The Postdoctoral Scholar works at the interface of pangenomics and telomere-to-telomere (T2T) genomes. This position studies nuclear-mitochondrial segments (NUMTs) and their functional consequences using the BXD mouse population.

  • Develops tools for telomere-telomere pangenomics in the BXD, AD-BXD, and UM-Het3 mouse populations.

  • Detects NUMTs, and identifies their functional consequences on mitochondria, aging and inflammation.

  • Research as part of long-term, multi-institutional, collaborations using the BXD family of mice, and the AD-BXD Alzheimer's disease model.

  • Develops tools to identify links between NUMTs and longevity, and part of this new project will be to elucidate the pathway by which this association takes place.

  • Develops and deploys a web-based app to collect and share mouse longevity data to the community.

  • Identifies novel genetic associations with lifespan in mice.

  • Writes journal articles, book chapters, grant proposals and progress reports.

  • Presents research results at conferences and seminars.

We invite applications for a PostDoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Geography at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder). The position is supported by a newly funded project aimed at developing advanced computational methods to extract historical geographic information from digital archived maps, and approaches to implement these spatio-temporal data in novel scientific studies of human-environment interactions. This project will extract spatial road network data from historical USGS data originally published between 1884 and 2006 and integrate the extracted spatio-temporal data in research on the impact of transportation infrastructure on urban and economic development and environmental processes. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to collaborate in developing spatially explicit machine learning approaches and/or applying image processing or computer vision techniques to explore innovative ways to understand geographical data and extract useful information from the data. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to lead efforts in data evaluation and demonstrate how the extracted information in combination with other historical data from historical maps or property-level data can be utilized in scientific studies to advance knowledge of human interactions with their environment over extended time periods.
The position can start as early as June 2025 or as soon as possible. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second-year contingent on satisfactory performance and fund availability. Position Summary:
The Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University welcomes applications for one postdoctoral fellow in the in the field of child welfare for a two-year, 12-month position at the Boca Raton, Florida Campus. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2026.
In 2024, The U.S. News and World Report ranked Florida Atlantic No. 22 in the United States in terms of "Social Mobility," and in 2025, the University attained the prestigious R1 (research-intensive) university ranking by Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
This fellowship is devoted to research, and the scholar will primarily work with faculty affiliates of the Sandler School of Social Work Child Welfare Institute. This fellowship offers innovative research training and experience with faculty who are currently engaged in state-funded research, community-engaged, and secondary data analysis of child welfare data. The Sandler School of Social Work is particularly interested in applicants who can complement existing faculty research, as well as contribute their own expertise. There will be considerable opportunity for the postdoctoral scholar to participate in developing and implementing research projects, project coordination, recruitment, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.
The fellow will further research and training agendas through formal mentorship and coursework, seminars, conferences, and other career development activities. The fellow will have a primary mentor assisted by other mentors in a team approach. The fellow will work with established investigators on research projects and be expected to prepare and submit manuscripts for publication, present at local and national conferences, and develop and submit at least one grant proposal by the end of the fellowship term. The fellow will utilize community-based participatory research methods and population health science. The fellow will implement evidence-based interventions and/or produce scientific evidence with the goals of increasing health care access and educational outcomes and reducing disparities in behavioral risk factors among children and youth.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Conduct independent and collaborative research in child welfare, with a focus on children, parents, caregivers, or professionals involved with or impacted by child welfare or foster care.
+ Analyze data, interpret findings, and prepare research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
+ Assist with ongoing grant-funded projects, including data collection, management, and analysis.
+ Prepare grant proposals and participate in the development of future funding applications, including identifying funding sources and assisting with proposal writing.
+ Present research findings at academic conferences and other relevant forums.
+ Collaborate with faculty, research staff, and community partners on child welfare research initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Social Work or a closely related field with a focus on child welfare or related areas or be enrolled in an accredited doctoral degree program and fulfill all degree requirements prior to program entry.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting child welfare research, including study design, data collection, and analysis.
- Strong publication record (or evidence of potential to publish) in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience or demonstrated potential in writing grant proposals and securing external funding.
- Proficiency with quantitative and/or qualitative analysis and methodology.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and in collaborative research teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS) and qualitative analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti).

In collaboration with and under the mentorship of the Principle Investigator (PI), a Research Fellow engages in activities that will further his or her professional development.

**- As a member of the research team, actively pursues research under the supervision of a principal investigator while developing skills for independent work. (essential)**
**- Receives training in and performs duties contributing to the investigational work of the team including formulation of research questions and design, conduct of experiments, and evaluation of results. (essential)**
**- Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under direction of PI. (essential)**
**- Develops expertise in desired lab skills/informatics/ physics/clinical research. Develops proficiency with research tools and equipment. Develops ability to work with more independence as the fellowship progresses (essential)**
**- Develops new ideas that promote current research; brings new expertise to the research program. (essential)**
**- teaching skills and provide supervision of students and their projects when appropriate. (essential)**

**0-1 year of postdoctoral research experience in academic or industrial lab setting, and/or teaching assistantship in a university setting, and/or residency, and/or clinical duties beyond that of the qualifying doctoral degree.**

**Decision Making:** **Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.**
**Problem Solving:** **Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.**
