Responsibilities The Director Employee Health is responsible for directing and coordinating the overall activities, daily operations, and administration of Employee Health Services at University Hospital. The Director is an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) who has a collaborative practice agreement with a physician and is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. The Director is accountable for assuring quality medical care to UH employees by overseeing and performing comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, as well as addressing the behavioral aspects of illness and disease. The Director supervises the staff of Employee Health Services and ensures that all personnel working at University Hospital are in compliance with Federal, State, Local, TJC, New Jersey State Department of Health, and all other regulatory agency requirements, standards, and regulations. The Director Employee Health is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competencies. Qualifications Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey and Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey required. A Master's Degree is required. Five (5) years of related nursing experience is required, including three (3) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse. At least one (1) year of supervisory/management experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrates effective leadership competencies in order to manage the day-to-day activities of the department. Experience with Worker’s Compensation, Employee Health Screening, and FMLA protocols is preferred. BLS (CPR) is required. ACLS is preferred. Computer literacy is required. Credential required: Current NJ License and Registration, Certified as an APN by the Board of Nursing, BLS Certification. Staff physicians provide primary care to patients in jail-based clinics, perform intake evaluation and treatment and provide emergency care with the support of Emergency Medicine physicians.

- Completes comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnose and treating acute and chronic illness
- Evaluates the need for consult services and submitting the prioritized consult when indicated
- Reviews all on island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluates the recommendations to ensure that the standard of care is met and implements the recommendations of the consultant
- Responds to emergencies and fire drills on a priority basis and in a timely and professional manner
- Be familiar with performance indicators (P.I.) and taking appropriate measures to comply with these standards
- Requests radiology exams, lab-tests, and EKG’s when indicated and interpreting these results in conjunction with the patient’s clinical status

- Generates medical modifications as needed
- Maintains clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature and C.M.E.’s
- Provides clinical supervision for P.A.’s/N.P.’s which includes co-signing of notes and medication orders

- Adhere to policies and procedures of CHS and be familiar with them by reviewing them as needed

Qualifications
- Registered to practice medicine in the State of New York and have Federal DEA, BCLS or ACLS, and Infection Control Certification

Summary:
This position is a key part of developing, expanding, and maintaining the Health Services programs. The Health Services Patient Advocate is responsible for the maintenance of relationships with the 5 Star Centers, supporting the operations of the Health Fund Programs, responding to member and provider issues, and assisting members in choosing in-network providers, particularly 5 Star Centers. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with management and administrative staff at assigned 5 Star Center, including site visits
- Assist members in choosing providers and scheduling appointments at 5 Star Centers
- Assist with issue resolution as problems arise for assigned 5 Star Centers from initial inquiry through completion
- Log member issues into the department tracking system
- Assist members and act as advocates during complaint process with providers
- Identify any patterns of fund program issues with service provision and address accordingly or notify management
- Address member concerns about Fund programs
- Complete all program enrollment processes for eligible, interested members
- Utilize Health Services Database to track interactions related to Fund programs
- Work with members and the Providers to determine the correct copay and rectify all billing errors
- Assist members to identify in-network specialists related to specific needs

Administrative Functions
- Receive incoming calls through the Health Services queue regarding Health Services Programs
- Back up member services provider line queue upon request for provider search activity

Staff physicians provide primary care to patients in jail based clinics, perform intake evaluation and treatment and provide emergency care with the support of Emergency Medicine physicians.
The healthcare system is a single-payer system that requires no physician time dedicated to billing. No administrative work is expected outside of work hours, promoting career/life balance.
Physicians work as part of a care delivery team with strong administrative support staff, integrated nursing and mental health.
Responsibilities
- Completes comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnose and treating acute and chronic illness
- Evaluates the need for consult services and submitting the prioritized consult when indicated
- Reviews all on island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluates the recommendations to ensure that the standard of care is met and implements the recommendations of the consultant
- Responds to emergencies and fire drills on a priority basis and in a timely and professional manner
- Be familiar with performance indicators (P.I.) and taking appropriate measures to comply with these standards
- Requests radiology exams, lab-tests, and EKG’s when indicated and interpreting these results in conjunction with the patient’s clinical status
- Notifying Urgicare for 3 hour/EMS runs
- Generates medical modifications as needed
- Maintains clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature and C.M.E.’s
- Provides clinical supervision for P.A.’s/N.P.’s which includes co-signing of notes and medication orders
- Ensure that standard of care is maintained
- Adhere to policies and procedures of CHS and be familiar with them by reviewing them as needed
- Attends all mandatory in-services
- Complies with and maintaining Employee Health requirements

Qualifications
- Registered to practice medicine in the State of New York and have Federal DEA, BCLS or ACLS, and Infection Control Certification
- Medical Specialty License or Certification

- Familiar with EHR

The psychiatric service strives to provide safe, holistic, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units (“mental observation units”) for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour outpatient-level clinic in each facility, substance use treatment, integrated re-entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Each of the 12 facilities in the jail system has unique patient population and environmental characteristics; each Psychiatrist will be matched with the population that most closely meets their clinical expertise and desired work location. Experience working in correctional settings is not required, however the ability to work closely and effectively with multiple other disciplines including security staff is critical.
- Provides psychiatric care, including admission evaluations, follow-ups and urgent and emergent consultations to individuals enrolled in the mental health service
- Provide consultation to non-prescribing mental health staff and medical staff about diagnosis, treatment and/or the need for psychiatric medication
- Participate in team meetings with the treatment staff, on a daily basis if working on a mental observation unit and on a weekly basis if working in one of the clinics
- Regularly participate in the creation of individual treatment plans for patients, and review plans already in place
- Evaluate patients for the need for a higher level of care, including hospitalizations. If a patient is hospitalized, maintain contact with the psychiatric staff to ensure continuity of care
- Document all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise and clear manner
- Provide clinical supervision as needed for psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants
- Engage in weekly clinical supervision with Psychiatric leadership
- Provide clinical supervision for Psychiatric volunteers (resident or fellow) as needed, including appropriate direct supervision and documentation of evaluation and feedback
