The Skilled HVAC Technician position is primarily responsible for the safe, comfortable, and economical operation of the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (H.V.A.C.), and plumbing systems throughout Cranbrook Educational Community and for the installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains boilers and related equipment.
- Prepares all boilers for summer inspection and accompanies an inspector on her/his rounds.
- Maintains plumbing for heating and cooling related equipment, including that associated with the hot water system, campus fountains, and the water wheel.
- Maintains ventilation and air conditioning systems.
- Maintains and repairs irrigation system (including water lines) controls back flow prevention equipment.
- Performs routine safety checks on all H.V.A.C. and plumbing equipment; repairs or replaces as necessary.
- Performs miscellaneous duties associated with H.V.A.C. and plumbing equipment; repairs or replaces as necessary.
- Performs miscellaneous duties associated with H.V.A.C. or plumbing work.
- Maintain and monitor inventory records for H.V.A.C. shops.
- Maintains boiler and water treatment.
- Responsible for the knowledge of asbestos abatement procedures.
- Must be aware of proper procedures to use when encountering suspected asbestos containing material to avoid personal exposure, contamination of job site, and exposure of facility occupants to asbestos.
- Installs and maintains DDC temperature control systems.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Minimum two years’ experience in mechanical, plumbing, heating, or related technical area.
- Must possess or attain Low Pressure Boiler License within one year in the position.
- Ability to obtain Asbestos Abatement Certificate.
- Must possess CFC (Refrigerant) Reclaiming License.
- Michigan Mechanical Contractors License in applicable classification(s) preferred.
- Monday – Friday, 11am – 7:30 pm
This is a full-time position with a base pay rate of $28.20 per hour plus a $.00/per hour shift premium for working the second shift. Total is 29.20/per hour.
