Academic Advising is seeking an academic advisor who will be responsible for providing quality academic advising services to current undergraduate students. The Academic Advisor is responsible for staying current on policies and procedures as they relate to academic advising and building relationships with colleges and academic departments. The Academic Advisor will work collaboratively within Academic Advising, making appropriate student referrals within the Center and to other resources across campus.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide developmental academic advising for undergraduate students who are advised through the Academic Advising Center
• Serve as a resource to students and faculty to interpret academic policies and procedures, academic objectives, major options, and registration procedures
• Teach students the skills to self-navigate to degree completion utilizing campus information, student portal, Degree Works, university bulletin, college/department policies and procedures, and online resources
• Utilize technology such as SupportNET, Degree Works, and Banner to monitor student academic progress, making appropriate referrals to campus resources, follow up with tracking items, and maintain accurate records on advisees and confidential student services records
• Monitor student academic progress, including follow-up with students based on midterm grades and academic probation status, making appropriate referrals to student support units
• Onboard new students by coordinating their enrollment at freshman orientation, transfer orientation, and international student orientation
• Assist with training of graduate assistants and student workers
• Membership on Academic Advising Council, Professional Advisor Team, College Councils, and other committees that relate to academic advising and student success

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Knowledge of academic advising, counseling, or a closely related area through work experience or an educational setting
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Experience working as part of a team in a collaborative work environment
• Evidence of the ability to exercise sound judgment
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
• Strong organizational and time management skills

The Academic Advisor or Academic Advisor Senior will advise for the Biology programs within the College of Arts and Sciences. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

The position will be filled at either an Academic Advisor or Academic Advisor Senior level based upon qualifications and assigned duties:

• For Academic Advisor - Bachelor's degree is required.
• For Academic Advisor Senior - Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience is required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Educational background in the life sciences or experience or educational background in education or counseling. Understanding of developmental academic advising processes. 
• Experience with the software programs DegreeWorks, Banner, and/or Aggie Handshake. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Knowledge of student development and the ability to serve and assist the students in developing effective academic plans and career and life goals in order to promote student retention and academic success. 
• Knowledge of student advising and graduation requirements for academic degrees, and the ability to anticipate department and/or student needs. 
• Ability to creatively and independently problem-solve by prioritizing and multitasking while under pressure.

The subspecialty anatomic pathology services include all organ systems, and our faculty has rich interactions and close connections with health care teams in many other clinical departments and divisions. Key Job Responsibilities:

• Proactively engages students as needed

• Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources

• Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college

• Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers

• Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies

• Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum

Position Summary

The Academic Advisor for the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. Program plays a vital role in ensuring student success through comprehensive academic advising, effective policy implementation, and robust orientation and transition support. The advisor serves as a central resource to doctoral students, guiding them through curriculum planning, academic progression, institutional policies, and program expectations. This position supports a large and diverse student body within a rigorous, APA-accredited doctoral program.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Advising and Planning

• Provide individual academic advising to Psy.D. students throughout all phases of the program, from matriculation to graduation.
• Assist students with course selection, registration, and developing long-term academic plans that align with degree requirements.
• Monitor academic performance and progress; proactively identify and support students experiencing academic difficulty.
• Collaborate with faculty advisors and program leadership to ensure students receive coordinated and consistent support.

Policy Advising and Implementation

• Serve as a knowledgeable resource for students and faculty on institutional, departmental, and accreditation-related policies.
• Interpret and communicate policies related to academic standing, degree requirements, course waivers, transfer credits, and leaves of absence.
• Assist with policy enforcement and documentation, including academic warnings, probation, and progression reviews.

Orientation and Transition Support

• Support orientation programs for incoming students, focusing on academic expectations, program structure, and available resources.
• Develop and facilitate programming and communications to ease the transition into doctoral-level study.
• Serve as a key contact for new students and assist with their integration into the academic and professional culture of the program.

Administrative and Recordkeeping Duties

• Maintain accurate and confidential advising records using institutional systems and tools.
• Generate reports to track student progress, identify advising trends, and inform program improvements.
• Participate in accreditation-related data collection and documentation as needed.

Collaboration and Communication

• Partner with faculty, staff, and training directors to ensure consistent academic messaging and support across the program.
• Communicate important deadlines, policy changes, and academic milestones to students in a timely and effective manner.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in psychology, counseling, higher education, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in academic advising or student services, preferably at the graduate or professional level.
• Strong knowledge of academic advising practices, student development theory, and higher education policy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience advising doctoral students in a mental health or clinical training program.
• Familiarity with APA accreditation standards and clinical psychology curricula.
• Doctorate in psychology, education, or a related field.
