More about our team

Cardiac department has 36 beds. Patient population and diagnosis: Cardiac and CVA patients. Post op day 1-2 CABG, pacemaker patients, Bradycardia, Tachycardia, SVT, AFIB w/RVR or new a fib, acute MIs, PCI patients, Fem/Fem bypass, CEAs and more. We also do step down (IMCU) patients. Nurses are exposed to more critical patients, making it a good bridge to departments such as ED and ICU.

·Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

·Documents patient care given.

·Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

·Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

·Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

We have 12 OR procedure rooms.There are 8, 10 and 12-hour shifts depending on unit and need. Nurses use a self-scheduling process with a call rotation for weekdays and weekends.Weekend call is about 1 weekend every 6 weeks.Weekend and holiday rotations are mapped out by year.Call for a new OR nurse is typically 6 months out but may do some buddy call earlier.

Specialty unit. 34 beds staffed/capped at 21 currently (to grow with census). Typically staffed 3 RNs days, 3 RNs afternoon/evenings, 2 RNs nights. Nurse can gain valuable experience and clinical skills in a specialty unit. Itâ™s very gratifying to see progress and stabilization of the patient you don†always see with inpatient care. ICU has 24 total beds with the ability to care for ICU and IMCU patient populations with care aide support. This team supports open heart, neuro surg, CRRT programs, as the level 2 trauma center for the UP of Michigan, Cath lab and Interventional radiology perform high risk PCI and high-risk procedures. Clinical Educator located on the unit and follows the ECCOs program for orientation. Acuity changes from high ICU census to high IMCU census.

ED provides unscheduled outpatient services to patients whose condition requires immediate care. ED is staffed 24/7/365.ED provides meaningful work with a wide variety of tasks.There are lots of learning opportunities, a teamwork-oriented environment and plenty of excitement. Change is constant and it can often be emotionally taxing and stressful.One to two years of inpatient med/surg or critical care experience is preferred.

How youâ™ll contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

·Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

·Documents patient care given.

·Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

·Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

·Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

·Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

·Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
