Responsibilities
The Electronics Technician will execute comprehensive responsibilities across multiple technical domains including Analyzer systems, Control systems, Instrumentation, and Electrical equipment, ensuring the consistent performance and safety of plant operations.
- Analyzer Support: Maintain and calibrate process and environmental analyzers on a continuous basis including hydrocarbon and CO detectors. Utilize SAP for documenting maintenance activities and parts management. Collaborate in the development of procedures to enhance operational safety and efficiency. Support analytical systems specialists on project implementations and participate in comprehensive process safety reviews.
- Control Systems Maintenance: Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), including equipment such as Delta V, Modicon, and Triconex. Lead execution of Instrumented Protective System (IPS) maintenance to preserve system reliability. Assist in control loop troubleshooting and collaborate with contractors during plant expansions. Support software programming adjustments and electronic repair activities on critical control modules.
- Instrumentation Services: Execute precision repairs and calibrations on a variety of process instruments including flow, pressure, level, and temperature transmitters alongside differential pressure measurement devices. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on pneumatic and digital valve controllers, control valves, and measurement switches. Conduct root cause analysis to recommend improvements enhancing reliability and process performance.
- Electrical Systems Expertise: Comply with all health, safety, and environmental standards while performing maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment up to 138kV. Install and troubleshoot electrical components such as conduits, wires, motor starters, variable frequency drives, UPS systems, and motors. Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical motor controls and related power distribution systems to ensure optimal function.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least three years of instrumentation experience within an industrial or heavy commercial environment complemented by one of the following: an Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology, or certification/diploma from a recognized trade school.
- Proficient in using diagnostic and calibration tools such as TREX instruments, meters, and pumps.
- Experience troubleshooting and installing control valves and Coriolis meters.
- Skilled in programming and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) including brands like Triconex, Allen Bradley, and Modicon, as well as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) including Honeywell, DeltaV, and Yokogawa.
- Familiarity with Siemens Gas Chromatographs, Yokogawa gas and sample systems, and oxygen and hydrocarbon detection equipment.
- Three years of medium to high voltage electrical experience in industrial or heavy commercial settings, with qualifications such as an Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology, Level II NETA or higher certification, or Journeyman Electrician License.
- Ability to diagnose and localize circuit, component, and equipment faults and experience with motor starter and switchgear troubleshooting for both AC and DC systems.
- Knowledge of programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Hands-on experience with rebuilding and maintaining control valves to ensure optimal performance.
- Understanding of ladder logic programming and control system design principles.
- Basic coding skills, supporting system configuration and automation enhancements.
- Proven track record delivering multiple complex control programs and projects on schedule.
- Familiarity with industrial process engineering concepts and their application to control systems.
- Knowledge of protective relays, including their function, data extraction procedures, troubleshooting methodologies, and alarm diagnosis techniques (first-out alarm analysis).
