We are a 48 bed high acuity ICU stepdown unit offering bedside cardiac care. Our patient care technicians (PCT's) provide patient care assistance in support of our nurses, for a specific subset of heart failure patients, those with LVADs. In addition, we provide care for open heart (CABG, valve repair, etc), heart transplant, kidney transplant, leg bypass, and a wide variety of CV's requiring chest tubes. Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Aid with movement and placement of patients.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintain medical equipment.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

As a Patient Care Technician, you will be part of the patient care team supporting individuals undergoing dialysis treatment. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a compassionate demeanor, and the ability to work collaboratively, which will align successfully in the organization.

Pay Range: Around $28/ hour - depending on experience

Shift: 8 hours per shift

What's the job?

Patient Care & Treatment:

• Greet and assess patients before and after dialysis sessions.
• Set up and operate hemodialysis machines, ensuring accurate programming and safety alarms.
• Perform vascular access evaluations, cannulation, and administer heparin as permitted.
• Monitor and document vital signs, treatment parameters, and patient responses.
• Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments per physician orders and protocols.
• Obtain lab specimens and ensure proper handling and documentation.

Education & Support:

• Assist in patient education on dialysis adequacy measures and treatment options.
• Support patients in understanding home dialysis modalities and transitional care processes.
• Monitor self-care patients under RN supervision.

Environment & Safety:

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized treatment area.
• Follow infection control protocols and participate in audits and education.
• Conduct machine safety checks and respond to unusual patient conditions.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Accurately complete treatment sheets, progress notes, and electronic records.
• Prepare patient charts, lab requisitions, and ensure proper documentation review.
• Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.

Transitional Care Unit (TCU):

• Support new patients during their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
• Coordinate care and education across disciplines.
• Assist with supply management and modality transitions.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of dialysis PCT experience within the last 2 years required.
• CPR Certified (BLS, ACLS) through an accredited institution
• Must meet CMS-approved certification requirements within designated timelines.
• CCHT or BONENT certified beneficial
• Commitment to ethical practices, organizational values, and customer service standards.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, bending, and lifting (up to 40 lbs).
• Exposure to healthcare environments and infectious materials.
• Must pass Ishihara Color Blindness test (does not preclude employment).
