**Facility Maintenance Mechanic**
**Summary:**
We are seeking a skilled **Facility Maintenance Mechanic in San Jose, CA** to perform daily maintenance, repairs, and inspections across our facility. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, and experienced with pumps, forklifts, electrical systems, and general facility upkeep.
**Pay:** $24-$31 per hour depending on experience
**Shift:** Monday - Friday, with overtime as needed on weekdays and weekends
**Responsibilities:**
+ Complete daily maintenance tasks such as equipment inspections, readings, pump rebuilds, repairs, and installation/removal of pumps
+ Maintain and repair loading docks
+ Perform welding, cutting, and torching tasks as needed
+ Repair and maintain floor coating
+ Troubleshoot electrical systems
+ Replace valves and expansion joints
+ Conduct daily equipment inspections and preventive maintenance
+ Perform other maintenance duties as assigned
**Qualifications:**
+ Experience with air and electric pump repair and replacement
+ Welding, cutting, and torching experience is a plus

+ Proficient in verbal and written communication in both individual and group settings

OnScent is seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance and Repair Technician to join our Operations team at our Norwood NJ fragrance manufacturing center. In this hands-on role, you will help ensure the smooth operation of the facility and equipment by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and supporting facility improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for someone who is proactive, can take initiative, and is comfortable completing tasks with minimal supervision when needed. You should have a strong sense of ownership over your work, be capable of prioritizing responsibilities, and take pride in getting the job done right and on time.

As OnScent continues to grow, this technician will also assist in shaping and building out the maintenance program and department-bringing ideas, structure, and best practices to support a more robust and scalable operation.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment such as mixers, pumps, compressors, and HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues independently or with limited guidance.
  • Take initiative in identifying issues and addressing them before they cause downtime.

Equipment & Facility Upkeep

  • Maintain and service batching systems, compounding equipment, filling lines, and lab support tools.
  • Support calibration and routine performance testing of facility systems.
  • Conduct general facility repairs such as lighting, door adjustments, minor plumbing, and painting.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all OSHA, GMP, and OnScent safety protocols when carrying out maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed using the company's CMMS.

Continuous Improvement & Growth Support

  • Recommend and implement improvements to equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Participate in building and organizing a scalable maintenance program as the company expands.
  • Assist with planning and executing facility upgrades, installations, and equipment improvement projects.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with production, quality, and EHS teams to maintain a safe and efficient facility.
  • Provide maintenance support during audits, inspections, and emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade school certification is a plus.
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (fragrance, chemical, food, or pharmaceutical industries preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively resolve maintenance issues.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic understanding of PLCs, instrumentation, and automated systems.
  • Strong communication skills, Spanish helpful, but not necessary.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments; forklift experience is a plus.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment with strong fragrance odors present.
  • Must be willing to be on-call for emergency repairs and flexible with shift scheduling when required.

Repair or replace items around the hotel and refurbish items in guest rooms. By keeping on top of these tasks, you'll keep our hotels looking great and working well.
Organize supplies and make sure equipment is ready for the next day.
Live up to high safety standards - follow guidelines and tell your supervisor about any incidents, dangerous conditions, or unsafe equipment.
Take responsibility for the safety and cleanliness of areas inside and outside the hotel, like the car park and pool.
Always keep an eye out for improvements - follow the preventative maintenance calendar and always keep everything working and efficient.
Be a friendly face and helping hand to our guests.
Keep your supervisor or duty manager in the loop and tell them about any low running supplies.
Look smart and approachable in your uniform.
Be ready to take on extra duties as and when the team needs you.
What We Need from You -
In the hotel industry we cater for our guest needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Even though a shift will be assigned, in occasions we may require working varying shifts across a 7-day period, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
Experience - you'll have at least one year of maintenance or repair work under your belt.
A high school diploma or related vocational training.
You'll be familiar with Microsoft Office, a building management program and/or any other reporting tools like HotSos, Opera, Lutron, Bartech, or Inncom.
On top of building equipment and hand tools, you'll have a working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrics, and preventative maintenance procedures.
CPO certification - if the hotel has a pool, a Certified Pool Operator license would be ideal.
Fitness - you'll be on your feet most of the day and will need to bend and kneel a lot.
Compliance - as well as meeting local laws on food handling and serving alcohol, you'll be above the minimum age required and fluent in the local language.
Great communication skills, you'll be warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to.
