The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of all facility forklift trucks including but not limited to forklifts, flatbeds, pallet jacks and all other company vehicles.
The Sitka plant, known as Sitka Sound Seafoods or SSS, operates 12 months a year, with peak production during the summer months.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
- Interpret manufacturer's technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.
- Troubleshoot forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions.
- Able to diagnose and repair mast and attachment components.
- Good working knowledge of brake systems and tire/wheel changes.
- Ability to work on LP, gas, and diesel systems.
- Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and/or order replacement parts for major repairs.
- Reassemble forklifts and make all necessary adjustments for effective and safe operation.
- Perform safety inspection of forklifts prior to being released back to the work floor.
- Cleaning of equipment and other areas as required.
- Ensure work area and methods used in carrying out job duties meet safety requirements.
- Maintain an organized and neat work area.
- Competent to complete legible service documents and logs for preventative maintenance tasks.
- Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology.

Qualifications:
- Experienced Forklift mechanic in maintenance of various lift trucks or both gas and diesel vehicles.
- Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment for up to 12 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Experience in forklift mechanics in all aspects including electrical.
- Experience and understanding of hydraulic systems and components.
- Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
- Basic knowledge of welding preferred.
- Hold a valid US Driver’s License.

Transportation, Room, and Board
Most employees are locals who live in town. Non-local employees may be able to live in our bunkhouse which is located near the plant. The rooms are assigned based on gender identity, with up to six employees to a room with bunk beds and a shared bathroom. Bed linens are provided, and a communal washer and dryer is available on site. Sitka Sound Seafoods charges employees $15.00 per day to stay in the bunkhouse.
Sitka Sound Seafoods is currently not providing meals to employees.
No Tolerances
North Pacific Seafoods prohibits the use, sale, or possession of ANY drug not medically authorized. We do not allow the use or possession of marijuana, medical or otherwise, at our plants. Employees may be asked to submit to random, post-accident, or for cause testing at any time, and NPSI reserves the right to search all areas of the plant without advance notice to maintain the no tolerance policy.
Payroll Information
Pay periods are biweekly. Our workday is defined as the calendar day, and our work week runs from Monday through Sunday. Employees are paid on the Friday following the end of the biweekly pay period. We encourage employees to sign up for direct deposit, but you may elect to receive paper checks instead.

PURPOSE:
The Culinary Shift Supervisor position is very involved with center store operations and is responsible for assisting the Store Director with supervising store activities and functions for a culinary operation. In this position you would be involved with coaching and training culinary clerks as needed, as well as performing all the required duties of a Culinary Clerk. This position is essential in ensuring that products are handled properly, rotated to ensure freshness, and that date controls are performed. Part of the daily duties is to help control costs by constantly monitoring the coordination of sales promotion activities by preparing or directing clerks preparing merchandise displays. You will assist in the preparation of the store for physical inventory counts, assist or oversee the unloading of trucks, and verify all deliveries against invoices, notes shortages, and overages and report them to management. To be successful in this position you must be organized and focused as this role you will assist with ordering, vendor communications, compliance and sanitation, back room inventory, and controls, and management of workplace and department safety. DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
The essential duties of the Culinary Shift Supervisor consist of, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Assists with the supervision of the department, in the absence of the Store Director or Assistant Store Director by assigning job duties, adjusting schedules for breaks etc.
- Prepares, packages, and rotates product according to departmental guidelines.
- Receives, opens, and unpacks cartons and crates of merchandise, checking invoice against items received.
- Examines products bought for resale or received for storage.
- Cleans department area, including equipment, containers, storage areas, aisles, and display cases; keeping products and supplies well organized.
- Promptly clears floor of all restocking equipment and debris.
- Plan attractive displays. Coordinate displays and specials with visual merchandiser. Ensure that monthly displays are set-up accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked, rotated, fronted, and faced. Set stocking priorities for department staff. Stock items as needed.
- Sets and signs displays of merchandise to attract customers and promote sales.
- Cross merchandise products with other departments in coordination with visual merchandisers and vendors.
- Learn to maintain high profit margin in accordance with the approved pre-set budget, which entails, but is not limited to sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and waste management as set forth by the store management.
- Ensure proper shelf tags and sale signs are on shelves and displays.
- Assure daily price changes are done accurately and are completed by assigned deadlines, always maintaining price integrity.
- Operates price scale with knowledge of current prices. Prices or changes price tags on merchandise referring to price list and in coordination with POS department.
- Takes daily/weekly inventory or examines merchandise on a regular basis, to identify items needing to be reordered or replenished and communicates these concerns with management.
- Assists the Store Director, in obtaining budget for labor, gross profit, and inventory control, as assigned.
- Assists with regularly scheduled inventories, as assigned.
- Creates and maintains positive community relations with customers and vendors. Developing, promoting, and maintaining positive communication channels with manufacturer's representatives, store and corporate personnel, where applicable.
- Monitors market conditions, trends and competitors' activities and notify Store Director of these activities.
- Controls shrink. Maintains and controls inventory levels in the backroom areas and on the sales floor per company directives. Safeguards Company assets.
- Appropriately resolves employee complaints, including complaints of discrimination, harassment, working off the clock and violations of the law, with guidance and support from the Human Resources Department.
- Safely operates and handles all equipment and hazardous material.
- Maintains and safeguards confidentiality concerning employees, store sales, and Company information. Maintains accurate and complete records, consistent with the law and records retention policies.
- Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures. Treats employees consistently, fairly and with courtesy, dignity, and respect.

The work environment is primarily within a meat cutting department, which may include exposure to refrigerated storage areas, walk-in freezers, and meat processing equipment. The role involves frequent exposure to cold environments when working with fresh meats and frozen products. Additionally, the position may involve occasional exposure to high temperatures when using meat processing tools such as band saws or grinders.
The atmosphere may also contain strong, distinct odors related to the meat products, as well as occasional airborne particles from meat trimming and processing. While working, the Meat Cutter Manager will experience varying levels of noise, both from the machinery and customer traffic. The work environment can be fast-paced, requiring attention to detail and safety in both cold and heated zones.
SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION:
Job responsibilities include tasks or duties that could affect the safety or health of the public as tasks include working with un-packaged foods, potentially hazardous food or food-contact surfaces. Must hold and obtain a valid food worker card and a ServSafe Manager Certification issued by the State of Alaska's Division of Environmental Health (DEC) or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
