The KPFF San Diego Office is accepting applications for a system administrator. We are looking for a motivated IT professional with a desire to be great, a solid system administrator background and a team-oriented mentality. In this role, the successful individual will protect our critical information, systems, and assets, build solutions, troubleshoot, implement new software and hardware, provide staff training, provide helpdesk support, and assist in the development of an overall IT strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with IT leadership on infrastructure improvements, automation initiatives, and cloud integration projects
  • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control for internal systems
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain Windows Server environments (on-premises and hybrid)
  • Oversee and support Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Intune)
  • Implement and manage security policies, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and conditional access
  • Monitor system performance, apply patches, and perform regular system audits
  • Manage backups, disaster recovery procedures, and documentation
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end-user devices, including laptops, desktops, printers, and applications
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues for users across the organization
  • Automate repetitive administrative tasks using PowerShell, Intune, or other scripting tools
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for user onboarding, system reporting, and policy enforcement
Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • AS Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience (1-2 years) providing hands‑on system administration, end‑user support, and IT automation
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Administration (Exchange, Intune, Azure AD, Teams)
  • Proficiency in Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 management
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and process automation
  • Familiarity with Intune, Azure Automation, or Microsoft Graph API is a plus
  • Ability to support and troubleshoot Windows 10/11 environments and related hardware
  • Understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls)

Job Description

The Consultant will work entirely at the direction of the customer to assist in Compute System Administration support while serving as a member of the FNMOC team at the Customer's location. The Consultant will work with the support of the Customer's staff to provide critical information, as well as direction related to task prioritization. The consultant will have TS/SCI clearance, for the duration of the project for coordination and scheduling of project tasks, documentation, and any changes to scope requiring a change order. There is no list of requirements or set of fixed deliverables associated with this engagement.

Responsibilities
  • HPE Performance Cluster Manager (HPCM) and Parallel File Storage System (PFSS) system administration
  • Responsible for the normal day-to-day administrative operation and maintenance of the HPE provided systems
  • Provide on-going performance analysis, performance tuning for Customer's implemented environment and recommendations for future architectures
  • Escalate issues and problems to HPE Support and/or Engineering as necessary
  • Deploying and maintaining high performance communications fabrics
  • Assist with the identification, troubleshooting, and repair of software problems impacting performance of implemented solution
  • Assist with the Installation of Customer's designated and properly licensed software patches and upgrade software/firmware as mutually agreed
  • Assist with the resolution of software trouble tickets and software problems identified by Customer's Systems and users
  • Resources shall intercede on Customer's behalf if any hardware or software malfunctions or misbehaves, and interact with service personnel when repairs are necessary
  • Respond to Customer's designated software trouble tickets and software problems identified by Customer's designated system administrators and users
  • Both parties agree and acknowledge that this SOW does not include the provision of Deliverables
  • Work with Customer on identifying and implementing additional service functionality on Customer's environment
Certifications and skills
  • Certification in Sec+, Linux+
  • Knowledge of PBS Pro, GPFS, basic networking, IDM, firewalls, SSO
  • Knowledge of CPU/GPU clusters
Exclusions
  • Any activities not directly or indirectly related to the support of the HPC cluster, DL380 servers
  • Physical hardware replacement and hardware components are not in the scope of this service

What you’ll be doing:

  • Drive server management for large clusters and data centers deploying GPUs and Grace solution from Nvidia.

  • Work with data center architects and cloud customers to narrow down on requirements for implementation to ensure speed of light product development.

  • Collaborate with other leads to design & build data center health management workflow.

  • Drive reliability and optimization in firmware architecture from a data center view point.

What we need to see:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience working on server firmware (BMC) and platform software development

  • BS, MS, or PhD in EE/CS or related field of education or equivalent experience

  • Hands on experience with data center health management workflow. Proven record of delivering server firmware for large data centers.

  • Strong knowledge of data center management, server architecture and server manageability in data centers and strong and demonstrable skill in C/C++ and Python

  • Experience programming and debugging skills for server platforms.

  • Experience in SCM (e.g. Git, Perforce) and project management tools like Jira.

  • You should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, good work ethics, high sense of team-work, love to produce quality work and commitment to finish your tasks every single day.

  • You are a self-starter who loves to find creative solutions to complicated problems and hands on with coding.

Job Scope/Duties

  • Supports and contributes to the secure and effective provisioning, installation, configuration,

  • Technology specific experience and certifications related to Cloud, Virtualization, Networking, Security, (e .g. Azure, Cisco, Microsoft, Nutanix, VMWare, Zscaler, etc.) is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of technology is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
    including being professional, approachable and maintaining a positive demeanor.
  • Must be able to master new computer technology and to identify, troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of technical computer and software related problems.
