About the Mobile Network Engineering on iOS position
You will build the first prototype of our mobile passive metering tool. Your time will be split:
- 10% sharing your ideas and expertise within your team to help plan and prepare your product initiatives
- 70% building out a passive metering tool that utilizes an on-device mobile VPN
- 10% writing tests, doing code reviews, and continuously improving our overall code quality
- 10% researching and improving your general software development skills
- work with our mobile, data, and front-end engineers to build a design and specification for our mobile metering application
- build the first version of our mobile passive metering tool allowing us to passively collect network traffic data from our opt-in research panelists
- iteratively improve application security and performance to ensure a high quality end-user experience
- deploy the mobile metering application to the TestFlight and the Apple Store so our panelists can begin using it
We expect expert-level understanding of:
- Swift or Objective-C, the iOS SDK, and publishing apps in the iOS App Store
- Networking at all layers of the protocol stack, and the iOS internals which power them,
- Specifically, the iOS Network Extension Framework and Packet Tunnels
- TCP/UDP, HTTPS networking, SSL/TLS, VPNs, and forward proxies
- Man-in-the-middle attacks and associated tools like mitmproxy
- Certificate-pinning, how it works, and how to detect it
- a scripting language, like Python or Ruby
- support tools like Git, CI/CD, Bash, SSH, Charles, Wireshark, and Chrome DevTools
- Experience in Java or Kotlin, the Android SDK, and publishing apps in the Google Play Store
- Experience working with Docker containers or other virtualized environments, and with AWS
- Experience with asynchronous event-driven network application frameworks like netty, libuv, libdispatch, or SwiftNIO
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Exposure to software like NGINX and Apache Traffic Server (ATS)
- Ability to explain all of the different layers of the network stack

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Key job responsibilities
As the Senior Manager of HW Wireless HW Development and Test, you will help to build and supervise a team of experts in antenna prototyping and test for both R&D and production phases.
In this role, you will be overseeing the following:
- Develop over the air test infrastructure including anechoic chambers and robotic nearfield scanners
- Develop prototyping capability including equipment, SW tools, rework stations, inspection cameras
- Build and test prototypes in support of R&D efforts
- Conduct test and verification on HW at different stages of the product cycle, generate test reports and provide analysis on the results in support of different development and production activities
- Develop post processing algorithms and tools in support of antenna, RF and electrical test
- Develop the technology solutions, define and execute products and test infrastructure for upcoming generations of Kuiper's wireless technology
- Develop planning and resource management systems in support of HW test at scale
This is a highly visible role with several internal customers, a sizeable body of full time and/or contingent staff, a very large facility that hosts highly advanced test systems.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

About the team

Basic Qualifications
· MS degree in electrical engineering, with coursework and/or research work on antennas or RF/Microwave, or equivalent experience
· 10+ years of experience in development and/or research experience in antenna, RF systems, or DSP development
· 5+ years of experience in technical and/or team leadership
· 5+ years of experience in antenna/RF testing
· 2+ years of leading software development in support of test or calibration
Preferred Qualifications
· PhD in EE, ME or CS with some course or research work in antennas or RF
· Experience in setting up antenna or RF lab
· Experience in development in cross-disciplinary environment
· Deep understanding of antenna test systems and post-processing algorithms
· Experience in development of phased arrays or satellite payloads in general
· Experience project/program management
