What You'll Do

HELP USA seeks an Employment Specialist whose primary goal is to help clients obtain permanent, unsubsidized employment at our newly opened, Logan Fountain, family shelter. The Employment Specialist works in conjunction with Case Managers to assess clients' educational and employment history, interests, aptitudes, and abilities to develop employment plans for incorporation into the clients' service plans.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing new clients with an overview of HELP USA's employment program philosophy and services at client orientation sessions and/or individual intake meetings.
  • Utilizing HELP USA's Job Readiness Curriculum to facilitate education and employment readiness workshops including resume writing, preparing for the world of work, job interviewing skills, securing childcare, etc.
  • Facilitating workshops on information related to transitional benefits, welfare-to-work benefits, and tax credit changes.
  • Providing educational and vocational counseling for clients, both individually and in groups.
  • Referring clients to and acting as the liaison with HELP USA's employment programs and other employment/vocational and educational training programs and government offices to facilitate job placement.
  • Maintaining a network of government, training, and placement resources and contacts.

Additional Information:

Experience Requirement: At least 1 year of Employment Specialist experience in a similar setting.

Degree Requirement: Bachelor's degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, education, business, liberal arts, etc.) with 1-2 years' experience or Associate degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, education, business, liberal arts, etc.) with 2-3 years' experience.

Familiarity with Criminal Justice population single adults, mental health, substance use or any other related field; Strong communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
