The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering are seeking candidates for multiple positions of Principal Research Scientist/Engineer in anticipation of securing contract funding in multiple areas of engineering and science to include fields such as modeling and simulation; systems engineering and integration; cyber security engineering; critical infrastructure protection; advanced manufacturing; additive manufacturing; materials science and engineering; assured position, navigation and timing; propulsion systems and project management on multiple programs funded by government and private industry.
These positions will be located in Auburn, Alabama and will report to the Associate Dean for Research, College of Engineering. The successful candidates may also work with leaders of other units such as Auburn's McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security, Cyber Research Center, National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence, and the Huntsville Research Center to identify and develop potential research sponsors in the strategic focus areas of Auburn University research.
Major responsibilities include providing technical expertise, through the various Auburn programs in subjects such as those listed above directly to government and industry sponsors.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to subjects such as cyber security threats and subsequent threat mitigation strategies and methods.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to protecting the nation's critical infrastructure systems (energy, water, transportation, food, commerce, etc.).
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to industry and government sponsors in the broad areas of modeling, simulation, and systems engineering and integration.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, and advanced materials.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to vehicle dynamics and assured position, navigation, and timing.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise toNASA and industry senior leaders in payload integration including requirement definition and verification / validation of potential exploration payloads.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise toNASA and industry senior leaders in development and integration of NASA's launch vehicles and exploration programs.
Collaborate with the nation's community of industry, government, and academia on national policy and technology that affects various defense, aerospace, manufacturing, and related industry sectors along with federal, state, and local government agencies.
**Essential Functions**

The individual in this position will assist with the AU agriculture drone project for the department of Crop, Soils, & Environmental Sciences.

ReLogic Research, Inc. is seeking a self-starting, highly motivated, mechanical engineer for a part-time position at ReLogic. ReLogics central focus is to continually promote a culture that stimulates personal, professional, and intellectual growth, while developing elegant solutions to tough problems. This Mechanical Engineer role will be in direct support of ReLogics efforts to solve priority problems highly aligned with our national defense strategy, while also supporting research activities with the National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME) at Auburn University as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA).
This position is a hybrid part-time role to provide industry experience and training in the defense sector, while the candidate pursues a masters in mechanical engineering at Auburn University. In addition to the part time position at ReLogic, the assistantship provides additional benefits through Auburn University such as monthly stipend and tuition waiver, pending acceptance by Auburn. The primary work location is in Auburn, AL to perform research activities at NCAME and complete the required graduate coursework, while supporting ReLogic activities remotely. Some travel to Huntsville, AL to support ReLogic activities is required.
About NCAME: NCAME is setting a new standard in Additive Manufacturing (AM) qualification research. Founded in 2017 through a collaboration between Auburn University and NASA leveraged by a signed AU/NASA Space Act Agreement, the Center is also a founding partner of the ASTM Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE). NCAME strives to be a transitioning mechanism from fundamental to applied research aligned with the needs of industry. We also aim to lead and foster effective collaborations amongst industry, government, academia, non-profit organizations, and ASTM committees to ensure a coordinated, global effort toward rapidly closing standards and workforce development gaps in AM. Both centers have vast membership networks with 100+ members within key industrial sectors, including among others GE, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Aerojet and Rocketdyne.
Primary Responsibilities
Focus Areas: Hypersonics, Tactical Missile Systems, Advanced Manufacturing
Perform research activities at NCAME spanning the entire AM value chain, including feedstock, AM fabrication, mechanical testing, materials characterization, non-destructive evaluation, simulations, and more.
Interface with NCAME research sponsors and collaborators in academia and industry
Operate various additive and testing equipment as part of research activities at NCAME, including L-PBF and DED additive machines, mechanical test stands, scanning electron microscope or X-ray microscope, or sample preparation equipment
Develop written reports, briefings, and other documentation to present to internal ReLogic and customer POCs
Work with ReLogic team members, technical managers, and subject matter experts to develop testing, design, and analysis skills relevant to high-speed missile and aviation technology
Requirements & Desired Skills
Be enrolled in the graduate engineering program at Auburn University
BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
Knowledge or understanding of additive manufacturing, mechanical testing, and materials characterization
Active Secret security clearance or ability to receive and maintain clearance
Strong work ethic and high attention to detail
This is part-time position with no fringe benefits offered. Approximately 10% travel is expected.
