The RN in the Behavioral Health Unit collaborates with the medical staff and other members of the health care team to provide quality patient care. Performs all activities in accordance with approved policies and guides. Supervises and delegates appropriate duties to ancillary personnel.
Essential Functions:
- Completes initial and ongoing assessments. Assessments include physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age appropriate, cultural and discharge planning needs.
- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Discusses assessment parameters and scoring for CIWA. Defines treatment guidelines based on assessment findings/scores for CIWA.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
- Employee supervises others.
- Assists with orientation and training of others as directed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education
- Associate's degree in nursing required
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
Required Skills
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications & Licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Handle with care within 4 months of hire
- Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).
Minimum Work Experience
- 1-3 years, Recent acute care experience within past 3 years preferred.

To render professional nursing care to a group of assigned patients within the hospital. Collaborates with the medical staff and other members of the health care team to provide quality patient care. Performs all activities in accordance with approved policies and guides. Supervises and delegates appropriate duties to ancillary personnel.
Essential Functions:
- Triage training, recognition of critical presentation i.e. stroke, chest pain. Use of green/red bags.
- Medication reconciliation training and understanding.
- IV starts and blood collection.
- Patient/family care needs and/or problems are promptly identified and addressed. Patients are regularly assessed and reassessed. Patient responses to nursing and MD interventions and treatments are evaluated and documented in the ongoing assessment data.
- Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, initiates discharge planning to meet the discharge care needs of each individual patient.
- Provides patient and family education in regard to the hospitalization/admission, medications, and/or in preparation for discharge. Upon discharge, provides appropriate discharge instructions to include follow-up and referral needs.
- Uses safe medication practices (Read Back, double checks) and documents outcomes such as patient response to new medication, side effects and adverse reactions. Completes medication reconciliation upon admission, transfer and discharge.
- Assists with orientation and training of others as directed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
Required Skills:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:

**Position Overview:**
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Acute Care Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to providing high-quality patient care. Our unit caters to a diverse patient population, ranging from medical/surgical to ICU levels of care.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in an acute care setting.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, pharmacists, and case managers, to discuss patient treatments and discharge needs.
- Monitor patient vitals and manage treatments according to care plans and protocols.
- Perform procedures such as IV starts, central venous lines, arterial lines, Foley catheter insertions, EKG monitoring, and wound care.
- Ensure that all nursing documentation is completed accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, Cerner.
**Patient Ratios:**
- ICU/SD: 2-4:1
- Med-Surg: 5-6:1
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Current RN license and required certifications, including BLS and ACLS (to be completed before the end of orientation).
- Previous experience in ICU/Stepdown settings or with a minimum of one year in medical/surgical nursing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.

**Additional Details:**
- Weekend rotation with on-call obligations.
- Participation in team-based care approach, attending daily interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient needs.
