Department/Unit Summary
North Alabama Medical Center features four Cardiac Catheterization Labs with one room dedicated to electrophysiology studies. The cath lab provides services for 13 cardiologists, two vascular surgeons, and one interventional radiologist. Our cardiac cath lab is a specialized unit that is designed to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. Cath labs perform dye test on patients' hearts and other vessels in the body. When interventions are needed, blockages are treated with balloons and stents. Cath labs are well known for placing stents in a heart during a heart attack. NAMC features the only interventional cath lab within 75 miles of Florence capable of treating heart attack patients.

Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process
Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on the total assessment and the age of the patient.
Develop plan of care that is individualized for the patient needs reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, the patient, and the family as appropriate.
Evaluates and documents the patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; taking appropriate action based on the assessment of the patient.
Participates and cooperates in the unit-based Quality Improvement process.
Supports, maintains, and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care based on best practice using a holistic approach to care, and by adhering to effectively using resources and personnel.
Practices, develops, and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
