work, pharmacy, pastoral care, and community nursing service
The unit is managed by the Nurse Manager with a designated charge nurse each shift. The house nursing supervisor provides leadership during off hours and on weekends. Neurologists, Neurosurgery, and hospitalist support is available either in-house or by pager 24/7.
Flexible self-scheduling, with designated third weekend commitment and accommodating three holidays per year.
Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.
Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes. Distributes meals and beverages, takes vital signs, and collects lab specimens.
Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, sets up and primes IV tubing, 12-lead ECG, simple tracheostomy and care, changes dressings, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound cultures.
Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up.
Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures.
Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights.
Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.
Other department specific duties as assigned.
**Position Requirements**
**Minimum Education:**
**Preferred:** High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
**Minimum Experience:**
**Required:** Less than one year of previous job-related experience
**Preferred:** 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
**Licensure/Certifications:**
**Required:** Certified Nurse Assistant, BLS (Basic Life Support) through AHA
**Other:** Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program. Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position.

Job Description
The Patient Care Technician:
- Performs various activities in the treatment and care of patients, including routine hygiene care, ingestion of food and fluids, elimination of body wastes, mobilization, and dressing/undressing.
- Performs and records routine technical tasks as authorized, such as collecting routine specimens, taking vital signs, collecting and recording intake and output and blood glucose, giving suppositories, performing intermittent catheterization, measuring bladder volume, hanging gastric feedings, and escorting patients.
- Collects and reports pertinent physiological, psychological, and functional data based on patient plan of care or patient need.
- Orients the patient and family to the environment, therapeutic activities, and potential safety hazards and prevention strategies as identified by the registered nurse.
- Incorporates factors related to safety into delivery of patient care as directed by the registered nurse.
- Implements interventions consistent with the plan of care as directed by a registered nurse.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
