Job Description
The Trade Desk is a global technology company with a mission to create a better, more open internet for everyone through principled, intelligent advertising. Handling over 1 trillion queries per day, our platform operates at an unprecedented scale. We have also built something even stronger and more valuable: an award-winning culture based on trust, ownership, empathy, and collaboration. We value the unique experiences and perspectives that each person brings to The Trade Desk, and we are committed to fostering inclusive spaces where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work every day.
Do you have a passion for solving hard problems at scale? Are you eager to join a dynamic, globally- connected team where your contributions will make a meaningful difference in building a better media ecosystem? Come and see why Fortune magazine consistently ranks The Trade Desk among the best small- to medium-sized workplaces globally.
What we do:
You will have the opportunity to work with the team that is responsible for how we ship our software to production. This role will incorporate stakeholder needs across the engineering organization to drive positive improvements to our overall developer productivity and our release process and provide world class tooling for deployments to the TTD engineering team. You will own features end-to-end, and work on long-term strategic work to enhance existing features or tools and continuously improve efficiency of our deployment processes. This team works along with other teams focused on the remaining aspects of the SDLC lifecycle and hence you will be partnering with them to drive changes to our systems. Our system performs every day, 24/7, serving global traffic. We build a distributed system in a highly collaborative environment, utilizing a broad range of technologies. Our backend developers work on finding solutions to algorithmic, optimization, and scale challenges in everything we do.
What you'll do:
Some of the work that you will be doing to help us deliver on our mission is:
* Develop continuous deployment (CD) platform at scale. You're building this platform for anyone who wants to develop software across the company, not for one team or one project. This platform needs to be cloud native (CNCF standard), extensible, configurable, and makes the deployment process intuitive for anyone across the company.
* Build new features and components in our developer tools, processes, and services
* Improve existing features and components to increase efficiency across our engineering organization
* Review code from your peers and grow others through example, mentorship, and teaching
* Drive complex changes involving multiple components and complex systems run by other software engineers
* Build components and processes that are used by other engineers across the organization
* Leverage data to analyze opportunities and communicate the impact of your work on operational efficiency
* We are a global team with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. To complement this team, you will welcome ideas that are different from your own and be well versed in building from common ground to value, seek out, and foster invisible and visible dimensions of diversity.
Who you are:
Our culture is much deeper than just having fun together (though we do that well, too). Wetake pride in our engineers being trust-builders, generous givers, scrappy problem solvers, and gritty pursuers of excellence. You do not have to meet all the requirements below, butwe believe that people who meet most of them will have a higher likelihood of succeeding inthis role:
- You care deeply about improving developer experience, tools, and engineering processes
- You have 5+ years of software development engineering experience
- You have experience with using or extending ArgoCD, Argo Rollouts, Spinnaker, or any cloud native CI/CD platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- You have experience with cloud / virtualization environments (AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, et al)
- You have a Bachelor's/Master's level degree in computer science or relevant engineering-related field or equivalent experience. Not everyone has the same level of access to opportunities. What is most important to us is what and how you can contribute, which is why our consideration is not limited by the level of education you have
- You drive innovative solutions while being sensitive to the current needs and realities of your fellow engineers
- You have experience in leading and completing projects with a high degree of technical ambiguity
- You have experience of working with non-technical stakeholders
- You have additional nice-to-have experience in the following areas:
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), ideally both as a consumer and as someone who has enabled such solutions in their past roles
- Proficiency with a modern language such as C# or Java or Golang or Python
- Experience working in large codebases, organizing and refactoring
- Experience with configuration management
A variety of technical opportunities is one of the best things about working at The Trade Desk as a software engineer, which is why we do not expect you to know every technology we use when you start.

Come and see why Fortune magazine consistently ranks The Trade Desk among the best small- to medium-sized workplaces globally.
Our Software Engineers are end-to-end owners who have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of designing, building, and delivering data-focused products for our stakeholders.
At The Trade Desk, we believe in building the back-end infrastructure of our platform with a focus on quality at scale. This means whether we are building parts of our client-facing applications, internal custom solutions for our own team members, or model pipelines for bidding optimizations, we are making sure that we have infrastructure, development, and tools to do it right and efficiently.
Our system performs all day, every day serving global traffic. We build a distributed system in a highly collaborative environment, utilizing a broad range of technologies. Our back-end developers work on finding solutions to algorithmic, optimization and scale challenges in everything we do.
What we do
You'll be joining a dedicated team focused on building internal-facing AI solutions that support teams across The Trade Desk. We leverage technologies like large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic tools to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and eliminate friction in everyday processes. Our work emphasizes high-quality, scalable applications that deliver measurable value and improve day-to-day operations across the company.
As an AI Software Engineer on this team, you'll be an end-to-end owner-collaborating closely with stakeholders, identifying opportunities, and delivering tools that make a real impact. We're a nimble, fast-paced, and highly collaborative group that thrives on transforming the way teams operate and driving greater value across The Trade Desk.
What you'll do:
Some of the work that you will be doing to help us deliver on our mission is:
- Design and deploy intelligent agentic systems that integrate large language models (LLMs) with enterprise data, tools, and workflows using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, and Semantic Kernel.
- Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) applications using tools like Azure AI Search, vector databases, and secure enterprise connectors to deliver contextual insights.
- Build and iterate on conversational agents that solve real-world problems, meet stakeholder needs, and deliver measurable business value.
- Deliver high-impact features by collaborating across teams, leading through ambiguity, and aligning technical solutions with business goals.
- Drive quality and performance through automated testing, monitoring, and data-driven evaluation of success criteria, user adoption, and operational efficiency.
- Mentor teammates and contribute to a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
We are a global team with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. To complement this team, you will welcome ideas that are different from your own and be well-versed in building from common ground to value, seek out, and foster invisible and visible dimensions of diversity.

- You have experience productionizing applications and implementing CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable, scalable deployments.
- You are skilled in data ingestion and transformation using APIs, ETL pipelines, and connectors, and familiar with vector databases and retrieval strategies.
- You communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences and thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- You are a fast learner who adapts quickly to new technologies and solves complex problems with creativity and pragmatism.

What we do
Our Senior Software Engineers are end-to-end owners who have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of designing, building, and delivering data-focused products for our stakeholders.
The Data Platform team is responsible for enabling the business to create powerful and efficient insights from data. In this role you will be working cross functionally with data engineers, data analysts, solution architects and business intelligence to design and implement optimized datasets that accelerate innovation. This team will also be responsible for building the framework and guardrails to make sure our datasets are high quality, compliant, and stable. Lastly you will be systemically identifying and implementing fundamental improvements to how we utilize data while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
We are a global team with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. To complement this team, you will welcome ideas that are different from your own and be well-versed in building from common ground to value, seek out, and foster invisible and visible dimensions of diversity.
At The Trade Desk, we believe that each opportunity to engage with consumers is unique. This means user experience can make or break our business - our users must have all the flexibility to harness our system's growing power and present meaningful insight from the petabytes of data streaming through our platform with unparalleled ease.
Our system performs all day, every day, serving global traffic. We deliver features to improve the clients' abilities to make real-time decisions and troubleshoot campaigns with simple-to-use interfaces and high-performance data interactions. We work in a highly collaborative environment with user experience and product management organizations to ensure consistent, modern designs as well as the right balance of requirements to improve the users' day-to-day lives. Our front-end developers work up and down the stack (client to server) to deliver these world-class experiences.
Whatyou'll do:
Some of the work that you will be doing to help us deliver on our mission:
- Shaping the vision and execution of how we manage data across its lifecycle - from curated internal datasets to powering production features or privacy-centric exports for external partners.
- Building solutions that will help enable data transparency throughout the org through establishing processing that improve our overall metadata and data lineage
- Designing and owning core, foundational datasets that reduce redundant and costly downstream transformations across the data ecosystem.
- Collaborating closely with Legal, Security, and Governance teams to ensure responsible and compliant usage of data as a steward of our internal data platform.
- Helping define and uphold standards for data quality, observability, and lineage to increase trust and traceability across the organization.
We are a global team with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. To complement this team, you will welcome ideas that are different from your own and be well-versed in building from common ground to value, seek out, and foster invisible and visible dimensions of diversity.
Who you are:
Our culture is much deeper than just having fun together (though, we do that well too.). We take pride in our engineers being trust-builders, generous givers, scrappy problem solvers, and gritty pursuers of excellence. You do not have to meet all the requirements below, but we believe that people who meet most of them will have a higher likelihood of succeeding in this role:
- You are a strong communicator. You're able to identify and build robust datasets that provides value to multiple functions
- You have a passion for making large scale systematic improvements
- You are an expert in building and tuning large scale data pipelines in Spark
- Experience building complex data pipelines in Airflow is a plus
- You have a sustained track record of leading engineers with a wide range of experience, while also making significant, self-directed, and end-to-end contributions to large and impactful software projects. You think beyond just the task at hand to deeply understand the 'why' behind what you & your team are doing.
- You are a driver. You will be driving technical projects and providing leadership in a ground-breaking and fast-paced environment. This includes task planning and conducting code reviews, as well as individual code contribution.
- You understand engineering fundamentals. At our scale, many off-the-shelf techniques and existing technologies (open source and enterprise) simply don't work.
- You are able to work from first principles to evaluate solutions and adapt them to a unique environment.
- You are a broadly skilled engineer, accustomed to developing web services. You have experience building always-on systems, working across a variety of technologies and service layers.
- You have a product-focused mindset. You have the passion and ability to contribute to the process of discovering what will delight our clients and push forward one of the world's largest and most influential industries toward a vision of openness, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making.
- You work with confidence and without ego. Our engineers have deep knowledge and exercise a high degree of leadership in their daily work. You have strongly-held, defensible ideas, and advocate for what you believe is right. You are also adept at identifying and evaluating trade-offs, willing to be proven wrong, and quick to walk through fire to support your fellow teammates.
- You value, seek out, and foster diversity. We are a global team from many diverse backgrounds, with different experiences and perspectives. To complement this team, you will welcome ideas that are different from your own and be skilled at finding and building from common ground.
- You are a creative thinker, not bound by "the way things have always been done". What you know is less important than how well you learn and innovate. We don't need engineers who know all the answers; we need engineers who can invent the answers no one has thought of yet, to the questions yet to be asked.
Variety of technical opportunity is one of the best things about working at The Trade Desk as a software engineer which is why we do not expect you to know every technology we use when you start. What we care about is that you can learn quickly and find solutions to complex problems using the optimum tools for the job. What you know is less important than how well you learn and innovate. We don't need engineers who know all the answers; we need engineers who can invent the answers no one has thought of yet, to the questions yet to be asked.
