Job Description
Position Overview:
Flender, located in Elgin, IL is seeking a professional, qualified, detail oriented, and energetic Gear Unit Repair Engineer (RE) to support its Industrial Drives market. The RE will play a significant role in end-to-end process of Gear Box repairs to be completed by the technician in our Elgin Factory. They must provide timely technical and operational support to the factory and Flender sales team with the goal of exceeding our customers' needs and ensuring competitiveness against competitors, The RE will work closely with Flender's field sales, order management, and the Elgin plant operations team, as well as with our colleagues at our German Flender headquarters and other foreign team members around the globe. They will have opportunities to communicate directly to customers in the industrial, construction and utility markets to work towards the completion of repair projects.
Duties will also include supporting projects and initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety.
Responsibilities:
Major Duties - Drive competencies in the following areas:
- Develops and completes customer proposals in technical aspects (Proposal Engineer).
- Analyzes customers' technical setup to better judge on aspects of repair and solution integration.
- Performs the review of task plans, drawings and assembly drawings and provides guidance in the phase of product repair and testing.
- Support completion of repair agreements (i.e. planning and estimation of labor categories, rates, material cost, etc.).
- Identifying repair requirements and advise alternatives for gear box assemblies.
- Creating equipment repair Bill of Materials.
- Align directly with Sales team to provide technical support
- Provide assistance in identifying assembly processes or identifying component sub-contractors and coordinating work with them.
- Align directly with vendors to resolve technical inquiries.
- Research, interpret, and maintain, assemblies, drawings, part layouts applying a good, sound knowledge of engineering principles.
- Specify components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Research and analyze customer sales orders, design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of repairs.
- Ensures effective cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders; clarifies issues.
- Root cause analysis to determine if an internal or supplier nonconformance corrective action is required.
- Collaborate with quality department to have quality notifications created in SAP as necessary to document non-conformances related to unit repairs.
- Interact with Purchasing to facilitate the replacement needed materials for the repair.
- Create / update Work Standards as provided by headquarters to maintain correct revision levels.
- Participate in internal, customer, and supplier audits.
- Review Customer's specifications.
- Contributes to the goal setting for specific projects, as required.
- Assist in maintaining documentation compliant with the ISO regulations.
- Support to production and other shop departments in technical related issues.
- Manage priorities to meet business needs.
- Confer with Quality or other personnel to implement operating and other process procedures, assist in resolving process malfunctions, or provide technical information.
- Interact with Production to evaluate the origin of repair shop issues.
- Keeps abreast of industry and legal trends.
Required and Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:
Focus on safe work practices.
Engineering Degree (Mechanical or equivalent)
Strong organizational and skills
1 to 6 years of technical work experience preferably pertaining to Gear Drives
Ability to analyze customer's technical specifications, mechanical drawings, dimensional tolerancing, and data comprehension.
Excellent team player with ability to work independently and perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers.
Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SAP (a plus), TeamCenter (a plus).
2-D and/or 3-D modeling experience a plus
Familiarity with ANSI, ISO, DIN and NEMA standards.
Familiarity with NDT (Non Destructive Testing) Examination
Partial or full fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required
Position Description:
Provide technical repair solutions and documentation for industrial gear units and their sub-components. Provide technical assistance to sales, production, logistical, and quality teams. Will be involved with root cause analysis. Duties will also include participation in audits for both internal and external (Customer, ISO, etc.). Supporting projects and initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety. Communicate results to support internal and external customer needs by using an efficient utilization of resources. Interface with team members to support Sales, Project Manager(s), technical teams, division and product-line management. Promote maximum Customer satisfaction by showcasing Flender's capabilities, potential, equipment reliability, and availability. Ensure the Customer's technical needs are addressed promptly and completely.
Pay Range: $60,000-$65,000 annual base.

Key Responsibilities
