Qualifications

• Valid RN licensures as required by state regulations.
• CPR certification (ACLS preferred).
• CRRN certification preferred.
• One year of experience in a rehabilitation hospital setting is preferred.

General Summary
The Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem and LTA) is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient and family care in inpatient and approved surgical and ambulatory care areas. The nurse is expected to competently perform the responsibilities of a registered nurse within the assigned setting, delegating and supervising care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. Care is delivered in collaboration with the clinical team, using critical pathways or multidisciplinary plans of care.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Clinical Practice

• Provides nursing care appropriate to age-specific patient needs.

• Engages patients and families in care planning and interventions.

• Evaluates and documents patient responses to interventions.

• Collaborates effectively with patients, families, and team members.

• Communicates patient progress clearly with the Charge Nurse, staff, and other providers.

• Safely uses equipment, medications, and procedures relevant to assigned areas.

Service/Quality

• Participates in cost-effective strategies to optimize care.

• Respects and incorporates patient/family cultural beliefs into care.

• Demonstrates professionalism, trust, respect, and empathy.

• Supports evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and unit-level research.

• Adheres to standards and participates in compliance activities.

Unit Operations

• Supports Charge Nurse decisions and may perform charge duties as needed.

• Follows policies to ensure patient safety and security.

• Promotes a healthy work environment based on AACN guidelines.

Professional Development

• Acts as preceptor, coach, or mentor to new nurses and students.

• Contributes to skill development of ancillary staff.

• Completes required annual education and competency assessments.

• Maintains ongoing professional growth and clinical competence.

Patient Safety

• Prioritizes patient safety in all job functions.

• Reports adverse events and near misses as required.

• Identifies risks in processes or equipment and communicates them appropriately.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Maryland or Nurse Compact License (NCL).

• BSN preferred.

• Two years of recent (within the past 12 months) clinical hospital nursing experience in a comparable setting.

• Completion of 10 contact hours of continuing education every two years.

• Mother/Baby: BLS, PALS
