Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the area of general surgery and would provide Trauma coverage seven days a month.
Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed general surgery residency program. Successful candidates must be board certified/eligible in general surgery. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
This role is part of a General Surgery team and, although primarily at one location, acts as a unit to support the Northern Region as needed. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
2. Must possess current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided:
MD: Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians
OH: Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health
PA: No state licensure required
WV: Radiography License or Temporary Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
3. Must be Nationally certified as defined by location where services will be provided:
MD: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire
OH: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire
PA: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 12 months of hire.
WV: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 6 months of hire.
4. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

1. Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills. (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
2. Performs image procedures based on assessment of the status of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols. Monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision.
3. Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving.
4. Select exposure factors based on patient's size, condition, and pathology resulting in optimal image quality, utilizing minimal radiation exposure.
5. Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients and other staff by the use of shielding, collimation, application of the inverse square law, and minimizing repeat exposures.
6. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care / safety.
7. Assesses patient's needs and provides imaging related to comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and provides support accordingly.
8. Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays; which are utilized for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
9. Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
10. Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
11. Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, and cost effective patient care.
12. Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
13. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
14. Completes all in-services and competencies by the required date and applies knowledge gained.
15. Position patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.
16. Participates in coordination of daily work flow.
17. Minimal instruction of radiology students in the clinical setting with regard to patient positioning, technique selection, manipulation of equipment and the use of accessory devices to obtain Radiographic images. Provides clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the Radiology program and its respective accrediting bodies.
18. Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
19. Medical assisting duties as assigned.

Summary:
WVU Medicine's Northern Region Hospitals are seeking an APP ( NP or PA-C) to support the General Surgery team with primary practice at Reynolds/Wetzel/Barnesville/Harrison. The Advance Practice Professional (APP) is an individual with clinical/surgical expertise. The APP completes comprehensive patient health evaluations (including biological, social and psychological assessments) in collaboration with the appropriate clinical/faculty team. The APP assesses, and coordinates the educational and psychosocial needs of the surgery patient and caretakers. The APP develops and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, and coordinates discharge planning (as applicable) and appropriate post hospital follow up. - Master's Degree in Nursing with certification as an advanced practice registered nurse required.

- Successful completion of AORN accredited CNOR program and CNOR certification for Surgical First Assist
For Physician Assistant:

2.2 Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.

Summary:
WVU Medicine's Northern Region Hospitals are seeking an APP ( NP or PA-C) to support the General Surgery team with primary practice at Reynolds/Wetzel/Barnesville/Harrison. The Advance Practice Professional (APP) is an individual with clinical/surgical expertise. The APP completes comprehensive patient health evaluations (including biological, social and psychological assessments) in collaboration with the appropriate clinical/faculty team. The APP assesses, and coordinates the educational and psychosocial needs of the surgery patient and caretakers. The APP develops and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, and coordinates discharge planning (as applicable) and appropriate post hospital follow up. The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students and performs diagnostic procedures and therapeutic procedures. The APP participates in all aspects of the global management of the surgical patient throughout the system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Experience, Licensure:
For Nurse Practitioner:
- Master's Degree in Nursing with certification as an advanced practice registered nurse required.
- Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advance Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia required
- Certification by a nationally recognized Advance Practice Nursing Certification body required
- Successful completion of AORN accredited CNOR program and CNOR certification for Surgical First Assist
For Physician Assistant:
- Bachelor's Degree as a Medical/Surgical (as applicable) Physician Assistant is the minimum degree required. Masters level education as Medical/Surgical (as applicable) Physician Assistant preferred.
- Graduate of an AARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program required.
- Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine.

1.0 Manages comprehensive and individualized care for surgery patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization, and in the ambulatory care arena (as applicable).
1.1 Completes daily rounds and/or pre-procedure evaluations, and participates in
consults for surgery as needed throughout the system
1.2 Participates in the peri-operative management of surgery patients; which includes (but is not limited to) first assisting in surgery
1.3 Completes integrated assessments.
1.4 With the collaboration of surgery faculty or by following established clinical guidelines and protocols, orders additional tests or consults.
1.5 Performs, interprets and communicates results of diagnostic tests in the outpatient and hospital setting.
1.6 Consults and communicates with surgery clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
1.7 Performs history and physical examinations and documents findings in medical
record.
1.8 Facilitates patient discharge be coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to
scheduled outpatient follow-up appointments in the surgery clinic (as applicable).
1.9 Performs necessary procedures following established clinical guidelines and Protocols for vascular surgery and scope of practice (SOP).
2.0 Manages comprehensive and individualized care through the inpatient and immediate post-discharge phase of the patient's hospitalization experience and in the outpatient setting. (as applicable).
2.1 Develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for surgery patients, which includes teaching, discharge, and follow-up planning and necessary referral to other members of the health care team as necessary.
2.2 Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
2.3 Participates in physician rounds, and consultations as applicable
2.4 Identifies unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention in the clinic and/or hospital setting.
2.5 Facilitates patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to scheduled outpatient follow up appointments (as applicable).
2.6 Evaluates patients in the outpatient setting. Acts as a coordinator for follow up procedures and tests in the outpatient setting (as applicable).
2.7 While in the clinic setting, assists in the collection of outcome measures (as applicable).
2.8 Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation and management of the individual needs of patients/families.
2.9 Demonstrates the ability to utilize basic equipment in a safe manner.
2.10 Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care.
2.11 Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings.
3.0 Utilizes teaching/learning theory and appropriate teaching strategies in the provision of education to nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families, and the community.
3.1 Promotes an environment that facilitates learning by responding to appropriate Patient/family preferences, priorities and readiness to learn.
3.2 Evaluates the effectiveness of the surgery patient/family teaching and collaborates with the nursing and clinical staff in the completion of education plan.
3.3 Updates own knowledge base throughout the year.
3.4 Completes all identified clinical competencies.
3.5 Serves as a resource person for staff caring for the patient.
3.6 Provides educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel in
area of expertise.
3.7 Mentors nursing personnel in all levels of clinical practice.

4.0 Communicates effectively with patients/families, physicians and ancillary services at all levels to assure coordinated efficient patient care.
