Job Summary

Provides direct patient care to critically ill adult patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Qualifications and requirements

Applicants should have a current state RN license or a current multistate compact license and possess an associate orbachelor's degree from an accredited nursing school.

Additional requirements include:

  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (or) obtained within 90 days after hire date.
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS Certification (or) obtained within 6 months after hire date.
  • Current American Heart Association PALS Certification (or) obtained within 6 months after hire date.
  • NIHSS Certification obtained within 90 days after hire date.5. Successfully pass an arrhythmia exam within 90 days after hire date.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Language Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Essential Functions

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

Reports to: Department Director

FLSA: Non-exempt

Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Licenses: Current RN license to practice in the state of Kentucky or a current active multistate license.

Certifications:

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 weeks of hire;

AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire and maintain thereafter
