KCDA has an exciting opportunity to work as an Employment Specialist in the Re-Entry Programs Bureau. The Re-Entry Programs Bureau addresses the needs and concerns of individuals transitioning from an incarceration-related environment to the general public who seek assistance with the management of their situations. The bureau utilizes referrals to third parties as its primary method of service delivery. Under direct supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the preferred candidate will be responsible for the following:

Job Responsibilities:

• Providing new clients orientation sessions and/or individual intake meetings.
• Assist clients in attaining their employment-related goals by identifying and referring clients to appropriate services.
• Work collaboratively with case managers, to manage changes in employment goals and/or barriers to securing employment.
• Develop internal Community & Resource and Reentry curriculum to address Clients' employment needs.
• Facilitate a series of regular scheduling of employment-related Workshops.
• Build partnership with staffing/job placement agencies, training, and education providers to support Client's literacy, verbal and writing skills.
• Assist in preparation for interviews, resume building, skills building through advocacy and referrals.
• Build a community of employers that will hire clients directly.
• Schedule interviews with potential employers.
• Manage and track employment placements of all clients.
• Teach Clients how to advocate for themselves when seeking employment in the community.
• Manage and document all interactions with employers and clients.

Additional Information:

Experience Requirement: At least 1 year of Employment Specialist experience in a similar setting.

Degree Requirement: Bachelor's degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, education, business, liberal arts, etc.) with 1-2 years' experience or Associate degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, education, business, liberal arts, etc.) with 2-3 years' experience.

Familiarity with Criminal Justice population single adults, mental health, substance use or any other related field; Strong communication, time management and interpersonal skills.

Under the general direction of the Program Director, the Employment Specialist provides guidance to families in transitional housing with navigating NYC Human Resources Administration systems and assists with the enrollment of process NYC ACCESS. He/she will partner and network with Workforce One Job Centers and other employment centers to assist clients with obtaining employment. Additionally, the Employment Specialist will complete a vocational assessment, and monitor the client's progress toward employment/vocational goals. The incumbent will further provide the client with job referrals and functions collaboratively as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary intensive case management team. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

What You Will Do

• Performs initial vocational assessments for new clients leading to services recommendations included in the Independent Living Plan.
• Performs ongoing comprehensive vocational assessments for clients with recommendations for training/employment goals to be included in the Independent Living Plan.
• Provides ongoing individual/group counseling to clients ultimately employment as part of the permanency plan.
• Records client progress/lack of progress specific to Independent Living Plan vocational goals in charts.
• Functions collaboratively as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary intensive case management team communicating information in case conferences/reviews.
• Deliver informational vocational seminars to clients weekly.

Who You Will Be

• High School Diploma or equivalency and 2+ years of relevant work experience with the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) or other similar city-operated organization.
• Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Position Summary: The Employment Specialist provides employment readiness training coaching and support for disconnected youth ages 18-24 at the Next Generation Center. This position sources and obtains career internship and training opportunities for youth.

Essential Duties:

• Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
• Sourcing and obtaining appropriate employment, internship, and training opportunities for transition youth.
• Developing strong relationships with employer partners and facilitating activities with employers including site visits, recruiting events, career presentations, job shadowing, and other employment-related activities.
• Assisting youth with the preparation of job search documents such as resumes, references, and job applications (online or on paper).
• Providing ongoing post-placement support and troubleshooting for youth after placement in internships/employment.
• Maintaining ongoing communication and positive relationships with employers/internship hosts, including troubleshooting.
• Facilitating employment readiness groups on topics including, but not limited to career exploration, job search strategies, workplace skills, interviewing skills, goal setting, and career advancement.
• Coaching youth individually on job search, interviewing, employment retention, and career management skills.
  Collaborate with the youth's Life Coach and other program staff in the interest of the youth's development of employability skills.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule; within the hours of operation of the Next Generation Center.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 2+ years of experience working in job development, and with difficult-to-engage adolescents.
