PLANT MAINTENANCE MANAGER

As a leader of the Engineering & Maintenance team, the Plant Maintenance Manager will be responsible to coordinate and direct the design, planning, construction, maintenance, project management and alteration of processes, equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities by performing the following duties personally through subordinate salaried staff and maintenance technicians.

* Oversee and direct the maintenance staff to achieve machine availability and other production and quality KPIs.

Position Purpose
Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work involving the maintenance, repair and overhaul of specialized plant and pumping station machinery and equipment including performance of minor electrical maintenance and machinist duties.
Major Duties

  1. Troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
  2. Repairs and maintains diesel and other internal combustion engines, pumps, valves, generators, air compressors, and related plant equipment.
  3. Installs, maintains, and repairs chemical feed pumps and associated equipment.
  4. Operates machine tools (lathe, milling machine, drill press) and performs welding (Stick, MIG, TIG) to fabricate, repair, or assemble equipment and parts.
  5. Operates plant equipment and utilizes specialized tools to perform assigned tasks.
  6. Maintains tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe conditions.
  7. Leads and trains other employees in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and safety equipment; oversees task completion.
  8. Prepares and maintains accurate work records, logs, and service reports.
  9. Ensure compliance with preventative maintenance schedules, following established procedures and documenting work performed.
  10. Installs, maintains, and repairs steam heating systems.
  11. Performs plumbing repairs on facility water, wastewater and drain lines.
  12. Monitors equipment repair trends and resource needs by reporting increased use of parts and maintenance hours and researches parts and supplies to support purchasing and budgeting recommendations.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Vocational/technical training in industrial electrical/mechanical maintenance preferred.

  • Possession of a valid Industrial Forklift Operator Certification and Aerial Lift Certification at time of hire; or ability to obtain both certifications within one (1) year of hire. Certifications must be maintained in good standing for duration of employment.
  • Proficiency in machinist tasks, including part fabrication, and skilled in electric and gas welding and cutting methods.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems, welding principles, and safe work practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, and blueprints; capable of designing and engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Experience in lead worker responsibilities.
  • Ability to obtain overhead crane certification as part of the normal progression of the position, to be completed within twenty-four (24) months of hire.
  • Basic computer literacy with ability to learn Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and maintenance software.

Working Conditions
Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a water treatment facility and involves frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts. Duties may occasionally require working at heights, outdoors in varying weather conditions, or in confined spaces with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; and the risk of electrical shock. Work may also involve the use of vibrating tools. Protective equipment such as Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, respirators, masks, goggles, and gloves may be required. Each day, you'll play a key role in keeping our plant running at its best, maintaining everything from balers and conveyor belts to gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings. As an Industrial Mechanic, you'll jump into action when systems fail, using your skills to quickly identify and fix issues, ensuring everything is back up and running safely and efficiently. Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, you'll help drive the success of our operations, ensuring the plant runs smoothly and safely at all times.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PM) and diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment and components, including balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy currents, electro-magnetic belts, optical sorters, diverters, compressors, trash compactors, motors, glass breakers, wire tie systems, fans, pumps, forklifts, front-end loaders, and building equipment.

  • Maintain the Daily Equipment Inspections (DEI) backlog.

  • Adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and inform the Sr. Plant Maintenance Manager if additional work is needed or cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).

  • Inspect the quality of third-party repairs and rebuilds.

  • Recommend improvements to enhance production, equipment performance, and product quality.

  • Multitask and manage multiple priorities with efficiency.

  • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.

  • Perform work with limited supervision while maintaining high standards of performance.

  • Be flexible with your work schedule, which may include nights and weekends to meet operational needs.

Each day, you'll play a key role in keeping our plant running at its best, maintaining everything from balers and conveyor belts to gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings. As an Industrial Mechanic, you'll jump into action when systems fail, using your skills to quickly identify and fix issues, ensuring everything is back up and running safely and efficiently. You'll work with cutting-edge equipment and tackle challenges that require both expertise and determination. Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, you'll help drive the success of our operations, ensuring the plant runs smoothly and safely at all times.
**Here's more of what you'll do:**
+ Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PM) and diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment and components, including balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy currents, electro-magnetic belts, optical sorters, diverters, compressors, trash compactors, motors, glass breakers, wire tie systems, fans, pumps, forklifts, front-end loaders, and building equipment.
+ Maintain the Daily Equipment Inspections (DEI) backlog.
+ Adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and inform the Sr. Plant Maintenance Manager if additional work is needed or cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
+ Inspect the quality of third-party repairs and rebuilds.
+ Recommend improvements to enhance production, equipment performance, and product quality.
+ Multitask and manage multiple priorities with efficiency.
+ Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
+ Perform work with limited supervision while maintaining high standards of performance.
+ Be flexible with your work schedule, which may include nights and weekends to meet operational needs.
+ Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA standards and ensure all work is completed according to safety procedures.
+ Perform repairs in line with Waste Management Safety, Life Critical Rules, and OSHA requirements.

• Participate in safety and other meetings.
