About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will design, develop, and implement automation control systems for various industrial processes and warehouse distribution equipment. This role requires a strong background in engineering principles, programming languages, and control system technologies. This role will focus on maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance of equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs. Follows all necessary policies and procedures, especially related to safety.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Site technical expert in automation control systems.
  • Train and mentor Automation Apprentices to ensure compliance with all company and client safety and technical training requirements.
  • Design and develop control systems and software programs. Implement and optimize automation processes. Maintain and troubleshoot control systems and machinery.
  • Enforce and follow a strict documentation process for all automation processes and programs. Must adhere to clients Automation Change Management procedures.
  • Work closely with client teams such as building Operations, and various Engineering, Continuous improvement and other support teams to drive MHE systems optimization and project implementation.
  • Understand, maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, ASi bus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations for system performance issues and provide analysis across all operations.
  • Act as the first level of escalation support to both site technician and automation engineers professionals, during and after business hours, troubleshooting locally and remotely and repair all controls hardware and software systems within the building.
  • Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors and senior leadership for support to restore equipment operation.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes and implement process improvements or retraining to avoid future incidents.
  • Routinely assess material handling system performance and drive continuous improvement projects that deliver improved system performance and cost savings to the client.
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines with building leadership, operations and the Reliability and Maintenance Engineering team. Explain production impacts and partner with operations to identify, develop and enforce operational work-around procedures in the event of system failures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent OR 2+ years of equivalent professional experience on account.
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
  • 2+ years of experience with PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis in a continuous process or production environment.
  • 2+ years of experience with robotics work cells and its control systems
  • 2+ years of experience with Ladder Logic and structure programming from Siemens, Allen-Brady, or Codesys PLCs
  • Experience acting in a team lead capacity that supports, trains, and mentors less experienced automation engineering professionals
  • Advanced proficiency in verbal and written English
  • 2+ years of experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, automated equipment
  • Ability to interpret and understand policies and procedures and relate them to others.
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Adaptability and continuous learning to keep up with industry trends
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders (Operations, Safety, etc.) to coordinate complex maintenance activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent and 2+ years of equivalent professional experience.

  • 2+ years of experience interpreting, modifying, and developing mechanical and electrical drawings

  • Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors and senior leadership for support to restore equipment operation.

  • 2+ years of experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying Motor Controls including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components
  • 2+ years of experience of industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems
  • 2+ years of experience interpreting, modifying, and developing mechanical and electrical drawings
  • 2+ years of experience identifying, maintaining, and utilizing SCADA systems and KPIs
  • 2+ years of experience with programming software such as RSLogix5000 studio, FT View, and other controls software platforms
  • 2+ years of experience in controls design or programming experience

  • 2+ years of field service engineering experience systems trainer or training experience

CESI also designs, builds and runs infrastructure, platforms, applications and processes that enable cyber training for the integrated multi-domain force. Our vision is to become a worldwide full spectrum LVCG and cyber training/analysis developer, integrator and services provider.

Position Overview

CESI is seeking a highly motivated candidate to support the development, operation and maintenance of DevSecOps processes, tools and an automation pipeline to support an emerging Cyber training program for the Department of Defense (DOD). Candidates will:

    Support traditional application software development, integration of third party applications and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts and software.
  • Provide overarching technical support for a variety of development teams that results in a cohesive, functional system that is maintainable and can be deployed across a variety of connected and disconnected environments.
  • Ensure the DevSecOps environment facilitates designing, implementing, deploying, and executing automated tests, and continually investigate new technologies to improve productivity, quality, ease of use and maintenance.
  • Collect, process, and present information and metrics to show automation improvements or degradations over time.
  • Balance hybrid cloud distribution between private clouds, corporate infrastructure, and public clouds.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform many duties involving DevSecOps functions including, but not limited to, authoring and maintaining automation deployment and monitoring scripts, developing and maintaining security controls and systems, managing virtualized and containerized assets, creating virtual and physical network configurations, servers, communications, and test and developer engineering support.
  • Support the design, integration, test and initial deployment of a variety of applications in an enterprise Kubernetes environment using modern tools and patterns.
  • Be a results-oriented contributor within a team of engineers focused on providing an automated DevSecOps environment and supporting the automation of all aspects of system configuration and deployment.
  • Must be able to author and maintain scripts in a variety of languages.
  • Administer and utilize the overarching configuration management tools and processes to ensure efficient and accurate tracking of baselines.
  • Analyze real world problems and implement solutions that leverage industry best practices and improve the productivity across a multi-functional technical team.

Desired Job Functions:

  • Assist all components of the team that contribute to or utilize the system baseline in efficient use of the DevSecOps processes and tools.
  • Troubleshoot capabilities to diagnose system problems; analyze hardware and software functionality; identify, locate, resolve and repair problems. Document and present performance records and results.
Required Experience/Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline such as computer science or information technology from an accredited college or university.
  • 9+ years of related professional work experience
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps, DevOps, or IT or Security automation supporting multiple teams.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement DevSecOps using private and commercial cloud best practices.
  • Strong experience with the Linux OS.
  • Experience with private and hybrid cloud design/operation/monitoring/deployment:
    • VMware vCenter and ESXi, generally maintained at the most current version.
    • Practical knowledge of Kubernetes and general containerization development, security, deployment and management practices
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn VMware Orchestrator to automate deployment and destruction of virtual machine, network, and other virtualized assets in VMware environments.
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn Amazon Web Services.
  • Ability to manage enterprise web services.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Support documentation of DevSecOps and related technologies including the creation of system and process diagrams.
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Professionally convey system-wide performance information routinely via tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Interact with developers to understand software changes that will impact development and testing activities, examine any relevant change implementation, then report the changes to developers and testers welcoming feedback for future improvements.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications
  • Certifications or work towards a certification in this professional area are a plus.
