Job Summary

We are looking for a Tax Manager to join our Financial Services Practice group. This candidate will consult on complex tax matters and oversee the tax compliance process for financial institutions and financial services companies, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Tasks will include leading a team, advising, researching and identifying tax issues, recommending solutions to customer issues, and engagement management. The Tax Manager will delegate and manage tax assignments and perform administrative duties, as needed. The Tax Manager is responsible for training, supporting, supervising, motivating, developing, and reviewing the work of their engagement team.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and sustaining excellent customer relationships in our markets
  • Performing a technical review of federal and state tax research, work papers, allocations, and tax returns
  • Reviewing and assisting with income tax accounting reporting
  • Being anticipatory and consulting on various tax matters
  • Actively communicating progress of engagements, problems, and resolutions to customers
  • Collaborating cross-functionally within the firm to grow existing business and offer a variety of business solutions to customers and prospects
  • Facilitating economic performance of engagements, including billing and collections
  • Continuously improving specialty area knowledge and professional development
  • Coaching and developing team members to their maximum potential, providing ongoing feedback and development opportunities throughout the year
  • Developing and growing a business network with colleagues, referral relationships, potential customers, and external organizations to attract new business

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Law; Master's degree in Tax/LLM, preferred
  • 5+ years of recent public accounting firm experience
  • Strong experience with corporate tax accounting, ASC 740 preferred
  • EA license or CPA certification, required
  • Leadership and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and networking acumen
  • Ability to manage and grow strong customer relationships
  • Strong experience with corporate tax accounting, ASC 740 preferred

Overview:
Team members will be working in complaints department regarding escalated complaints for anything within the bank. A complaint will come in to this area and it will initially be handled by a separate intake team who will then do the initial discovery and information collection for the complaint to go into a work queue. These team members will then take control of complaints in progress and will see it through until it has reached the qualifications for completion. Typical case load is between 5-10 at a time.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Support internal and external customers with inquiries and complaints regarding financial products and services.
- Seek ways to determine appropriate course of action, conduct investigative steps to identify the issues, and process complex transactions online.
- Perform complex administrative and customer support tasks.
- Review complaints for regulatory and non-regulatory flags and classify risks appropriately in case management system to ensure customer issues are addressed while maintaining compliance with internal company requirements and standards.
- Respond independently to complaints escalated at the highest level.
- Interact with internal and external customers to resolve their issues.
- Interact with the immediate Escalations team to oversee day to day activities of the support Escalations Team
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to de-escalate customers over the phone (expect 5+ high level escalation calls per day)
+ Ability to communicate effectively through writing and emails.
+ Ability to follow Policy + Procedures to execute tasks repetitively.
+ Pipeline and time management - work on different complaints in different statuses while meeting deadlines.

The Accelerated Path to Management Program is a structured, two-phase career track with New York Life:


Phase 1 – Financial Professional (First 12 Months)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree
+ 7+ years of experience working in the financial services or consulting industry related to one or more of the following Financial Services industries: consumer or corporate banking, investment banking or capital markets, investment management, wealth management, trust company, insurance provider, or related service provider
+ Strong relationship management skills, particularly the ability to build constructive and productive working relationships with clients and among Deloitte practitioners
